Plex lags a lot after the latest Chromecast Plex app update.

$

Hi,

I have a big server with like 15 users on.

Yesterday and today, almost everyone has written to me because Plex doesn't work or lags a lot since the Plex Chromecast app has been updated, and I tried it myself and it stops, buffers, lags and it's a complete disaster for me and everyone of my users. Everything else works fine, Netflix, SVT Play, Youtube. But Plex doesn't work.

I can't downgrade the Chromecast app itself so how do I fix this? Just tell everyone to throw away their chromecasts and buy an apple tv? Seriously, the new update is ****.

PMS ridiculously slow in VM

I've installed PMS on Windows Server 2012 R2 in Hyper-V (gen 2).
Its running with 2 cores and 4GB RAM (i also tried 4 and 6 cores)

The hardware on the host are:
Intel Xeon E3-1245V6 (4 cores/2 logical cores per physical)
16GB RAM
Dual NIC

I have one other guest running with 1 core and 2GB RAM (also Windows Server 2012 R2)

I have one of the NIC's dedicated for the host. And the other one is shared among the guests. Host doesnt have access to the NIC the guests are using.

at first, Everything was running fine. But one day later the guest OS for Plex is slow as syrup.
And visiting Plex Web takes forever to load. Videos sometimes freeze when playing from my Nvidia Shield, and sometimes stops completely and message about server unavailable shows. The OS has also crashed and restarted one time.

Anyone with any idea on whats up?
Not sure if i got all information needed for you to help me. So if i missed something just ask for it. :)

EDIT: edited in more information.

Deleted PlexMovie.Bundle from /usr/lib/plexmediaserver/Resources/Plus-ins-1046ba85f/ instead of /var/lib/...

tried putting it back from the github, but I can't get it to show back up in the server agents tab.

PMS, DS918+ and Agents

$

So, here's my situation.

I've been using Plex for two years now. Until last week, my setup was the following: a DS216play to store my media and my Windows 10 Core i7 laptop to run PMS and stream my content to my Sony 4K Android TV or anything else, particularly my iPhone. As you may be aware, the DS216play sucks at running PMS, so I needed my laptop.

These whole two years I have been using PLEX with this setup, I have never had any problems with automatically matching my media using The Movie Database and downloading all relevant metadata. My laptop PMS library is flawless: it has all meta, posters, backgrounds, collection associations etc., and all of this is downloaded almost instantly when new media is added.

That was last week.

But then I decided to upgrade my NAS and now I have a DS918+. I downloaded the x64 PMS package and manually installed it with Package Center. It was up and running in no time with no hassle. I never thought I would transcode 4K content to my iPhone and play it in 1080p over LTE without needing a HTPC to do the heavy lifting. Perfect.

The problem, however, started when I had PMS scan my media folders for all my movies (I have not imported my library from Windows, as I read here it could lead to issues). Using the same configuration for matching purposes and The Movie Database as agent, PMS was simply unable to download ANY metadata. It does not even find the movies it was supposed to, as they have never existed. Interestingly, if I change the agent to Plex Movie, it somehow succeeds, but in a ridiculously slow speed. I mean, each matching takes approximately 2 minutes. I have a 240Mbps connection with 20Mbps upload.

Right now, I have two PMS associated with my Plex Pass account: the one that is still running in my laptop and the one running at the DS918+. Both are behind my router and both are accessible from outside my network, as I properly configured port forwarding rules. The PMS at my laptop continues to be flawless: in a matter of seconds, it is able to download all possible metadata from The Movie Database. The PMS at my NAS cannot.

My limited understanding makes me believe this has something to do with configuration of firewalls or port forwarding or whatever, at my router firmware or at DSM. Does anyone have any insight on that? Are there any ports that need to be open in order to PMS be able to access The Movie Database content? It just does not make sense to me that two PMS running simultaneously have such different behavior in what should be a simple download task.

This is the only reason I have not deactivated my laptop PMS yet, as it has been very frustrating trying to organize my new library and not being able to.

PLEASE HELP!!!

PS: Sorry for any mistakes with my English. I'm Brazilian.

Metadata won't update for TV shows.

