I am running the current beta, but have found on the Apple TV 4k when I go to pause a show the play button won't work but if I try the track pad it works fine. I have found the current beta release went back to it not working last version it was fine.
When you hit the track pad to pause and unpause than try the play button it oddly works , seems the first initial time trying that button won't work. Seems to only happen when using Plex.
Anyone else experiencing this?
I've been running Plex on Ubuntu for a few years now with no real issues, but this past weekend I finally upgraded my server to 17.04. After the upgrade there have been a few oddities such as some shows simply won't play. These shows played fine before the upgrade and I can still play them in VLC so the files are fine. I have seen both avi and mkv files fail while other avi and mkv's play just fine. The player on my Samsung TV gets an error "There seems to be a problem. Unable to connect to the content server" and the PC player just spins forever. I'm on 1.9.4.4325.
All content is being pulled from a pair of NAS appliances I have. The only common thread I can see is that it seems that all episodes of a given show will fail, or they all will work. All episodes of Show 1 fail to play (despite the fact that I watched several episodes before the upgrade) but all episodes of show 2 play as expected. Shows 1 & 2 are stored in the same folder structure.
Any thoughts? I'm not really sure where to go from here. Thank you.
I was looking for a way to command plex to empty the trash on one section. I have it scanning the section but I would like it to remove missing episodes as well. Has anyone been able to script this in windows?

I've got an issue with a TV show called ER.
It's named and the directory structure is the same as all other shows.
Series Name
-Season 1
-S01E01 -
So for ER it's
ER\Season 1\S01E01 - 24 Hours
ER\Season 1\S01E02 - Day One.
However the issue being:
If I use the IMDB agent, it names the eps incorrectly and thinks that EP02 is the second part of 01 (Which it isn't. 01 is a single ep twice the length) so I only get 24 eps for that season not the 25 that is there. - So that's ignoring IMDB data which is correct and ignoring local data.
If I use the TVDB agent, I get the correct names but no images - This is a global issue for my plex server so I've swapped to using the IMDB for TV shows as their service is more reliable except for this one show.
Any ideas?
I've reset the cache on the plugins.
Validated the IMDB and TVDB data (Both are correct)

Hi there,
I've always used the Plex app through my Samsung TV, but recently i cannot seem to get anything to play.
It loads my library fine, shows all my TV shows and movies.
When I click on a program to watch, it begins to load with the specific show's wallpaper, then I get the circular dots rotating round and round, and it never ends. It just keeps loading and loading and loading.
I've been able to use the Plex app through my PS4, however I'd prefer to keep using my TV directly.
Any ideas? Please help!
OK, so since the Direct Play setting has been removed (somehow) from the Settings section in Plex on the Shield, I can no longer play my homevideo content in 4k (made in iMovie).
Plex now tries to transcode the content, but the transcoder seems to crash or samething cause after pressing play the spinner will load forever and eventually say the content can't be played. Also trying to let Plex 'Create optimized version' won't work: the conversion will get stuck at 1%.
I used to work around this by enabling the Direct Play option in Settings, but that is GONE (sigh...).
I have read somewhere that creating a custom profile xml file for the Shield would help, and enabling/forcing the directplay option in there, but if I am correct running PMS on a Shield won't let us anywhere near those files when the Shield is not rooted.
In short... I am stuck with many, many homevideos in 4k, which ONLY playback fine in a webbrowser with Plex, but they won't play on iOS, chromecast or the Shield player itself. Any fix?

I recently added the season premiere of Mr Robot season 3. It is currently My TV shows folder/Mr. Robot/Season 03/ S03e01.mkv. For some reason Plex scanner can't seem to pick it up. It's as if Plex didn"t detect anything within that folder.
Searching through the forums I see that last year or rather last season some people ran into the same problem. I tried a few things that seemed to have worked for them but it didn't prove successful.I tried to use the exact Plex naming scheme, to clean the bundles, to purge the tvdb plugin, to remove the files temporarily while I redownloaded the entire metadata for the library... But Plex can't seem to see these files.
Funnily enough if I change them to another name (say, the walking dead) they are then picked up although, of course, incorrectly matched.
If anyone has a way out of this I'd be glad to try it! Thanks in advance.

I have a question regarding Plex Cloud, and normal Plex app. I seem to have issues while transcoding, or when subtitles are added to my stream. This happens to both Plex Cloud & the normal Plex Server App.
However, the problems do not occur when I choose to use original quality and deselect any subtitles.
Where does this issue come from, and how to solve it?

