I've been thoroughly enjoying Plex for Android for years. I stopped updating at v6.1.6 for no particular reason, but during the whole time I had used the Android app, nothing significant had changed on the GUI. It didn't really need to change. Everything was easy to find, it worked pretty good, and I was happy.
I just updated one of my devices to v7.0.0 and I am almost ready to uninstall. I updated to see what was going on with the new podcast thing. I listen to a fair number of podcasts, and I have my Plex server sync'ing this media to my Android device. I only sync a half dozen or so to my cell phone, and they are generally set up to only sync the most recent 3 or 4 episodes when my phone is on WiFi. This way the newest ones are always there waiting for me to listen to without burning up my cellular data plan. I do the same kind of sync for music I want to have available in the car, and once in a blue moon a tv show or movie.
The way v6 was set up, I could view all the media sync'd to my phone, OR all the media on my Plex server with a single, simple drop down up at the top. When I chose to view 'local' media, it gave me a 'Home' screen with all the media on my cell phone. I could open up music, or video, etc with just one additional click. Or I could do the same thing for media on the server and stream if I needed to.
Now, what used to be a single easy drop down with 2 choices (3 if you have cloud sync) has turned into a long list of categories for all media, local and on the server, with duplicate entries for local media content. And first I have to choose the category of media I want to look at, then use that drop-down up top to find the right sub-category.
But all is not lost. All it needs is one simple reversion to make this new GUI manageable for me. Just change the top drop-down back to let us choose the SOURCE for the media we want to browse. Local, Plex server, or Cloud sync. I'm not interested in being able to see the content on my Plex server when I am going to be partaking of the LOCAL media on my mobile device. Similarly, when I want to view media on my Plex server, I don't want to see the media that is sync'd locally (I can already see that media since it's already on the server).
That one little change will bring back the ability to better isolate the media you wish to play, and eliminate accidental data charges when you start playing media off the server that you had already sync'd locally.
