All local videos are transcoding. Please help me find the cause

Starting maybe 1-2 weeks ago, my PMS has started transcoding all video playback to my Roku Stick/Win10 app/Chromebook. This is starting to cause issues with other remote devices that want to watch a video as well(my "server" will be rebuilt this year to handle more streams). I can't seem to figure out what is causing that. Here is some info

OS: Win7
PMS: Latest version(issue started before I updated)
Router: Asus/Google OnHub. PMS has static IP and router DNS is set to 8.8.8.8
Video files were Direct Streaming/Playing perfectly 1-2 weeks ago.
Tried optimizing a video to make sure all codecs were compatible. Still transcodes.
Example of the playback settings in the Roku Stick

  • Playback: Transcode
  • Format: MKV
  • Video: copy(h264)
  • Audio: convert(AAC Stereo) <-I feel this is the reason for the transcode.
  • Speed: 7.8

I'm not quite sure where to go from here. Can anyone help me find the cause? What other info do you need from me?

EDIT:I've test on the following:

  • Roku Stick
  • Chromebook browser
  • Chromebook app
  • Win10 app(located on the PMS server)
  • Chrome browser on PMS system. Chrome v56. Accessed PMS via http://localhost:32400

Playback freezes on both Samsung and Windows 10 player

I installed my Plex server on my Synology NAS. I am running version 1.13.0.5023. Everything was working fine on my Samsung TV and then in the middle of watching a movie the movie froze and then I get a player_error_connection_failed. Then everything gets slow and flakey and no movies can be watched. I keep getting the same connection_failed error. I tried my plex player on my windows 10 PC and the video just hangs and locks up the player. If I restart the NAS everything works fine for a while and then it all locks up again.

I can access and play the movies through Potplayer on my PC without issues.

Any advise? Thanks!

Database Corruption

Hello,
i think i have problems with database corruption on my linum mint 17.

My problem is that PMS every hour becomes unvailable and i have to reboot.
These is my terminal commands and responds

easyaudioencoder.exe hung in infinite loop

When watching a video with transcoding. Once I stop the video the easyaudioencoder process gets stuck in a notifychangedirectory call, and pegs one core of the server. I can not start another transcode until I manually terminate the process. The processmonitor output is as follows.

Problems with adding tutorial sequenced video files to a library..?

Hello to the Plex community,
Why is it when I try to add a tutorial video file collection in an 'other videos' library via the Plex Web browser interface, why it doesn't pick up on the sequence of files, and list the folders properly, so that I can watch it from start to finish via plex?
Any help would be much appreciated, thanks :)

Will Roku UI be updated to resemble most recent Fire TV / Android UI?

Unlike most people (judging from forum posts), I much prefer the revamped Plex UI on my Fire TV. Are there similar plans for Roku?

Hello,

The newest Chromecast update doesn't work with Plex. I can't stream anything from Plex at all. I tried streaming directly to another Television and Apple TV and it works perfectly, so it must be Chromecast. I've found numerous people claiming the same issue on Reddit. Anyone else having the same issue and are there any workarounds that anyone knows of?

Samsung TV - Player error Connection failed

I have a Samsung TV UE55MU8009.
Plex is running on a Qnap NASTS251
1.12.3.4973-215c28d86

Playback on my Samsung TV is not possible. The Video won‘t load and shows up as a:
PLAYER_ERROR_CONNECTION_FAILED

The Plex App works fine and is connected proper. Only Video Playback causes this error there are no other connection errors.
Every device is using a wired connection except my iphone.

When I use the Media App from Samsung TV I can browse to the same Video File and it plays without a Problem.
Same file will play on the iphone or browser using the plex app or web app.

I did not log the problem yet but could do this if helpful.


Music Playback Stopping

Nexus 6P
Android 7.0
Client 4.31.2.310 (7deaa753)

When listen to music on my phone, playback occasionally gets stuck. The only way to fix this is to skip forward/back a song. Seeking does not fix the issue. I have reproduced this issue consistently both while stream and playing locally synced content. Please advise on a fix for this bug.

Can't add Podcast

Hi,
In trying the new podcast beta I would like to add the following podcast feed by url:
http://criticalrolepodcast.geekandsundry.com/feed/

However when attempting this I get the following error:
"Something went wrong. Make sure the URL is correct and try again."

Please let me know if I can help by providing any additional information.