This problem started yesterday, I think. I wasn't having any issues when I last did an update last week, but now when I added two new shows, it loads the cover art and then won't pull any information for the episodes themselves.

Things I've already checked:
-- My router has ipv6 disabled
-- I did the plex dance, deleting the shows, emptying the trash, cleaning up the bundles, deleting the thetv cache, readding the shows, same problem.
-- It's fine with other media. (At least, movies are working fine.)

I am not sure what else to do?

Playback of 1080p movies just stop on an Nvidia Shield TV (2017)

I have the latest version of Plex installed on my Nvidia Shield TV 2017 Edition. (It has a 1TB USB drive plugged into it for adaptive storage). I then have a 3TB hard drive plugged directly into it which has all my movies stored on it.

The problem I have is, I start watching a movie but after 20 minutes of watching it the playback of the movie just stops without warning and goes back to the screen where I can select PLAY, MARK AS WATCHED etc. etc.

Can anyone please help???

I have attached a log file...Hopefully its the correct file...as I downloaded loads.

Are video games bad for kids?

I read recently 81% of 8 year old kids play video games. My thoughts on whether or not this is a problem and how we've worked with our kids who also love video games.
I read recently 81% of eight year old kids play video games. This was reported as shocking and possibly very bad news. As a parent of older teenagers, I’m not so certain. Here are some thoughts I have as a parent raising two kids who love video games.
The first time I saw the image above amazed me. I sat on a sofa behind my son to watch him play Assassin’s Creed, specifically, as he rode a horse up over a hill and looked down on Jerusalem. Except it wasn’t in the past few years. The moving world on the screen was the Third Crusade, 1189 to 1192. A few minutes later, my son was off his horse and stood on the church tower you see above.
I began to understand what attracted my son to his games. While parts of many games are silly, games can be a sort of time travel, as in the case of Assassin’s Creed, or travel in a fantasy world. In the same way time travel would drag you out of your daily hum drum life, playing some of these games provides the same escape as a really good book or movie.

[Release] HTTP Anidb Metadata Agent (HAMA)

I am officially forking the HTTP Anidb Metadata Agent (HAMA) made by Atomicstraberry and posted here: http://forums.plexapp.com/index.php/topic/66918-release-http-anidb-metadata-agent-hama/After having concerted with him by mail, i will take over but give due feedback, as he created it, and i would and could not have done it without his code first, as i didn't know Python before. Great language by hte way!!!
As discussed with him:

  • His name will always be part of the header as he created it and was kind enough to let me take over
  • I put the source on GIT: https://github.com/ZeroQI/Hama . i am new to git, so please be understanding...
  • I create a new thread to be able to control the new releases on this first post [this one]

The readme is located here:https://github.com/ZeroQI/Hama/blob/master/README.mdIt will indicate the changes since v0.4Major changes:

  • Title search 100% local using AniDB title database XML file.
  • TVDB and AniDB XML serie page download cached a week by default
  • TVDB Poster by default, downloading AniDB unique poster only if no TVDB poster present
  • ScudLee XML mapping file to convert AniDB id to TVDB id without TVDB search needed (removed from )
  • Studio when missing in AniDB
  • Collection for Movie sets from XML mapping file (and matching with AniDB related anime fields)
  • Using episode summary from TVDB when present
  • HTML links to the TVDB and AniDB in Serie and episode page (off by default)
  • Warning messages for community improvement (missing anidb poster, missing TVDB en poster, missing episode summary, studio variable in AniDB AND mappingfile, theTVDB id missing from mapping file)
  • Themes songs 30s, from plex server using tvdb id [http://wiki.plexapp.com/index.php/TV_Themes]

This should prevent AniDB banning, since no search is done, no poster is downloaded, just the serie XML by ID.I will modify this post with any new releases, i am polishing out the bugs for now:

  • Testing speed and accuracy. need information on performance
  • Tweaking HTML links when TVDB id not in list, alerts when episode summary empty, etc...
  • Test serie/movie within both serie and movie folder settings

You can browse the source code and replace it in place of v0.4 as a beta, but the XML files need to be in Resources folder at the same level as code one

See github readme, that's the most recent one

How it works

==========

Scanners show the files or not in plex. if it's not showing, it's the scanner fault

Agent when files are showing update the metadata. This agent:

. match the title to the AniDB Database locally (no online query to AnidDB to prevent getting banned for a day). It use synonyms, and search titles in all languages. you can select the language order in plugin settings

. use xml matching table to fing the TVDB serie ID.

