Clean up photo upload (Temp location) on Nvidia shield.

I look looking for a quick solution to clean up the temp folder that the Photo upload uses before it uploads the files to the final destination. I have been uploading my concert videos which are about 1.2GB a piece. I can cleanly see that my internal storage is growing with each file that gets upload. Couple of questions here.

  1. Can I clean up this location quickly with one of the options within Plex?
  2. Can I see these files and delete them within ES file Explorer?
  3. Will these get cleaned up in the Scheduled Tasks?
  4. Can I change the location of this folder to Adaptive Storage or External Storage?
  5. Why can't these files go to the 64GB drive instead of the 16GB internal storage?

I have a 64GB USB drive added for Adaptive Storage and a 256 SSD drive for External. With the new build, I have pushed my (Plex Meta Data) to the external drive.

Problem: Subtitles always transcoding (how to direct stream SRTs to Android?)

$

As the title states, whenever I stream something from my PC to my Android phone, if I turn on the subtitles Plex will transcode, which results in high cpu usage and a toast message on the Android saying something like "server not fast enough".
I google and tried everything I could find for days and the only thing I have left is to ask, hoping for some "personalized" help.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Subtitles stopped coming

Hello the plex forum

i have a issue regarding subtitles. I've been using plex for some time now. with the server on my desktop PC running windows 10. never ever been a problem with it. the now recently it has stopped adding subtitles to my movies and tv-shows. i have not changed anything in my agents or anything. is there anyone out there that can help me with my problem. i would be extremely happy.

and i have tried adding a .srt file to a folder and plex does pick that up. but i dont want to do that every single time i add new stuff to my library. i want it to do that by itself.

but yeah you get the picture i hope.

Chromecast and Subtitles

Hello, I'm having issues playing some files with Chromecast Ultra. The issue is with subtitles, if I play some files WITH subtitles it keeps waiting to cast and after a while the error says it can't cast it.
If I play the same file without the subtitles it plays without a problem.

What can I do? I've already changed settings for subtitles (burn always, auto and as picture) on my mobile app before casting to chromecast...

I'm currently using:
Nvidia shield as server with version: 6.17.0.4824 (b2e10411)
OnePlus Phone running Android 8.0 with Plex version 6.17.0.4824

Attached the logs. The subtitle file is the one downloaded from Agent automatically. It's an SRT file.

NVidia Shield: SRT subtitles causing "burn subtitles" to activate when audio is also transcoded

Hi all,

I'd just written a lengthy post wondering why some media was transcoding instead of direct-streaming when there seemed to be no good reason why it should - when I realized that in my Tautulli logs it noted that the subtitles were being burned (despite being .srt subs, not an image format.)

"But that can't be," I thought to myself, "because some of my media direct plays just fine, and I always have subtitles enabled!" After some more digging through logs, I realized that this is only happening on media that has EAC3 audio streams, which incurs an audio transcode (since my sound bar is connected via optical audio, which doesn't support EAC3.) When it's AC3? Plays fine. DCA? Plays fine.

This seems like a bug! Are others experiencing the same? Can we expect a fix?

Thanks much!

How to setup nginx as a reverse proxy for plex?

$

I spend quite some time to figure out how nginx needs to be configured to run a https vhost on port 443 and do a proper reverse proxying to my docker instance bound to localport:32400. Proxy_pass sends the data to http://localhost:32400.

When the container is bound to localhost:32400, even the claim process is not working (which makes sense if the reverse proxy settings are wrong and no network connection can be established).

If I add a Custom Access Url, the containerized Plex intance is not reachable anymore (which makes sense because the server is not claimed?)

Do I need to add the ssl-certificate to Plex? Actualy, I didn't :)
Do I need to enforce secure connections, even though ssl terminates at the reverse proxy?
When do i need to add the Custom Access URL?

I want secure connections only on the instance.

Every input is welcome!

Flex TV: Google Assistant/IFTTT + Plex Integration (with support for Sonarr, Couch, Sick, etc.)

Flex TV. is a web application that interfaces between google Assistant and Plex to allow you to control playback of media using Actions for Google or IFTTT.

Additionally, it interfaces with the API's for Sonarr, Radarr, Couchpotato, Sickbeard, and Sickrage.

It also has customizeable webhooks, so you can basically control anything that has an open API with your voice. If you can send data to a URL to do a thing, you can program it in Flex TV.

Interested? Check out the Wiki to get started.

Don't feel like setting up a webserver? No worries - I'm hosting Flex TV as a service here: https://app.phlexchat.com

You'll also need the Cast plugin installed:

PlexKodiConnect (PKC)

Combine the best frontend media player Kodi with the best multimedia backend server Plex

PKC combines the best of Kodi - ultra smooth navigation, beautiful and highly customizable user interfaces and playback of any file under the sun - and the Plex Media Server.