All 4K HEVC content is being transcoded. Why?

Hi,

With the new HDR-capable release, I was very excited about the possibility of ditching my Shield TV in favor of my Xbox One X. I tried out the new Plex client and... well, something is clearly not working the way I am expecting it to.

As far as I can tell, -all- 4K HEVC videos are being transcoded (both video and audio).

As an example, consider this file which is typical of what I expect to be able to play:

Container: MKV, Bitrate 63711 kbps, Width 3840, Height 2160, Color Space bt2020nc, Frame Rate 23.976 fps
HEVC Level 5.1 Profile main 10 Ref Frames 1, Size: 58.08 GB

When I look at my log, this is what I see:

It seems pretty clear that it thinks Direct Play is disabled, except... it isn't. On the Xbox One X, in settings, I have:

Allow Direct Play: checked
Allow Direct Stream: checked
Allow HDR: checked
Local Quality: original

What am I doing wrong? It feels like this video should not be being transcoded, but it is.

Sync stuck on "Waiting to download"...

This is a recent issue that's starting to affect only one of my Android devices (S7).

My other devices are syncing normally (nVidea Shield tablet, another S7 and S5s)

I have one show that's sync'd to my device, unwatched only.

Server shows items ready to sync:

Device goes through sync cycle and shows complete:

No downloads start...whether on the same network as the server or external.

I've included the device logs from an external sync attempt....lots of "404 Not Found" errors.

Any guidance would be appreciated.

Any help?

I will be traveling later this month and wanted to try out the Plex Pass Sync feature.
So I got a 1 month Plex Pass for $5

I also upgraded the PMS on my Ubuntu box to version 3.44.1
Android app version 7.0.2.5441

While connected to my home WiFi, it seemed to work. Allowed me to sync, showed me the episodes that were synced, allowed me to start them.

Once I left home and tried it nothing happened.
I could SEE the episodes in the Offline area, it would show the episode "tile" (with the season cover, and episode description), and resume where I had stopped watching.

But when I told it to play, the bar went to the bottom like always, but nothing happens. No playback.
Tried it repeatedly with all the episodes downloaded, same result.

If I turned WiFi back on, it worked fine - but defeats the point of having offline playback.

Any ideas how to make this work?

To get started:
1. Update Plex for Android to the latest version (6.0)

Why can't Plex find the poster of one particular show? (it is available on TVDB)

My Plex server can find metadata and posters for movies and TV shows just fine. However, for the TV show Burning ice (2017), it can only seem to find metadata, but no poster. There's a poster available in the TVDB though: https://www.thetvdb.com/series/burning-ice.


Error when trying to listen to synced music on Samsung S7

Hi All,

I have recently decided to sync our Plex Music Library on one of my family members Samsung S7 and get the following error message when clicking any of the artists who appear in the list...

The file associated with this item is not accessible by the server. Please verify that the file exists and the necessary drive is accessible

I am able to play the media on multiple other platforms (through Sonos, iPhone, other PC's) without any issues, has anyone got any ideas on how to resolve this?

TVDB v2

Is there a way yet to Split "Recently Added" lists on the Dashboard to specific Libraries?

For example, I have 2 libraries. One is "Movies", the other is "3D Movies".

If both libraries are enabled to show on the dashboard, they just group together under "Recently Added Movies". I don't want this, I want to be able to have a separate list that says "Recently Added [insert Library name here]" and create my own.

The last I can see any discussion about this was a year ago, anyone have any ideas if this is even being considered as an option and/or a way to have this work with some tinkering?

TV Themes don’t play

I already own the 500 GB 2017 Nvidia Shield and have the TV themes playing successfully when the TV show is open. I just bought the 16 GB Shield for my daughter but the TV themes don’t play even though the setting is turned on and both Shields are configured identically.
Both machines have the latest OS updates installed and Plex Server and client app are up to date. I’ve tried refreshing the metadata on the ‘silent’ machine without success. I’d appreciate any suggestions as to why this might be happening as it’s driving me crazy. PS - I discovered Plex last year and love it. The latest Collections feature is a godsend :)

Some subtitles not works on client

Hi,
sometimes subtitles (srt, utf-8) not works on client (sony smart TV). On media server is everything correct, but on client is display for example only time 00:00:00 all the time. Sometimes there are displayed names of captures. Do you have idea, what is caused?