. use posters from ANiDB (off by default, because they are crap but the only source for Hentai posters) or by default TVDB (use high res constant resolution posters, but do not store Hentai, have fanart and seasons posters as well)

. The XML mapping file comes from the XBMC AniDB mod plugin and all xmls are cached 2 weeks and downloaded automatically

. Use TheTVDB for Anime Episode summaries (AniDB seem to not use summaries for episodes)

. Use theme songs from Plex server (backlog of 2 years, no need to update themes for now) indexed on thetvdb id. I store them locally using the anidb id if you want to create your own packages (and share?) and therefore you can have the right season music theme song...

. logs like missing episodes are generated, also contain links to update episode summaries and missing posters... Give back digitally to the community...

The XMLs are downloaded (cached for 2 weeks) and a copy is saved here and used in case of internet issue

. anime-titles.xml, the AniDB title database, part of the AniDB HTTP API : http://anidb.net/api...e-titles.xml.gz decompressed (xml extension). this is parsed locally to find serie title matches

. anime-list-master.xml   ScudLee's AniDB to TVDB xml mapping file, give studio and episode mapping list for te episode overview, downloaded from https://raw.github.c...list-master.xml

. anime-movieset-list.xml ScudLee's movie collection (Because XBMC only support movie collection and the files were develloped for AniDB mod XBMC plugin), downloaded from https://raw.github.c...vieset-list.xml

Agents can only write data in data folder as binary objects or as dictionaries, but cannot create folders unfortunately (if i am wrong, let me know)
I use theses folders to cache all pictures, theme songs, since they are not cached by plex.
This way, even if you recreate the whole Plex anime folder entry, you do not have to download the same file again.

Known Issues:
===========

People names in Kanji

Producers and actors names are using romaji name like anidb does. I have been requested for an option in Kanji
Unfortunatly in AniDB serie XML (example: http://api.anidb.net...over=1&aid=2656), the creator names are like that:
<creators>
<name id="735" type="Animation Work">Gonzo</name>
<name id="1793" type="Character Design">Iijima Hiroya</name>
<name id="102" type="Direction">Kizaki Fuminori</name>
<name id="1793" type="Chief Animation Direction">Iijima Hiroya</name>
<name id="22332" type="Music">The RZA</name>
<name id="11136" type="Original Work">Okazaki Takashi</name>
</creators>
I would have to process one more XML [http://anidb.net/per...&creatorid=6692] to translate it in kanji, which means one more access to AniDB for each. I could create a local (or remote web) cache but for now that would require too much coding at the time. if an xml existed out of anidb with the name i would probably use it

Series with year in title

Plex remove the year from the scanner side before Hama receive it, i need to check if i could correct it by modding the scanner not to drop the year

Hentai with no poster?

TVDB doesn't list sport and porn so hentai will not be listed there, so no fanart, no banner, no (season) posters and no episode summary. The same happens if no tvdb entry is there, or if not in the mapping file yet.

Movies not being detected

You did use the serie agent for a movie didn't you ?
It's not showing so it's a scanner issue you dope.... Just put 01 after the movie name and it will be picked up and yes my wonderful agent manage this case, but will gather only serie type of information (no producer)

Test series name
================
   . Semi-colon: Chaos;Head, Steins;Gate, Myself;Yourself
. Year: KissXSis (2010), Black Rock Shooter (2012), Fate Zero (2012), Seitokai Yakuindomo (2011), Tenjou Tenge (2005)
   . Exclamation mark: K-On!, K-On!!
   . Apostrophe: Seitokai Yakuindomo'
   . Love Live 2
   . Terra e..
. Movies: Gekijouban Shakugan no Shana, Kowarekake no Orgel, Sora no Otoshimono Project Pink
. Strange" has no match and no semicolon to blame
. "Toaru Hikuushi e no Koiuta" had no tvdb match like "Onee-chan ga kita", "Jigoku Sensei Nube" and "Corpse Party Tortured Souls".

