Once again my Plex sever is saying Not available outside your network. I have tried to fix the problem, but I am stumped again.

Plex is very nice when it works, but when there are problems; Plex can be very frustrating.

I recently shared content of my account with friends, but I soon realized they shared their account with many other people.

If I put up a filter by IP,  it puts a limit at Plex services. (dynamic ip for smartphone, tablet etc ...)

So it would be interesting to implement a new feature:

"devices limit per user account on Multi-User features"

if you have a REMUX 1080p MKV with bitrate of 40mbps does it make a difference in cpu load when you transcode to 720p 4mbps or to 1080p 10mbps or to 1080p 20mbps ?

lets say cpu load is 100% when transcoding to 20mbps is it gonna be 50% load when you transcode to 10mbps ?

are they all equal to cpu load and the different is only in upload output ?

Just wondering if there is active work being done with Google on integrating Google home with Android TV or Nvidia shield?
If there is, are there and projected release dates or an official discussion to check progress?
I'm very eager to tell Google home to play a show or movie on the TV and have it pull from Plex also instead of just YouTube.

I've been receiving an error which stops video playback on my Plex client on my Roku 4 Ultra and will not let me resume playback unless I restart the Roku and my PMS, and then, I can only start playback from the begining of the media file. I cannot resume playback from where the playback left off.

Error message from the Plex client on Roku states: "Unknown Network Error Playback has stopped due to multiple playback errors. Please check your connection and try again." And occurs anywhere from 35 to 55 minutes into playing a video file. I've not had the error occur any sooner than 35 minutes into playback of any file.

My Plex Media Server environment is setup as follows:

PMS running:
Plex Media Server 1.8.1.4139
Windows 10, v1703 (OS Build 15063.540)
Intel 6th Gen Skylake i7 6700HQ CPU @ 2.6GHz
32GB DDR4 @ 2666MHz

There are no events logged in the Windows event logs for application/system/security for this error on the PMS side.

I've captured the moment that the error occurs via PMS Verbose logging, and enabling the Plex Client debug logging, and by using the 'Plex for Roku Launcher'.

For a limited number of movies I have extras.
Once upon a time for a movie my extras worked (cannot remember which movie) - however except for that vague memory I have never been able to get any of the extra to work (I have done Plex dance several times with no luck).

I hope there is something obvious in my filenaming that people can spot and say: "fool that's why it is not working!".

Title says it all. Since upgrading to 1.7.6 (skipped 1.7.5) plex has been crashing regularly. At least once or twice a day. I am not sure exactly when or what is causing it, but the unreliability is a major pain. Looking in task manager, the dlna service often seems to be stuck running, but I dont know if thats the cause or what. I have to shut it down from task manager before restarting plex or I cant access plex after restarting.

When listen to music on my phone, playback occasionally gets stuck. The only way to fix this is to skip forward/back a song. Seeking does not fix the issue. I have reproduced this issue consistently both while stream and playing locally synced content. Please advise on a fix for this bug.

I just started having this issue. I am on a windows 10 machine and I go to Plex.tv and hit launch, it loads for a couple seconds and then it says for me to sign in again. When i put in my logon info it just spins. I go to the PMS shortcut in my system tray and it lets me in without my login info. No matter where i am accessing from it keeps doing this and all other means of accessing it (iPhone app and TV app) work fine. Please help.

So this has been driving me crazy for hours, but here is my situation. My ISP claims they do not assign private IPs to customers, but when I plugged directly in to my Motorola Surfboard SB6121 Modem, my PC was assigned a 10.x IP Address instead of the 184.x IP shown when I visit whatismyip.com. The only assumption I can make at this point is that my IPS customer service department isn't trained to answer advanced questions, and I am assigned a private IP by my ISP.

Now, that aside, does anyone have any suggestions of where to start for making remote access work when forced behind a double NAT?

This happened with the last two updates (currently on 1.8.1.4139). After updating when the script tries to restart plex, I get the error message: "start: Unknown job: plexmediaserver"

Going to http://127.0.0.1:32400/web/index.html produces a 404 error.

The 1st time this happened I wasted several hours trying to get it to work, and then it randomly started working even though the start plexmediaserver error still persisted.

This time, I just ignored it. Plex is running if I do ps aux. Plex clients (FireTV stick, Android) connect to it just fine and play movies, but I still can't log in to web interface.

Any ideas?

From the time i paid for a lifetime subscription i have lost being able to connect to my plex from Apple TV.

