Roku Ultra seems unstable for Plex content. DO NOT BUY this flawed device!!

I posted this over in the Roku forums but I thought I should warn Plex users as well as the main problem is related to playing some Plex videos.

I have had my Ultra for a little over 24 hours and I have had to reboot it 4 times while Playing Plex content. I have moved it to a secondary position and moved one of my Roku 3s back as the primary Roku in my system.

I am regretting my decision to violate my general rules and buy the Roku Ultra early in its existence before the bugs get worked out. It appears that Roku has learned little from the Roku 4 fiasco.

I resisted the impulse to buy a Roku 4 and I have never regretted that decision as I also avoided the Roku 4 problems that many users experienced but I am now in the middle fo the Roku Ultra problem tree.

It should be noted that after I moved my Roku 3 back the videos that caused problems work fine.

I have no desire to perform Roku's troubleshooting for them so I will simply wait to see if they are able to fix their problems. I worked with them for over a year trying to fix the Roku XS's problems but they proved incompetent and that fix ended up being a replacement with a Roku 3.

I am not going to return my Ultra at this time as the effort involved in the return is simply not worth it and the fact that I bought it using a gift card complicates matters.

I have been a mostly a Roku defender in the past but that has ended. Releasing a product this badly flawed is, at best, an indication of vast incompetence. Plex is a primary application on the Roku platform but it looks like Roku tested it very little. Rather they concentrated on making unnecessary socalled improvements, like changing what the "*" button does during playback and stupidly moving the nearly useless voice search button to a location where users of earlier remotes will press it when trying to press play or OK.

My recommendation to possible purchasers is buy a Roku 3. The Ultra is NOT better, it is flawed and simply different in many bad ways.

I will admit that the videos that cause problems are not either perfect or pristine. They are videos I have had for a long time and are at low resolution and have a few glitches in them BUT Plex plays them fine on my Roku 3s and my Roku 1 but the Roku Ultra plays them too fast or without sound or it other ways just screwy (That is the technical term I believe) and then the Ultra either reboots or just hangs.

The Ultra is connected wired if that matters.

Reliability is the most important factor in a streaming device for me and the Roku Ultra is currently failing badly in that primary criteria.
