For the past 24 hours now I have been trying to add a library to my Plex server, I have no problem telling you that it's a porn collection containing 398GB's of video, which is probably quite small compared to others but none the less, that's what I'm working with here. I have no desire for metadata so I have that all turned off, I just want the thumbnails generated for each video so that I can see a picture for each title in my library (which is working fine for the most part.)

The problem? My problem is that the scan never completes, it just runs and runs and runs, most of the files get updated with a thumbnail pic in the library but there are quite a few that don't, so the icon that spins next to the library name when scanning just continues to spin, all while running my processor to death. I am able to manually create a thumbnail pic for the video files that are not generating one automatically, by clicking on the little pencil icon on the lower left hand of the video file, then by clicking on background and choosing one of the automated pics that have been created but for some reason not applied to the file and then the video file updates and changes to that thumbnail pic. So that seems to solve the problem but I don't understand why it's not being done automatically for all of the video files.

I have no other issue when adding any other libraries (they are not porn related and are much smaller in size), the largest library isn't over 20GB's. So I'm not sure if the issue here is that the porn library is too large and Plex can't handle it and just gets stuck completing updating everything or what.

My laptop is 2 years old, it's a Dell, Intel Core i-7 (dual core unfortunately), 16GB ram, 1TB hd and I'm running a AC/5GHz network with a 200MBPS downstream line from Comcast.

I'm starting to get really frustrated with this, I have googled this issue and it appears others using Plex have had issues getting large libraries to complete correctly so I'm not sure what to do from here.

My wife's M-F daily chat/cooking shows are recorded OTA on a usb stick and brought over to my Plex library. I use the optimize feature to convert the mpeg2 .ts files so they are easy to stream as she tends to catch up to them on the weekends via the bedroom Roku. As she views them - I occasionally go through and delete through the plex interface via my web browser on the main TV Show library screen.

Deleting the viewed episodes correctly deletes both the original file and the optimized file -- no problem there.

While I was looking at conversion activity for another batch of her daily shows, I noticed a warning about a problem converting items in the Conversion status screen. When I looked at the Optimized Version Settings screen, it was flagging all of the episodes that were deleted (along with their optimized versions) as an error due to invalid path. Actual error on the list is 'undefined fail items'. Clicking on an entry shows the expected 'path is invalid' error.

My question is: Since the deletions are being done by Plex (and deleting files correctly) - shouldn't the 'history' that is displayed in the Optimized Version settings screen be cleaned also? I mean - Plex is the one doing the deleting. Will that list eventually be cleaned up? Or will it just continue adding to the list until I go through and delete each 'file' -- even though it is already gone.

I should mention that I've gone through the optimize database - clean bundles - empty trash cycle and it doesn't seem to have any effect on what is shown in the Optimized Version Settings list. Is this just normal behavior and I will need to remember to go through and clean that list myself occasionally?

Need help. I'm freaking out!

It's been days since I can reproduce absolutely nothing on my Plex Cloud. I have already tried on iOS devices, Android, Windows 10 and MacOS. Videos appear normally but the player does not play.

Attached is a print of the Chrome console on macOS. Previously, the error "shaka1001" appeared. I have seen in other forums about this same error, and so far I have not found any solution.

I've tried restarting the server, re-created it, cleared browsing data, finally did everything. Please help me.

I can't get my library to scan on a new FreeNAS install. I think Plex sees the files, but nothing seems to happen.

with cyber monday I plan on buying a NAS sysnology seems to be the one I have been looking at. I currenlty run plex on my mac and it work great with no issues. I only do local streaming no remote. I mainly use plex plugins but do get some mkv and avi files to watch.

I have roku 3's and Firetv 4k boxes. I thought they do the transcoding however I am not 100% sure. So I only need a 2bay nas
Do I buy nas like DS218+ and run plex on it or something else and have the macbook run plex and just map to the NAS.

Or is it possible to have plex on nas and do transcoding on macbook

Hold out for HDR/Atmos/DTS:X on XBox One S or just buy an Nvidia Shield?

I own an XBox One S and the plex app was recently updated, but as of yet it still transcodes anything with a HD audio codec attached.