To Do
=====
. Package of Studio Logos (see post here). Will not work on that but somebody else can
. Package of Theme Songs supported, but none exist (name convention: anidbid.mp3). Plex use 30s songs but use seasons, so a package of songs capped at 30s should share the same legality. will not work on that but local loading works
. Get Plex to not crash when writing to Agent Data folders, but even with try except, it fails if folders not created already so outside my reach and plex has to fix

HDR files on non HDR displays/clients

$
0
0

I have more and more HDR content on my server. Right now neither the server nor the client (Web/xbox one in my case) handles HDR properly. My Roku does output HDR, but i never use it.

I'd rather not have an HDR file and non HDR, but right now I feel like that is the only way to handle it. There is the xbox one issue where the screen can handle HDR but the app doesn't, but the bigger issue I see is what happens when an HDR file is served up to a client that simply cannot output HDR. Is it possible that plex can handle it with a light transcoding on the server or can the clients better down sample to display a more vivid output? Right now, the output is a very muddy subdued look that is unacceptable. If Plex can never handle this gracefully, then I'd rather start having 2 copies in my library now.

[Anleitung] Deutsche Filmtitel und Beschreibungen v3

$
0
0

  • deutsche Filmtitel
  • deutsche Zusammenfassung
  • deutsche Poster
  • deutsche Genres
  • deutsche Trailervideos

  • auf "More..." klicken

-> "OFDB", "Plex Movie", "CineMaterial (optional)", "Local Media Assets (Movies)", "OpenSubtitles.org" (optional)

    -> [aktiviert] "Titel" und "FSK"

Bei 'Cast List Source': The MovieDatabase einstellen, sonst gibt's keine Schauspielerporträts.

PlexKodiConnect (PKC)

Combine the best frontend media player Kodi with the best multimedia backend server Plex

PKC combines the best of Kodi - ultra smooth navigation, beautiful and highly customizable user interfaces and playback of any file under the sun - and the Plex Media Server.

Warning

Use at your own risk! This plugin assumes that you manage all your videos with Plex (and none with Kodi). You might lose data already stored in the Kodi video and music databases as this plugin directly changes them. Don't worry if you want Plex to manage all your media (like you should ;-)).

Some people argue that PKC is 'hacky' because of the way it directly accesses the Kodi database. See here for a more thorough discussion.

What does PKC do?

PKC synchronizes your media from your Plex server to the native Kodi database. Hence:

  • Use virtually any other Kodi add-on
  • Use any Kodi skin, completely customize Kodi's look
  • Browse your media at full speed (cached artwork)
  • Automatically get additional artwork (more than Plex offers)
  • Enjoy Plex features using the Kodi interface

PKC Features

Download and Installation

Install PKC via the PlexKodiConnect Kodi repository download button just below (do NOT use the standard GitHub download!). See the github wiki installation manual for a detailed guide. Please use the stable version except if you really know what you're doing. Kodi will update PKC automatically.

Important Notes

  1. If you are using a low CPU device like a Raspberry Pi or a CuBox, PKC might be instable or crash during initial sync. Lower the number of threads in the PKC settings under Sync Options. Don't forget to reboot Kodi after that.
  2. Compatibility:
    • PKC is currently not compatible with Kodi's Video Extras plugin. Deactivate Video Extras if trailers/movies start randomly playing.
    • PKC is not (and will never be) compatible with the MySQL database replacement in Kodi. In fact, PKC replaces the MySQL functionality because it acts as a "man in the middle" for your entire media library.
    • If another plugin is not working like it's supposed to, try to use PKC direct paths

Known Larger Issues

Solutions are unlikely due to the nature of these issues

  • A Plex Media Server "bug" leads to frequent and slow syncs, see here for more info
  • Plex Music when using Addon paths instead of Native Direct Paths: Kodi tries to scan every(!) single Plex song on startup. This leads to errors in the Kodi log file and potentially even crashes. See the Github issues for more details. Workaround: use PKC direct paths instead of addon paths.

