Hello Plex users!
Because there is no official packages of Plex Media Player for Linux desktop I have decided to create one.
Instead of building multiple packages for all different packaging systems (DEB, RPM, Snap, Flatpack) and even different distribution releases (separate DEB for Ubuntu Trusty, separate DEB for Ubuntu Xenial,...) I wanted to make things as simple as possible for us Linux users. So I've used an AppImage format for this.
AppImage is universal package format that runs on any modern Linux distribution. No need to install anything (all dependencies are in the image). No root permissions needed. Just download the file and run it like on Windows or macOS.

Packages will run on any Linux that has glibc 2.23 (not older than 2016). Tested it on Ubuntu 16.04, Ubuntu 16.10, Fedora 25, openSUSE 42.2. I am working on making it support older distributions.
On the page you will find official release builds and daily builds. Release builds are for everyone. Daily builds are for anyone who wants to check latest bleeding edge changes in the application.

To automate build process I've created a separate GitHub repository https://github.com/knapsu/plex-media-player-appimage that contains all scripts and files used to make Continuous Delivery pipeline.
Travis CI is used for building the actual packages which then are uploaded to my website.
I used Docker to create common build environment (makes builds reproducible) and to speedup Travis builds as there is no need to install development tools and libraries on the build machine.
I hope that someone will find my work useful.

Will I run into any issues if I upgrade my PMS server to the latest version and PlexConnect to the latest commits? If ATV2 still works with the latest versions of both I am ready to pull the trigger on upgrading. Thanks!

I try to install to file manually in the AppCenter. After a long waiting time (I think about 5 min) I get the error message (original in german) "Installation failed, check system protocols for full details". But the system protocols contains no entry.
I cannot install an update anymore. Previously, update installations had worked.

I can select a media version to play when playing locally on the Android app. However, if I'm using the app for remote control (either Chromecast or Plex Media Player), my selection is ignored. Chromecast/PMP will play an arbitrary version instead.
Steps to reproduce:
* Open the Android Plex app
* Click the Chromecast/remote-control icon, and choose a Chromecast or Plex Media Player target
* Navigate to a movie/episode which has multiple versions
* Click the "..." menu
* Click "Play Version"
* Click any version
Expected results: Playback starts on the target device with the selected version of the media
Actual results: Playback starts on the target device with some arbitrary version of the media, often not the one I selected
I tried the above using PMP on Windows 10, and both Chromecast and Chromecast Ultra.
This seems to occur with any PMS library item with multiple versions. The filenames can be similar or very different; the bitrates/resolutions can be the same or different; as long as they are under the same library item. It is easiest to see this problem by using two totally different movies, renamed like "The Matrix (a).mkv" and "The Matrix (b).mkv". (When the versions were visually similar, I verified which version is getting played using ps or lsof on the server running PMS, to see which file PMS is reading).
"Play version" works correctly when playing back locally on Android (i.e., I follow all the repro steps above, but don't choose a remote-control target).
"Play version" works correctly within PMP, when controlled with the Android "open remote" (Click the Chromecast/remote-control icon; select a PMP target; click the Chromecast/remote-control icon again; click "Open Remote"; use the directional remote to navigate within PMP to a media item with multiple versions; click the "Play..." button; select any version)
"Play version" works correctly with Chromecast when remote controlled by Plex Web.
Based on the above I'm guessing this is a bug in the Android app, not in PMS / PMP / Chromecast.

I am struggling to find info on a topic that I think should be clearly stated in "System Requirements" or somewhere obvious. That is, how can I estimate the disk storage requirements for a PLEX system. I'm configuring a server on which to run PLEX and I need a good estimate of how much disk space will be required. I can estimate number and resolution of movies, music and photos, but I cannot find an algorithm that helps me properly size a system. Surely this exists somewhere. Can someone show me where?

I have problems with official Plex app (Plex for LG 3.13.1) on LG WebOS 3.5 (WebOS 03.60.09 model LG 43UJ7507).
I'm using server: Version 1.9.4.4325
Problem 1. No matter what file i play, if it have subtitles, doesn't matter what format, external or internal, Plex is always transcoding, if i disable the subtitles, then it play directly with no problems and no transcoding.
Problem 2. Cannot play HDR 4k mkv videos without transcoding, it doesn't matter if it is with or without subtitles, always transcoding.
Note: I have bought the unofficial Plex app called "Xplay" for this TV, and in this app i don't have any of the above problems, it plays 4k HDR directly (with HDR on), and only transcode movies if they are with internal subtitles, never on external.
It there any way to fix the official Plex app your you guys have to do this?
x264 hardware transcoding with Plex seems to work fine, however x265 doesn't. Anyone knows the current status of x265 transcoding & Plex? Videostation transcodes x265 but the result is pretty terrible in terms of quality..
I have not expanded RAM at the moment, if that might disable x265 transcoding(?)

I can't steam ALAC (Apple Lossless) files via DLNA from Plex. I have a pair of Yamaha N-XN500 active speakers that support ALAC (in fact, I'm using a different DLNA client to stream ALAC files right now).
Would be grateful to anyone that can write me a profile so I can stream Apple Lossless files. Will throw in a small reward of $5 (not much I know but better than nothing!).

Hasta ahí todo bien, pero cuando intento añadir las bibliotecas en plex, me dice "Tus cambios no pudieron ser salvados", y no me deja crear bibliotecas. No se exactamente si será por la estructura de carpetas o por algún problema del nas, pero no he encontrado forma de hacerlo. ¿Alguien ha tenido el mismo problema? Gracias.
I have been running into a challenge with the last few Plex releases. I cannot get the Live TV and DVR functionality to work.
I have a HDHomeRun Prime (which works great with other software) and Plex (the latest Plex Pass release) running on a QNAP TS-453A.
When I go into the settings and turn on the Plex DVR, Plex sees my HDHomeRun prime, I select it, it finds the channel guide for my area, I put in my zip code, it sees my cable provider. Then, I hit the "next" button, and it just spins and spins. After 15 minutes or so, it times out and comes back to the Plex DVR setup on the main screen.
All functions of Plex work except these two.
Any guidance you guys can offer?
I am not sure what I am doing wrong, but none of my channels will play any video through my rasplex. Maybe it is just a simple change in settings to direct play, and enabling transcoding, I am not sure what I am doing wrong, but could someone give me a good setup for configuring rasplex so the channels themselves will work. All channels work fine in a browser. The one I have been using the most is the Lifetime channel, since this is a big one for my wife. If anyone has insight on how to make this work I would greatly appreciate it.

So apparently the RPi3 has serious issues with the wifi being spotty if power save mode is enabled on the card. In raspbian there is a way to disable it if you use the iwconfig command, however rasplex does not offer this command.
Any suggestions on how I can disable wifi power save mode?

I have unlock the app on my phone (Android) where it says that it will unlock all my devices.
The problema is that my Tablet is Windows and ask me to unlock the app again.
I have install it from Microsoft store.
Do I have to unlock the app and pay again for the Tablet. Once again for my laptop ?