It also doesn't play HDR on 4K content meaning andy 4K HDR content looks washed out.

I currently use PMP though windows 10 as my main media player, but apparently that is a no go for HDR also, even if I upgrade to an appropriate graphics card.

Now I know that the Nvidia Shield will play everything you throw at it. So my question is, do I wait it out another while in the hope the XBox app gets updated to support everything in the same way as the shield or do I just bite the bullet an purchase the shield?

All, I'm running into issues with program guide refreshes. When a refresh is underway, the Shield is virtually unusable - not just Plex, but Live Channels, HD HomeRun app, everything - until the refresh completes. I read that guide refreshes occur during scheduled tasks or upon a restart if the guide is more than 18 hours old. The latter appears to be my issue and I don't see a way to stop it from happening. Any help would be most appreciated.

I'm trying to replace my cable boxes with an HD HomeRun / Plex / Shields on each TV, but this is really causing major problems and is making it hard to convince my family to make the switch. If the media guide update is making the the TV not available when people want to watch TV, then what good is having the Plex DVR? I might as well just switch back to cable boxes.

I have thousands of videos, 100's in any given category.
Let's say there are 300 files named:
Gina - fourth of July, Gina - Christmas, Gina - etc...
and, all the 'Gina' titles (files) are in a Library titled 'Gina'.
and the Title & Sort Title are the same as the File Name.

I want to be able to EDIT the 'Sort Title' field, eliminating the 'Gina - ' leaving the 'fourth of July, Christmas, etc. so that the video/movie, say 'Christmas' is easier to find, index.
What I'm try to do is 'bulk' edit the 'Sort Title' field for many hundreds of records (files), vs going to each Title in Library Window and [mousing to and ] clicking Edit, Sort Title, selecting (highlighting) the 'Gina - ' [letting go of the mouse] Typing something else or not, [moving hand off keyboard, back to mouse] clicking save, over and over
for 100's of videos/movies in multiple Libraries.

I've scp (secure copied) the /var/lib/plexmediaserver/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Plug-in Support/Databases/com.plexapp.plugins.library.db to my workstation and looked around, using DB Browser for SQLite, but running queries and editing hundreds of records may be beyond it's purpose. The table I've seen with Titles (fts4_metadata_titles), actually contains them all (some 20204). filtering in this DB Browser, sucks, so I have to physically scroll through the whole list. I've not tried, yet, loading the whole db in SublimeText3 to see if I can, using regex, search and replace there. (but, 60MB file might take some time to load or I'd need to export (command line), the fts4_metadata_titles table, edit and import it back)

1) Name your Justice League Unlimited set using Filebot. (I'll include my directory list for debugging.)
2) Install PLEX. (Or, I turned off PLEX, stopped the update service, and removed all the contents of Appdata/local/Plex Media server/ to force the removal of any libraries.)
3) Reboot. Start PLEX. Add JLU to library. In this case, it should be the first directory added.
4) The resulting listing will be Justice League and it's episodes, NOT JLU.

My 'TV Shows' library folder as given to PLEX is "D:\Plex Media\TV Shows". All my naming conventions should be fine. I am letting PLEX use the current install default for wherever it gets it's metadata from. If I can use a better source for metadata, leave instructions on how to change it, and I will blow away the library, change to that, and try again.

Hi,

I'm hoping to implement this but I have a common occurrence that I would like to address up front. I gte requests for stuff that is already present on the server and by having the request system integrated I would love to be able to have the request system tell people they are asking for something already present.

I am having issues with continued crashing of the videos when watching on FireTV (brand new - not stick - high speed 5Ghz full signal). No errors are presented. The video will just freeze and then finally Plex app will crash. This can happen sporadically or very frequently. It has gotten to where watching videos through Plex is troublesome.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Installation:

• This channel can be installed via WebTools.bundle or manually follow the directions below.

• Cryptodome : PyCryptodome is a self-contained Python package of low-level cryptographic primitives
  -- A cryto library required for Host Mega to function. Mega only allows downloading files, not streaming. Currently, G2G and ALL-UC are the only providers that provide links for Mega.
• PhantomJS: PhantomJS is a headless WebKit scriptable with a JavaScript API
  -- A headless browser that allows opening webpages and extracting the final video url required for playback. Currently, OpenLoad is the only host utilizing this.