Background Sync:
The Plex Server does not tell anyone of the following changes. Hence PKC cannot detect these changes instantly but will notice them only on full/delta syncs (standard settings is every 60 minutes)

  • Toggle the viewstate of an item to (un)watched outside of Kodi

Hey Friends,

I just wanted to share my tip for a great source for cheap media to feed your Plex library are Goodwill's and Savers Stores or similar places. You can usually get a movie for about a dollar and a TV show series season for $4 and the best part is you'll most likely be supporting a good cause and own the physical media.

plex remote access

I just purchased the lifetime Plex Pass. I am having trouble trying to engage remote access. When trying to setup port forwarding I changed all ports to default (32400) turned all firewalls off but still not able to connect. It appears to engage for a second than quickly turns off again. I don’t think I’m in a double nat scenario since I only have one router, but I do have an Ethernet switch box. I have read the troubleshoot info Plex provides but did not help. I have comcast internet and have a Linksys WRT1900ACS smart wifi router.
I will have to ask for a refund if I cant get the remote access working!

Buffering issue - network not fast enough

Hello,

I have Plex server v1.12.1.4885-1046ba85f running on a Synology DS213j NAS connected to the Plex client v6.14.1 on an NVIDIA Shield TV. For some videos, the playback pauses every few seconds and I get a message from the Plex client that the network is not fast enough to stream the video. I'm using Direct Play (no transcoding). The network is Gigabit Ethernet from the server to the client. I can play the same file on the Shield perfectly using VLC Player (via SMB share to the NAS) instead of the Plex client, so the problem is clearly not the network speed. Plex was working fine with these same video files before, so something must have changed in one of the automatic updates to either the server or client.

Anyone else having this issue? I also noticed that there's a new information overlay saying that "ExoPlayer v2" is being used; this message was not present in older versions (which worked fine).

Would appreciate any insights. As it stands, Plex is now unusable for me.

Thanks!

Remote access not working when Plex is running on host machine with Hyper-V virtual switch installed

Like many it seems I too am struggling to get Remote Access enabled from my Win 10 PC. I had issues (which I wont go into here, to do with VPNs) where I subsequently decided to enable Hyper-V to use a VM to run such non-Plex related software. However that meant creating a Hyper-V external virtual switch, which in turn seems to have broken Plex remote connectivity on the host PC. Local access is all fine, just no Remote Access.

Configuration:

  • Windows 10 host PC, running Plex Media Server
  • DHCP
  • UPnP enabled on the router.
  • Hyper-V virtual switch to enabled my VM(s) to work.

Remote Access "was" working on my PC originally. However even without the VMs running it no longer works, it seems because my network configuration now has the Hyper-V virtual switch in it's chain.

One possibility I was considering was to buy a USB ethernet adapter as a second network card for my host PC. Then bind the virtual switch to that rather than my primary network adapter. However I don't know if that will work for sure or indeed if there is just some simple configuration tweak I can use to get that port 32400 traffic on the host forwarded through the Hyper-V virtual switch...

Help very much appreciated, thanks!

USB DAC limit output to 48khz?

Hello,
I have HRT Music Streamer II connected to Rasplex (Raspberrypi3 - USB boot), however I can not force RasPlex to play 96kHz on HRT. Upsampling does not work above 48K, even if I set the Fixed output 96Khz limit.

There is no problem on macOS with HRT and 96kHz.

Here is my /storage/.config/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf
<br /> options snd-usb-audio index=0<br /> options snd_bcm2835 index=1<br /> options snd-usb-audio nrpacks=1<br />

/storage/.config/asound.conf (this does not work either)
</p> <p>pcm.!default {<br /> type hw<br /> card 0<br /> }</p> <p>ctl.!default {<br /> type hw<br /> card 0<br /> }<br />

PicoPlayer have some settings for HRT Music Streamer, but I do not know where I could use them in Rasplex's ALSA (what is "80:2:24_3" ?).

<br /> Output settings: front:CARD=II,DEV=0 ALSA settings: 80:2:24_3:<br />

Is there solution to this problem?
