Windows Reverse Proxy for NAT Traversal?

$
0
0

My Plex server is behind Carrier Grade NAT so direct connections are not (easily) possible. I have a cheap Windows 10 VPS and I've been told I can setup a reverse proxy to allow direct connections from outside my network. That is very good news except I can't seem to find much help getting it setup.

Is there a tutorial or guide of some sort out there? Will the fine folks at Plex build this ability into Plex Server at some point similar to how Google implements its Chrome Remote Desktop which penetrates NAT quite well?

Xbox one new app is trash!

Ok this interface is horrible, absolutely horrible, I have 2 tv libraries, one for dvr recordings and one for other shows, playlists are gone, i mean i cant even use the old one anymore though it shows i can download it, Xbox immediately says it needs updated and updates and puts the old one back into app ready to install.

I've always had good things to say about Plex, but unfortunately I have to launch a HUGE complaint here, the app is trash remove it now or let me use the old one

Thanks for rendering my Xbox useless for Plex, back to roku, I better not see this crap app on there!

This is my current build when running Plex to my Roku Premiere+ via ethernet while trying to watch 1080p mkv files. My internet speeds are 100/100.

Whenever I try streaming 1080p files from my PC, I have issues with stuttering and I'm not sure what is the cause of the issue. Some 1080p movies run fine, all other quality files run perfectly fine, but overall 1080p is the only quality that gives me trouble.

Does anyone know what the cause of this could be? If it's my build, could you please recommend me a better alternative? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

More information: I've checked my transcoder speed, and it stays below 1 for the most part, although it seems my CPU should be able to handle the stream just fine. Not sure what's going on.

Seeking on F6400 for mpeg2 .ts source jumps too far, for many versions now

On my F6400, the plex app works great with one exception, seeking when source material is mpeg2 .ts. The same files seek fine on my OSX machine with Plex Media Player. A 30 second skip forward will jump several minutes and the same for skipping back. An absolute seek using the progress bar will jump most of the show when clicking at about 10 to 15%. The distance always seem grossly exaggerated compared to the request. Seeking works just fine for mp4 source material. Any ideas?

I already posted this issue in the From the Devs Reply Thread which I think was the wrong place. I would delete it there but cannot figure out how to do so. Sorry.

So all new versions of Plex can’t shuffle a playlist?

I was hoping this version wouldn’t do this, but it does the same thing as the 2.x PMP. Shuffling a music playlist just plays a couple of artists in the A’s. Continually. Kind of sucks. And I’m not the first to report the problem at least for PMP and we got no response. Maybe @Moussa can help?

4K on Apple TV 5. Gen

Hi,
I can not play my 4K movies directly, my plex server always uses transcoding. Is an update planned for that? The tvOS.xml fix does not work, it uses the transcoded instead of playing the movies directly...

Samsung 2017 Tizen 3.0 Clock Wrong

I have a 2017 Samsung UE49M5600AK TV running it's latest firmware (1144) and Tizen 3.0 with Plex 3.10. (3.8.0)

The Clock on the TV is set to Auto which gives the correct time (10:27am).
For some reason the Plex App has the Clock at 1:53am!

There are no longer any time settings in the Plex App. Changing the TV time to manual and moving it forward 8 hours makes no difference to the clock in Plex.

Where is Plex getting it's time from? How can I change it?

Audiobooks (Audible) metadata agent

2017.07.23.01 - Major Revisions
2017.09.26.01 - Minor Revisions - URL change at audible.com broken things.
2017.10.29.01 - Major Revisions - Major rewrite of the audible.com pages required updates to be made.

Metadata agent for Audiobooks stored in a music library. Now available in the Unsupported App Store!

This agent scrapes from Audible.com. It uses the Album Artist as the books Author and uses the Album Title as the Book Title. All audio files will need to be tagged correctly in order for this thing to do it's job. You can manually search for each book if you don't have them tagged ahead of time.

