EAC3 5.1 Audio - Fails to Transcode

Been going though my library and a few items (19 to be exact) won't play when attempting to transcode EAC3 5.1 Audio streams. I've followed a few things found on reddit about stopping the server - deleting the codecs folder then restarting but that didn't work. The files just seem to buffer indefinitely. I've seen something about maybe a permissions issue? I don't know where to start exactly - I'm new with docker, had been running Plex on windows for a few years tho.

Performed a stop - restart, played a file that didn't work then exported the logs - this case Arrow S05E02.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

So I read that the wd pr2100 has pixelated or blocky image when using hardware transcoding. I was wondering if anyone that has a qnap can tell me if they have a pixelated image at times when using hardware transcoding? So this would be taking the file and sending it to an ipad or sorts at a lower quality. I really appreciate anyone that can help me out on my purchase. thank you

New Roku firmware seems to cause Plex to crash in the middle of playback

ok so recently I have noticed playback on Roku (the only device I really use) has started to act up, I have set several playlists as I know the play option on a series would stop moving to the next episode after a few.

playlist worked great, I could keep the media streaming all night no issues at all until recently.

1st it started with the stream being hung at 33% and just stalling there forever, a simple pause and play would pick it right back up fine on the exact episode it was stuck on.

now I am noticing sometimes when it gets stuck I am presented with a white glitched screen and a green square or two up at the top corner, nothing has changed about my library, and I updated the rokus and it has not stopped.

both rokus are the ultra rokus and they are completely wired to the router with only cisco gigabit switches in between them and the router.

this started showing up maybe a month ago, anyone else have this issue? any fix?
I tried putting my reserved ip of the PMS in the connection options of the Roku settings, no difference, the PMS is on a machine that is very powerful and my monitoring software is reporting my hard disks are 100% fine, I updated the rokus, no change.

this is really aggravating since I love to have the tv run all night otherwise it goes off and wakes me up, call me crazy but I cant sleep unless its running at low low volume. hasn't been able to make it through a night but once in a month.

The PMS does not appear to be stopping on my machine. aka I don't have to reboot to get it back up (my system is set to auto login due to no run as service option)

Have tested on two different Plex servers and also Plex roku and Plex classic roku please help here

I have a windows 10 system, plex Version 1.8.1.4139 and movies don't play anymore. everything appears to be connected servers connected and when i play it just spins circles. also it looks like new movies are not being updated in the directory. I've never had any issues and played movies for years until now, any help is greatly appreciated, thank you.

Is plex Kodi going to be free or plex pass only or other?

As we all know its in bets under plex pass being bug fixed and tweaked but iam unaware of its future status.

Is it going to be usable by anyone who already bought plex..plexpass only or a separate buy?

Seeing as how this is being made for a open source platform then idea of paying for it seems rather a bad idea.

Thoughts info?

No sound on Roku Premiere+ unless Roku restarted

Recently, after I turn on my entertainment system, launch Plex and start playing a video, the video will play, but there is no sound. I must restart my Roku and the sound then returns with no problems. There is sound effects like scrolling sounds and the background show music bed, but when a show is played there is no audio unless the Roku is rebooted.

I don't have issues with any other app. Just Plex. There are no updates available for my Roku. It is up to date.

I'm running Plex Media Server on a Windows 10 box. Version 1.8.0.4109.

So, i had a tv show where the episodes were numbered wrong.

I fixed the episode naming so the names show up correctly, but there are now many episodes with thumbnails correspond to the wrong episode.

How do I fix them?

WD Passport Wireless Pro - New version available? Mine fails to update...

Hi,

My Passport Wireless Pro shows on the admin console that there is a new version for Plex Server, namely 1.8.1.4139-c789b3fbb. (no new version is presented as available on the Plex admin site). I currently have version 1.7.5.4035-313f93718. When I try to update it through the admin console of WD, it fails with this error:
Plex installation was not successful. (370021).

I don't find anything on WD support site about this error (opened a query there already). So, don't know the root cause of the error. Could it be that the download failed? How can I force it to download again? I am suspecting that it is using a cache as when I try to run the update, it immediately fails, while the first time it took a while to download.

Also, the new version doesn't appear on plex site as a download for Wireless Pro, but only for other WD devices. Is this new version not supported on the wireless pro? Does it require manual installation?

HELP! Why do some episodes upload? How long should it take for an episode to upload?

