Remote Access shows green then turns red

I moved to a new address and in the process we had to switch ISP and buy a new wireless router. Now my plex server will not allow remote access at all. I have gone thru all the trouble shooting documents and read everything I can on the forums and nothing will work.

I will get the green check mark for about 2 seconds then it turns red and tells me "Not available outside your network" below are all the details for my setup and my trouble shooting steps.

ISP: Charter/SPectrum
router: Netgear Nighthawk R7900P (firmware version: V1.2.1.6_1.1.86)
Plex Server: Windows 10 Pro/ Version 1709

Troubleshooting steps:

  • turned UPnP on and off
  • setup manual port forwarding to 32400 in the router, windows firewall
  • tried using static IP address
  • tried using IP reservation with my router
  • checked and unchecked "manually specify public port"
  • used open port check tool "canyouseeme.org" but was not able to get a open port

I have tried everything I can think of and everything the trouble shooting documents and forums say to check. can someone please help me. let me know if you need any screen shots or more detailed info. thank you

Thanks a lot. Once again I have to unallow my kids the use of a managed plex account because of a bug in the latest ATV app update that adds news crap to your dashboard. I found the setting to turn it off on my admin account but it’s ignoring on my managed users.

UI/Functionality Issues Since Most Recent Update

First of all, I really love Plex, and appreciate everything you guys do. When I first saw the new UI with the most recent Xbox One release I liked it (unlike what many others have been saying). But after using it for a while I've run in to a number of issues and quirky behavior which seem to be related and that make it feel like a step backwards. It can be incredibly frustrating, and I don't have the option of switching to a different player like others do.

  • BUG #1 - I almost always need to turn down quality to watch without buffering. So, when I begin playing a the video, the play-menu-bar shows up. But it doesn't work at this point. If I try to move the cursor over from the play/pause icon to settings, the cursor doesn't move, instead the menu just disappears altogether. So, then say I press A again to bring it back up. If I hit A once again to attempt to pause it, the icon won't even change. If instead I go directly over to settings and change them, when I try to resume watching, it freezes up and eventually gives a "There was a problem playing this item. The video did not start playing in time." error.

    • The only way to get this working is, after hitting play, to wait a long time for the maximum quality video to buffer and begin playing. This means waiting for the play-menu-bar to disappear on its own before hitting A, pausing it, and changing the settings. This is a very common action, and just seems to buggy and glitch prone, see Recommendation #1.
  • BUG #2 - I drop the quality of a TV show down after starting to play it, as mentioned above. If I pause it to go to the bathroom, when I come back it has brought me back to the select user screen. When I hit play or resume, it has forgotten about my new quality settings. Sometimes this happens just by pressing B to stop it normally. And once again I have to go through the steps above to get it to play at a lower quality. It's very annoying to do all that and then have to re-do it because of the sleep timer. Even worse, sometimes when this happens, it forgets my current location in the video, so I have to play the fast forward buffering game which is garbage.

  • Recommendation #1 - Let me switch the quality or set subtitles of a video from the menu screen before playing a video. As mentioned in the bugs it takes a number of extra steps to do this within the video, and after each change it needs to re buffer. Really not sure why this option was removed in the update. Would be even more useful to be able to select a default quality to use for an entire season, so that I don't need to repeat these steps for every episode.
  • Recommendation #2 - If I pause to get up and go to the bathroom, in just the minute or two I'm away, it has already gone back to the select user screen. There is just no reason for this! It's not like I'm looking at sensitive bank records that would be potentially dangerous to leave on the screen and walk away from. When I log back in, it takes me back to the menu of the media I was just watching, but still - especially when combined with the other bugs/issues I've mentioned this is another 3-4 steps just to get it playing again. Just seems like a real senseless pain in the butt. In the old version I could walk away and let it buffer in the background for a good long while, now that doesn't even seem to be an option, so I am completely limited by the instantaneous speed of my connection? This is really a big issue for me.

Would appreciate some feedback on these. Please let me know if my description of scenario could use more elaboration. Thanks!

Error: not enough bandwidth for any playback

I have an error that pops up specifically on my Roku "Not enough bandwidth for any playback of this item. Cannot convert to below minimum bandwidth of 103kbps. Neither direct play nor conversion is available."
I have isolated the error to occur when trying to play videos that require audio transcoding (video can be stepped down without issue). I have tried force direct play but these videos have ac3 5.1 audio which results in no sound output.
Connection is via LAN to server.
Have not had this issue prior to three days ago.
Server and roku versions are both up to date.
No issues on firetv connected via LAN to same network when transcoding ac3 audio to aac.
Server is not overloaded at all, is able to transcode multiple videos simultaneously.
I am unsure if this is an issue with a new update to PMS or the client, or if it is an issue with the roku firmware.

We are tired of waiting for fixes and even more tired of being left in the dark for a quarter of a whole calendar year. If this poor guy has health issues, tell us something personal is an issue. If he quit, tell us you are looking for a replacement. If this app is above your guys ability, say we are incompetent. At this point tell us something. For crying out-loud, at this point just post a link to Emby on this forum. I don't know who thinks this is the way to do PR and support, but it isn't.