Download: https://github.com/macr0dev/Audiobooks.bundle/archive/master.zip
Source: https://github.com/macr0dev/Audiobooks.bundle

Metadata supplied:

Full Title
Author (as Artist)
Book/Album Cover (as Poster)
Release Date (audiobook, not print or e-book)
Production Studio (as Record Label)
Publisher's Summary (as Review)
Series Title (if exists)
Narrator(s) (as Genre Tag)
Genres (as Genre Tag)

Library Creation Options:

Create a BASIC MUSIC LIBRARY (not a premium Plex muisc library)

DO NOT check 'Use Embedded Tags'

DO check 'Store Track Progress'

Agent - Select Audiobooks

Agent Congiration Options:

If you're in the US and want to scrape from Audible.com - you're all set!
If you're NOT in the US, or just want more flexibility with your searches you have options.

Manually Select Audible Site:
This option allows you to manually select which site you're going to scrape. If this is not checked, the language you selected for
the library, or the language selected for a manual match will be used to select which site to scrape from.

Select Audible site to use:
This option is ignored if the above box is not checked.

Tips for greatest success:

Set "Album" tag in audio file as the book title
Set "Artist" tag in audio file as the book author
None of the other tags really matter for searching and matching.
Manual 'match' will use the Author/Artist field if it's present, but you cannot enter it manually. Only the title.
Make sure all the tracks have the same artist and album.
Store each in a folder

Notes:

-Title data in parens () such as (Unabridged) is automatically removed before search. I've found this improves the results and matching.

-Currently, I don't have a great source for author data. What populates now (if any) is being done automatically from last.fm. You're welcome to go add some data there. This was kind of a happy accident.

-The first two genre tags show up in the top right when viewing the album/book. Genre tags are listed in the following order: Series [if exists], Narrator(s), Genre.

-You can filter by the various tags that are added to each book. Be it author, series, narrator, etc.

I updated my Plex app on my XBox One and XBox One X. Now i only get movies from one folder from one server. I do not see a way to switch servers, and cannot find videos that I know exist. I tried searching for that video and it was not found.

How do i switch folders and switch servers in the new app?

Remote Access Using Mobile Hotspot

$
0
0

Let me start this out by saying I know how to use computers, but not how to code them or anything beyond what would be considered novice at best.

Before I go into my problem I'm using a MacBook Pro with the latest version of Plex and I'm connected through a mobile hotspot, I don't use a normal wi-fi router.

Now, I just signed up for Plex today when I set up my movie library and attempted to share it with a friend. I went through my settings and enabled remote access and moved on with my life. When I was trying to make sure my friend could access it on their AppleTV they said they couldn't find the shared library. Naturally thinking this was an AppleTV problem I scoured the internet looking for a solution. Randomly I went to my settings and saw that my remote access isn't available. Based upon what I read in the instructions, I'm thinking that it has to do with the fact that I don't use a normal wi-fi router for the internet in my house. I get an unlimited data LTE Samsung S5 through work and just use the mobile hotspot for my internet.

So my questions is, what do I need to do to get Plex to let me enable remote access just using my phone's hotspot? I read stuff about static IP's and all that, but I have to be honest, although I feel myself to be generally computer literate, you might as well be giving me verbal instructions to build a nuclear submarine using only a hammer and scotch tape.

Any suggestions?

"Select" Voice Command Glitch?

Since the last update I can't use the voice command "xbox select". Everytime I say "xbox select" it acts like I said "go back". All other commands work flawlessly. I've gone through the Kinect microphone setup several times to no avail.
I checked online for people with the same issue or reference to it not working.
Was this ability removed or is it a bug?

TLDR:
image

Who thought it would be a great idea to build the navigation like that?
Pressing "up" on a group for getting to your groups? This is so weird, like the prior version was a real hassle or something.
Movies now take a billion years to start. Changing quality, audio, subtitle can now only be done when the movie is already running.
On the old version, you were able to see the settings in which the movie will run. Now I always have to check this when I start a movie.....BY STARTING THE MOVIE.

The rest of the design is......meh. I could have styled this for you for free, no need to pay for your designers anymore.
App all in a sudden runs on 720p (wat?).....switching tabs messes up the refreshment of the main content video (my animes suddenly pop up on the music tab?!).

I really hate it when companys totally overthrow a perfect product because of: "Oh we have to be totally ground breaking now by changing everything." This is on the same level like the missing Start button on Windows 8.
What was the problem with the old system? There are no new amazing features which would have justified this.
This just seems like a bad prank UI designers do.

Plex e-Reader, PDF Support?