I have been putting Music Videos inline with songs and in a global music video folder as instructed, but I can't figure out how to view them. Am I missing something?

Any time I try to play an older video that's in the 4:3 aspect ratio, I'm no longer getting black bars along the left and right sides of the screen. Instead, the Background Artwork remains displayed, almost as if the video is playing over the background art. This only started happening today, and I noticed that my Plex app updated today (Aug. 28). I'm running this on an Nvidia Shield.

Here's an example, using Looney Tunes:

Those should be black bars on the side, not bits of Road Runner, Taz, Wile E. Coyote, et al. It happens with all the 4:3 shows, and it's really distracting.

Is anyone else seeing this behavior? I've tried restarting my Shield, closing Plex from my running apps, etc, but nothing fixes it.

I recently consolidated my movie library from two drives onto a single one. Since the transfer resulted in an array of duplicate files, I opted to find/replace the paths in the database. This worked fine, but now I have two identical paths listed for my library, and if I try to remove the duplicate and save the change, Plex automatically adds it back in immediately after save. Any ideas how to stop Plex from forcing the duplicate?

Everything operates perfectly fine, it's just a bit of a nuisance and I'd prefer to know it's fixed to eliminate the possibility of a conflict in the future.

I am running a plex media server for quite some time now but now I want to take full advantage of my living room's surround sound capabilities. I have a Yamaha RX-V675 Amplifier which supports all the high end audio codecs, via HDMI 1.4. I am currently using a Starstream X4 box and cannot seem to get it to play nicely with my amplifier. I have asked the box manufacturer for help but to no avail. I am way past warranty on this so I don't think they will be helping me nor will I buy anything from them again. I am considering getting a Raspberry PI or something similar, something with Gigabit Ethernet capabilities, as this is the Raspberry Pi's drawback. My internet connection speed is beyond 100 Mbps down so I would like to take advantage of that and also want better throughput for all the LAN connections.

On to my main question:

Is there a minimum and recommended hardware specification for the Plex Media Player software? i.e. Processor speed and count, video card speed and count, RAM etc. I need details

Is there any recommended OS for the Plex Media Player software? I heard people using windows 10 on a intel Nuc works. I wanted to go a bit cheaper route and perhaps not use the resource hog windows. I seen some threads about Fedora Linux, I have never used Linux before, but have been using FreeBSD for a while as it is running my plex media server. Are there any other contenders?

Plex was notifying me of an available update. I clicked 'UPDATE', and now I receive the following error on the Dashboard:

There was an unexpected error loading the dashboard

No media will play at all, however all details within various media libraries seem to be intact.

I am having drama updating to the current version of Plex Server on a WD Passport Pro Wireless.

So far. . .I have reset the device, and gotten the web interface to connect to the Plex Server on the device.

HOWEVER, I cannot CLAIM the server, as the system won't let me save server settings of any sort. It wants me to enter username/password, but just says "problem signing into plex". Kind of infuriating. I am signed in to the account in the upper right corner.

If I click around settings, I can see the three other plex servers on my account (two on my local network, one remote in another place).

I am getting this behavior when I am both connected via wifi directly to the WD passport pro; and also when accessing the device through the main router in the house.

Note: I am not trying to enable remote access, although the server "says" remote - - > As if I am accessing it from a remote location. Technically, I am, since I am using a web interface to the device. But I am on the Passport Pros direct network. . and that is the only means to access the Passport Pro.

Ideas?

I took a look around but couldn't find anything definitive so if you find something please link and sorry for the duplicative post! Since the Kaby Lake NUCs (or i3 variants at least) started to ship recently, I wanted to see if anyone has tested playback of HEVC files, specifically 12bit encodes of 4k videos. Even playback on other NUCs with similar files would help.

The media block for Kaby Lake added hardware decoding for HEVC files encoded in 8bit and 10bit, but not 12bit. I'm curious to see if that lack of hardware decoding means 12bit files will struggle to playback because it dumps everything onto the CPU or if the optimized GPU will be able to help in some capacity even though it can't natively decode 12bit files.

I know right now HEVC + 4k + 12bit is a rare combo, so I might be out of luck. I'm looking to replace my current PMP rig (a 2012 Mac Mini) with a NUC, but was hoping to get some feedback before shelling out a few hundred dollars to possibly run into the same problem. The Mini right now can play back 1080p 12bit HEVC files fine, just not 4k.
