I've been running my PMS for little over a month now. Been using kodi for years but I wanted to try out the flexibility of plex. I enjoyed it so much I've pretty much switched.
I'm quite a seasoned linux user and know my way around pfsense.
The server has been running smooth since I started it. No playback issues what so ever. Then I get a message from my mom saying playback any videos anymore and that she gets a error message.
I started doing some troubleshooting and using my android phone and plex app remotely I cannot playback any of my videos. I get "An error occurred while attempting to play this video" Hm ok I thought and connected to my wifi and fired up a video and lo and behold everything works flawlessly. Original, transcoded you name it. Disconnect wifi again, error still there.
Jump on the forums, cant find anything about this certain issue really. Figured I'd start with downgrading the server see if that solves it.
No it didn't. Strange..
Fired up the old and updated docker image I set up originally and turned on AP-mode on my phone, connected my laptop to it, fired up the web browser and pointed to the server. Everything works. Original and transcoding.
Hm ok whats wrong here..
Back to plex android app I enabled "use android media player" and abakadabra video playback works again.
Ok. So where do I put this issue?
My mom is using a chromecast and a ipad to cast. I used an android phone.
I don't have a iOS device or a chromecast to test with so I cannot go any deeper there atm.
To me this points to an issue with the android plex app. Since I cannot test other platforms I cannot comment on those.
All I know is that playing the media locally with my plex app on android works flawlessly. Remotely not at all with the standard PMP video player.
I've forwarded a single port for PMS and that has been enough since I started using it with all forms of playback working fine.
Also. My library consists entirely of .mkv files.
I wanted to add full logs but the logs contains too much sensitive information I do not wish to share.
So instead I opted to share the part of the Android plex app log with the error in question.