Have a look at some screenshots to see what's possible.

Update Your PKC Repo to Receive Updates!

Unfortunately, the PKC Kodi repository had to move because it stopped working (thanks https://bintray.com). If you installed PKC before December 15, 2017, you need to MANUALLY update the repo once.

Content

Download and Installation

Install PKC via the PlexKodiConnect Kodi repository download button just below (do NOT use the standard GitHub download!). See the github wiki installation manual for a detailed guide. Please use the stable version except if you really know what you're doing. Kodi will update PKC automatically.

Stable version Beta version
stable version beta version

What does PKC do?

PKC synchronizes your media from your Plex server to the native Kodi database. Hence:

  • Use virtually any other Kodi add-on
  • Use any Kodi skin, completely customize Kodi's look
  • Browse your media at full speed (cached artwork)
  • Automatically get additional artwork (more than Plex offers)
  • Enjoy Plex features using the Kodi interface

Warning

Use at your own risk! This plugin assumes that you manage all your videos with Plex (and none with Kodi). You might lose data already stored in the Kodi video and music databases as this plugin directly changes them. Don't worry if you want Plex to manage all your media (like you should ;-)).

Some people argue that PKC is 'hacky' because of the way it directly accesses the Kodi database. See here for a more thorough discussion.

Plex not doing hardware transcoding when it is capable

$

First a bit of background, I have a passively cooled Plex server with a quad core Celeron. It can't keep up with software transcoding at 1080p.
Then I heard about NVENC, so without doing any proper research whatsoever I went out and bought a cheap passively cooled GT710.

After purchasing I discovered that most of the internet says this card is incapable of hardware transcoding, however I found two posts on these forums reporting their successful results using this card, so I gave it a go anyway.

Using Open PHT and configuring it to force transcoding I did in fact get hardware accelerated 1080p HVEC transcoding to 1080p H.264 with only 25% CPU usage.

Problem is... I can only do this in Open PHT, every other client seems to use software transcoding.

Any idea what is happening here?

Also occasionally I hear comments about headless servers not being able to use hardware accelerated conversion, is there any truth to this? I was RDP'd to the server when doing this test, but it is headless.

Play Version always plays the default version on Plex for IOS

I have two different versions of the same movie and when I select a different version to play, chromecast always plays the default version and completely ignores the version I selected on the IOS App. Does any one have a workaround for this or can someone help me on how to report this bug? I am on latest version of everything as of today.

Playback on chromecast stutters after 15~20 minutes. Plays fine again after stopping and restarting

As described in the title, every time I stream a video to my chromecast it works perfectly, until after a minute or 20 it starts to stutter / buffer really badly. Pausing it doesn't help, but stopping the stream and starting it again will enable the chromecast to play again for about 20 minutes.

The issue started about a month ago and during the years before I've never seen this before.

Some more information: I have subtitles enabled, video + audio are direct stream according to the web interface, CPU usage on server is next to nothing. The problem also doesn't occur when playing video in my browser.

Does anybody have any idea what I can do to solve this issue?

Still NOT FIXED

How is this possible that the endless buffering issue on xbox one player is still not resolved? I bought an apple tv last week with 0 issues, while i prefer to take that $250+ and invest in plex pass and continue to use it on my xbox but its been Month's with this issue.

Are the Plex employee's unaware or just don't care?

I don't expect a response from anybody this is just frustrating how they haven't fixed this problem.

There are no items in this library

$

I've been using Plex for years, no issues. I have my files stored on a Synology NAS run Plex on my Windows 10 box. Today I decided to play some shows from my TV Shows category but everything was missing and it says "There are no items in this library". I thought this was strange, I haven't made any changes recently at all. I am able to access the NAS just fine (through Windows Explorer) and play videos. I decided to delete the category then rescan, figured something was up. Welp, I can see Plex going through all of the subdirs, but it still results in "There are no ideam in this library" !! How do I fix this?

Regularly swap media libraries

$

A little backstory: We are moving onto a sailboat soon. Over the past year, I've built up a PMS on an odroid XU4 octo-core device. Currently, my library lives on a 4TB external spinning drive. Due to the motion of the boat, I want to avoid spinning disks and go to SSDs. I don't want to hassle with a RAID as we may be away from sources of new drives for quite some time. Rather than build out a NAS of SSDs, I want to have separate libraries of media on different SSDs. For example, I could have one drive for my movies, one drive for my wife's movies and a third drive for our combined media. This way, if one drive gets corrupted, we don't lose the entire array, just that sub-library.

How will Plex handle swapping out the entire media library on a regular basis? Is there a better way to deal with this type of situation?

Thanks