New automation routine for reqkey cookie. Details on how to set them up are discussed below. You only need 1 of them. Thanks to @Twoure for both the methods.

Note: Important Please read

As of v. 0.50 (Nov-2017) the site seems to not use the cookie token anymore, though it still has it in its code. I'm going to leave that in the channel plugin code incase it is back. So now resetting cookie wont dump any token code and also Webhook (hook.io) and Node.Js parts of the code are not being used (Automation methods discussed below) and not required. The session/cf cookie is still used so Reset Cookie can still fix cookie related issues.

Method 1: Installing a JRE (Java Runtime Engine) like Node.js

The preferred automation routine for the cookie requires a JRE installed on the PMS machine. There are a few other JRE's that might work as well but I have only tested this with Node.js. Once installed restart your PMS and confirm in your channel log if possible and see the following entries to confirm..

Then navigate to the Reset Cookie and try a video and check if you are still getting the token error.

Method 2: Using a webhook url - please fork the one below and use your own

The other automation method (primarily where JRE cannot be installed) utilizes a website to run a small script to decode (similar to the manual process using jsfiddle). It is limited to 1000 request per month with their free plan so I request everyone to signup for the free account and fork this script https://hook.io/coder-alpha/test/fork and then enter it under the Channel settings/Prefs

Once you have updated the Settings/Prefs with your webhook-url navigate to Reset Cookie and then try a video and check if you are still getting the token error.

Once you have got one of the above methods working you can set your Cache expiry time to 100 (min.). This will fetch new cookies at that interval. I think the session cookie are valid for 2 hrs.

Troubleshooting: General

Restarting PMS can work wonders too in fixing issues and shoo away the ghosts of Plex
Some simple troubleshooting steps that might be useful.

Under Options > Clear Cache (can solve issues if a bad or old copy of a webpage is in memory)
Under Options > Reset Cookies (can solve bad/old cookie values that might be in memory)
If using a browser Clear browser cache or you can use the Inspect tool (Chrome) and Disable cache which works great after performing the first 2 options.
Restarting PMS can solve issues with variables in memory, including cache and cookies.

This is only recommended if the plugin never worked (could be due to a faulty install) and if the above does not solve then the following steps are to perform a fresh install. Save your Bookmarks via Options > Tools before doing so. You will lose your Recent Watchlist.

Via WebTool > Unistall & Install
If you dont have WebTools. Use Factory Reset under Options which will clear all stored variables (including Bookmarks, Recent, and other/all settings). Delete the FMoviesPlus.bundle from your Plex plugins folder. Download a new copy and install.

Channel not responding

• This error can occur when using the Plex-Web client for a variety of reasons. The timeout for Plex-web client is set by Plex for 20 seconds which is not enough to make certain requests to websites which might need consecutive requests to retrieve a page/video. If the process is not completed within its timeout then you might see this error. This error can also occur when the site has changed its formatting of the webpage served and the channel plugin code cannot cope up with the changes. This error can also happen due to Plex-web caching an incorrect previous response in the browser cache.
  => Give it a few seconds and try again.

I have been running plex on a DS1515+ for some time but not long ago I keep getting this error message.

to get me by I started running PMS on my computer and it is working fine.

Well... nothing wrong with the permissions, of course.
Nothing has changed except an update to PMS.
I stop PMS and restart it and I can delete from the client again until the next time...

Unable to delete file - Please check your permissions...

Testing Plex on Android Auto. but it always crashes, when i choose my music library. Just with a smaller playlist, it works after a long waiting period.
any one else expirencing this unstabilitiy issues?

I believe the plex updated on Nov 13th. Since then all show quit at random times. It loses it place also. I have to totally back out of plex and reload to resume where it crashed. All other player are working fine.(Roku, Xbox One ). Now on the nvidia Shield tv if I uninstall the updates it works perfect again. So something changed in the last update. Any thoughts? Also my Nividia Shield is on its newest update.