There has been a thread running for 4 years on the issue below and the “bug” has never been addressed, despite many requests and many software upgrades over the period. So I am starting this new thread with a description of the problem as seen on the current version (6.4.1.1644) of Plex for Android .
Briefly, the problem concerns getting a List View of the contents of a particular Folder.
I will describe it clearly, in detail, below.
For a Library pointing to a hierarchical system of Folders, SubFolders and Files, when a Library is selected on the Player, All the files in that Library are displayed in alphabetical order, irrespective of which Folder or Subfolder they are in. There is a Grid/List Menu ( box-of-dots, top middle ) to select a Grid or List View of these files.
Many people dislike Grid View, since the Filename is severely truncated, and find List View much more useful.
There may be times when seeing All the files is useful but usually, navigating down to the required Folder/Subfolder is better to display just the files therein.
This can be achieved from the Type Menu ( WiFi-type-icon, top right hand) by selecting Folders, rather than Movies. However, the Grid/List Menu then disappears, the view defaults to Grid View and there is no means of restoring List View.
Overall a very useful program but this "bug" is a real downer. Could the problem , PLEASE, PLEASE be addressed in the next version.
The Server has similar functionality but there is no problem there and List View is retained after navigating down the Folder hierarchy.
I refer to this as a "bug", since I think it very unlikely that this behavior was intended but have tagged it Feature Request just in case I am wrong

There's a bunch of bugs in Plex for Shield (uncorrected in the latest version) that mean that Plex DVR on the Shield is currently UNUSABLE in the UK.

I have a Minix Neo U1 with Android 5.1.1 and Plex 6.6.0.2384 and PMS 1.9.5.4339 and a DTS,AC3,.... capable Receiver
I always get the error, that I lost connection to the server.
No matter what i change in the settings (Passthrough enable, disable) I can't play a movie with DTS or AC3 ONLY mp3 works
Hallo, ich benutze den Plex Server auf einen Intel Qnap NAS. Das Hardware Transcodieren funktioniert soweit. Leider funktioniert das nicht, wenn ich Untertitel eingeschaltet habe. Zwar steht da "Transcodieren von H264 (hw) nach H264 (hw)". Aber er schafft das nur mit ca 0,6 facher Geschwindigkeit (in PlexPy nachgeschaut). Ohne Untertitel macht er 8 fache. Weiß einer einen Rat oder eine Lösung?

I am complete out of commission at the moment and desperately need some assistance.
Bear with me as this is as confusing to me as it will be to attempt to explain it but, yesterday I accidentally (some how) created a new server from the same machine with the same name. Today when getting logged in with my pin, there was two different servers listed as X99Beast. One was the original with all my libraries while the other was empty. Obviously this was unnecessary and unintentional, not to mention a pain as when connecting through the primary host computer or remotely with another device, it was defaulting to the new, unwanted server. So, I headed in to it's settings -> General and hit delete account assuming that it would simply remove that server instance from my list. - Evidently that's not what happened and now I'm totally screwed.
When attempting to login to https://app.plex.tv/ - It's no longer automatic and I have the options of Google, Facebook or E-Mail. Google and Facebook both return with an error stating that "Email has already been taken". When I attempt to login with the E-Mail address option associated with the account that I have had in place (with a paid life time subscription) for quite some time now, I enter the credentials and it states that the email or password are incorrect. Now, I know positively that this is incorrect however I headed over to the forgot email link, entered the email address (wesvivian@gmail.com) however nothing ever gets delivered. I've successfully received other email since that point in time so the issue is not receiving.
So, I can't login, I can't reset the password and your system is telling me that my email address is already taken.
How I've managed to stay logged in to this forum page with my account is baffling me as well but, I'll take it.
Please assist as quickly as you are able. Much appreciated.

I've noticed that some content takes a very long time before it starts playing, showing the spinner for a long, then eventually playing.
Weird thing is when it eventually starts playing the player says directplay, but when I look in the logs, it says transcoded.
Player is NVidia Shield, server is Windows, and it happens with various media, have yet to discover a pattern.
I have no problem re-encoding my media for directplay, but I need to know what attributes to look for in the media.
Any ideas?

I made this for myself a while ago, maybe it is of interest for others.
Combined Library Metadata Agent (Colima) in combination with Absolute Series Scanner (ASS) allows you to have movies and tv shows within the same library, something that Plex sadly not supports out of the box. Common scenarios to use this agent for are documentaries, western and Japanese animation libraries.
Colima will look for a unique identificator to distinguish movies from tv shows. The agent pulls data from TheMovieDB for all movies it can find this way. TV Shows are entirely ignored by Colima itself and instead are passed as fallback to the native Plex TVDB agent.
The code is mostly justed based on the Plex implementation of TheMovieDb on github.com.

As already pointed out, Plex does not natively support movies within a tv show library. Putting movies into the tv show library means they will get seasons, some of their data (writers and directors) are shown differently from native movie libraries. Also, all movies within a tv show library are counted as tv shows for obvious reasons.
A Plex server restart might be required for the Agent to appear.
Create a TV Show library in the language of your choice
Movies and TV Shows have to be in separate folders. Ensure that movies are within a folder with a unique name that will not appear in a movie/show title.
Use Absolute Series Scanner (ASS) to create the entries within Plex. Add the folder name to the movie identificator field (only a single value is allowed).