I upgraded to the newest Plex server version, and it's been down hill since. All my clients (including remote) are now slow to load. Icons, posters, everything in general is slow (or just don't show up). A few videos here and there, refuse to load at all. Can't seam to get into settings half the time, says "unavailable".

Is there a archive of the previous versions? I want to go back.

The system manager tells me the driver for my neywork card is not loaded after Plex install and reboot.

I can't get on the internet now. Why in the world would this program remove my network adapter driver?

Charge me $5.00, then render my pc useless, causing me big hassles. Not a good first impression.

How to Name Disney Animated Shorts Specials

I figured out how to name Disney Animated Shorts - generally. However, I have just gotten stuck on having to name my first "Special" episode. TVDB lists it as a Special that first aired in 1940 between regular episodes 9 and 10 for that year. TVDB also lists it as Special Episode number 4 of 63 on its Disney Animated Shorts Specials List. I have tried different ways to name the episode for Plex with no luck. I have also created a "Specials" folder under my Disney Animated Specials folder and placed the episode there. Plex can now see the episdoe, but Plex is not drawing any of the TVDB information, so obviously I am not naming the episode correctly as far as Plex is concerned.

Does anyone have any information to share and/or know what I am doing wrong? I hate when I cannot figure something like this out on my own, but I am spending too much time on this. There will be other Special episodes to contend with as I continue doing this, so I would like to obtain the solution now, if it is out there at all.

Plex Server version: 1.9.2.4285-9f65b88ae
(Dedicated Plex Server is a Windows 10 environment, but I typically maintain and access the server through my Mac OS Sierra 10.12.6)
iOS: 11
Apple TvOS: 10.2.2

Every time I try to play any of my media on my phone, through the plex website or my Apple TV I keep getting the same error. “Couldn’t retrieve the play queue for this media”.

I’ve tried restarting the server, Apple TV and phone with no change. I’ve also tried re-installing plex to try and repair the issue and still no change. I’ve switched to allow unsecure connections which hasn’t worked either.

Any ideas to fix this would be great. Thanks.

Optimize for TV hits 100% but doesn't complete

When running the optimize for TV process it runs up through the percents until hitting 100%, but never actually completes. It will sit on 100% for days but never complete the file and move it out of the .inProgress folder with the MP4 tag. The system optimized about 5 .mkv files correctly then started this issue. I've tried several different files all with the same results. The Shield has been reset as well with the same results.

Folders view: Still grouping episodes together from separate folders

I'm putting a show that has been edited (One Pace) to my Plex server and it is split out by arcs. I have turned off matching and put episodes into separate folder by arc.

On the web app, I then select "Folders" view which shows the folders/arcs just fine.

But when I get to the files, they are still grouped up on top of each other (like each episode 01 for 5 arcs is thrown into a single episode on Plex). How can I fix this?

Other question: How can I show file name in the folders view? It defaults to title, but I don't see "file name" in the options to show columns.

Plex clients not showing some TV series for just one user.

This seems strange, but I share my TV library and one of my users cannot see some series, while other friends can. This is not just one plex client. I've tried in on Roku TV and in Chrome and that user cannot see a few of the series. I have not set any restrictions in the user share setting. I completed removed the user from the shares, and re-added them, and still shows are missing. Thoughts?

No Channels are showing any content

I'm using Mac, Sierra, Latest PMS Plex Pass version

In both Chrome and Safari I can see all of my channels in the the channel library: CBS, The CW, WebTools, etc. But when I open any one of the channels it will display no links or images. Just an empty page with all of the typical Plex links at the top of the page.

I installed Plex Media Player and I can see everything there, however I rarely use that. I can also see content and links for my channels on my Android device's app. But I mostly use my Plex Web page shortcuts within a browser and want to figure why this is happening. Just started today and, like I said, happens with both Chrome and Safari.

Any thoughts on what may be blocking the content from showing up?

Issues with Roku Ultra, are they still a thing?

I have a chance to get a Roku Ultra locally, and in researching plex on the Ultra, I see that it suffers from similar issues as the Roku 4 (dunno if the Premiere, Premiere+ and Streaming Stick+, all of which do 4K suffer from the same issues), mainly playback issues in plex, as mentioned in this thread

All videos stopping unexpectedly a few minutes before the end

I have a couple of Roku 4 devices. They used to work just fine, and I could watch shows and movies all the way to the end without fault. For a couple of weeks now, they seem to be stopping playback and toggling the status to "watched" about 1-2 minutes before they're actually over. I've tried skipping back to the playback point I was at, but it doesn't work.

I can still watch the end of the shows and movies on my phone (Android in the native Plex App) so it seems it's not a server issue, unless it's how the server is communicating with Roku.

I've tried to force an app update on the Roku, but that doesn't seem to work.

I've attached my logs if anybody can see what's going on.