I've seen a couple of posts on this same subject from 2014 (this one was rather prominent: https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/56331), and I wanted to put this out there again and see if there's still significant community interest. Hopefully there is, and we can keep a bug in the dev's ears.

I would love for Plex to support libraries of books, comic books, and documents in common formats (maybe even docx, xls, and such). The consistent interface across mobile platforms could make it a fantastic e-reading platform for my family, and it would be an easy way to backup and view the vast library of sheet music my pianist mother-in-law has. A few other services, such as Emby, already do this to some extent.

Does anyone know if there are any plans in the works for anything like this? I love Plex and am a happy Plex Pass subscriber, but this still feels like a gaping hole in the service to me.

TV Shows batch/multiple re-matching

My TV shows are in folders named like this

South.Park.s01_WEB-DL.720p.x264
South.Park.s02_WEB-DL.720p.x264
South.Park.s03_WEB-DL.720p.x264

Basically, ShowName.Season_Source.Resolution.Codec

They're sorted in folders like Anime, Comedy, Animation, Drama....the likes.

\MEDIASERVER2\hive_tv-shows_animation\South.Park.s01_WEB-DL.720p.x264\south.park.s01e01.web-dl.720p.x264-ctrlhd.mkv
\MEDIASERVER2\hive_tv-shows_animation\South.Park.s02_WEB-DL.720p.x264\south.park.s02e01.web-dl.720p.x264-ctrlhd.mkv

Having read the naming convention guide, I can see how Plex gets a little confused. Is there a way to teach Plex my "logic" and naming convention? Frankly, I really really dont want to rename thousands of folders and tens of thousands of files.

Plex scans all my folders and matches one season per show correctly (it's always a random season, like 17 or 8, not season 1). All other seasons stay unmatched, I can manually match every single season but that's not feasible.
I can select all unmatched seasons from a show but I cant batch-match them - e.g. telling Plex all of this is "South Park", now use the season numbering to match everything within "South Park". Or even better, drag and drop all manually selected folders/seasons that Plex didnt match onto the correctly matched show/season....

Or does anyone know of any other way to efficiently match based on my structure?

Thanks

Plex DVR no longer works - HDHomeRun Connect no DVR functionality, audio only on web

Windows 10 Plex Server 1.9.6.4385
2x HDHome Run Connects

My issue is that my Plex DVR will no longer record anything at all. Plex Web sessions on all devices have audio but no video. If I manually start a DVR recording, the HDHomerun app will not show my Plex Server as a locked tuner IP.

I recently upgrade my HDhomeruns to version 2017930. My last Plex DVR recording was the same day, prior to my upgrade. I am on auto-update from Plex and do not know exactly when the server was updated. I have Beta as my update channel and have a Plex pass.

I have made some recent changes to my server, but they were all prior to this issue. I moved the Plex appdata folder and the transcode folder to a brand new disk about a month ago. This made no change.

My trouble shooting so far has been restarting everything, reinstalling the HDHomerun Firmware (same version, 2017930) . I also deleted all of the legacy "Plex Media Server" folder on the new drive as well because it doesn't take much time for it to be rebuilt.

In my tuner logs, I see:
DEBUG - [I] file_tuner::get_stream_file. File C:\Program Files (x86)\Plex\Plex Media Server\Resources\Tuner\Private\devices\dvb\file\drv_file.ini does not exist
and
DEBUG - [I] BDA: DeviceGetListEx_impl. Skipped Silicondust virtual BDA driver

I changed the BDA options in the HDHomerun setup program through all of the options with no luck. I then uninstalled the HDHomeRun Setup program entirely.

I'm at a loss and really want to record the World Series game tonight.

Thanks for your time and help.

Odd issue not scanning music library

$

I have multiple libraries ... movies, documentaries, etc. All of them are scanning fine automatically when changes/additions are made. However, for some reason my music libraries are not scanning automatically or manually anymore. It was working fine for a very long time until I recently noticed it. The error message I'm getting is:

Internet Required
This server cannot reach the Internet. Please verify connectivity and try again.

Well I know not only is the internet connected to the box, but Plex is also successfully using the internet to stream internally and externally for movies, TV, etc.

Hopefully this is an easy fix?
As always, thank you for tips/suggestions