Hi - I'm running a Macbook Pro with Plex Pass. I'm a new user. For single movie files, Plex is working perfect. But for TV shows, I'm getting very inconsistent results. I loaded 10 episodes of a show into a directory this morning and this evening, only one episode was available on my Plex Player. This has happened with a number of different shows. For another show, I had 26 episodes in my folder on the server and only 25 episodes will appear on the player after 2 days.

And on one show - the Monkees - Plex continues to name the first 15 episodes with the titles of the first 15 episodes of Freaks and Geeks for a reason I cannot fathom (after repeated tries and double checking fixes of meta data and naming conventions of the files). So I fixed that my manually changing each episode name on the Plex software.

There also doesn't seem to be a way to see the progress / timing of when things are being uploaded. Any help to any of these questions would be great. I'm a little disappointed there isn't a straightforward way to get tech support for this amazing service.

Is there a way to turn off using the Plex TV Database and just go with manual naming?

Hi - if Plex keeps returning mis-named TV show episodes for me, is there a way the manual naming I have done can be prioritized over the automatically selected episode names from the database?

Plex Media Server Hardware Transcoding on Synology DS216+II

Please keep in mind that HW Transcoding with Plex Media Server ("PMS") is still in an experimental stage and requires a Plex Pass.
I did manage to do get HW Transcoding working on my new Synology DS216+II by doing to following. The first solution is the "safe" solution and requires no knowledge of SSH at all. The second solution requires some knowledge of SSH, and this solution will be implemented by Plex in the next release

Solution 1 (no SSH knowledge required)
1. Stop your current PMS
2. Download the PlexMediaServer build 1.8.1.4140 - Hardware Transcoding Preview 4 for Synogly from this link

3. Install downloaded PMS. If you current PMS is higher than 1.8.1 you need to remove your current PMS installation first.
4. Start the new installed PMS
5. Start Plex and goto Server -> Transcode and turn on the hardware acceleration option.
6. Go to Control Panel -> Task Scheduler
7. Create -> Triggered Task -> User-defined script
8. In General, Task: "Allow transcoder hardware access", User: root, Event: Boot-up, Check Enabled
9. In Task settings, run command:

     if [ -d /dev/dri ]; then
           chgrp video /dev/dri -R
           chmod 755 /dev/dri
           chmod 666 /dev/dri/*
     fi

10 . Restart PMS and HW Transcoding should be enabled on your Synology DS216+II

Solution 2 (requires SSH knowledge)
1. Stop your current PMS
2. Download the PlexMediaServer build 1.8.1.4140 - Hardware Transcoding Preview 4 for Synogly from this link

3. Install downloaded PMS. If you current PMS is higher than 1.8.1 you need to remove your current PMS installation first.

5. Start Plex and goto Server -> Transcode and turn on the hardware acceleration option.
6. Open an SSH terminal session and modify the following file

file: /lib/udev/rules.d/60-fix-plex-hw-transcoding.rules
Currently: SUBSYSTEM=="dvb", GROUP="video"
Replace with: SUBSYSTEM=="drm", GROUP="video", MODE="0660"

7.Restart PMS and HW Transcoding should be enabled on your Synology DS216+II

Plex is investigating a solution to make the PMS with hardware decoding working out-of-the-box on a Synology NAS. The issue is caused on how Synology configured the access the transcoder device on the NAS. Solution 2 will be implemented in the next PMS release with hardware transcoding.

Dolby Atmos Coming to Xbox One

I just saw this announcement today, but anyone know if these means anything for us Plex users? I believe the Dolby Atmos reference is related to the Blu-ray player, but would adding Dolby Atmos allow direct play rather than transcoding? If I'm not mistaken, the Plex app on Xbox One will currently play Atmos audio, but it requires transcoding. Direct play would be preferable though of course, so hoping this latest announcement will give us direct play.

Shield TV Player XML Profile

I was very annoyed to find after like a year of using Plex + Nvidia SHield TV that a lot of my higher quality movies were being transcoded on the fly. I found through debugging logs this is because the SHield is being matched against the generic Android.xml. I adapted it and using options from other places to add in direct play support for pretty much everything. let me know your thoughts. File goes into /var/lib/plexmediaserver/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server on my Fedora 25 server. Name it Shield.xml. I'm not 100% certain all of these formats are supported but so far it works pretty well and I've noticed a HUGE difference in the quality of the picture. Especially with items like HEVC 10bit color.
