Issue with Plex and VPN - Plex losing WAN connection often

$

I use TorGuard VPN. I have set up a static IP and have ports on the VPN servers pointed to my PLEX. Everything is set up correctly on my computer and network for this to work. It doesn't. Plex will NEVER be available outside my local area. Have tested the ports with other apps and they work just fine...but not when I use them in PLEX. This is part 1 of the issue....As this should NOT be the case.. I should be able to use TorGuard VPN with no issues from PLEX. There are even tutorials on how to set up PLEX with it. Done them all.. Had tech support from TorGuard VPN on the phone working with me...still nothing...

So, I got around this by connecting PLEX before I launched the VPN. Thus, PLEX would be on my normal IP address and everything else ran through the VPN. This worked GREAT for a bit over a month. Never had any issues, others could get on my server and watch their movies/shows. Until about a week ago.

Since then, Plex will connect just fine. I start the VPN and all is great. I surf the web, use my ftp, torrent, game server, etc....and all run through the VPN while PLEX stays happily on my local ISP IP address. After a few hours (almost always when I am NOT home) Plex jumps to the VPN IP address and thus no one can connect to the server anymore. Even though (as stated before) I have it set to use a port that IS forwarded to it.

Did something happen with PLEX in the last couple weeks that would make it decide that it wants to switch IP's at random times? I mean, before this started, once I connected Plex to the local ISP IP I could refresh the browser window, even stop then start up the server and it would remain on the local IP. Never had to turn OFF the VPN again. Alas, until now... And now, even getting it to connect to the local IP takes about 3 or 4 minutes of constant refresh window, clicking try again, stopping and starting server, refresh again, and again, etc....

It's become a real hassle to run the server as of this past week. Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated.

OH, and PS: It ALWAYS stays it's looking for updates.

Nvidia Shield as PMS transcoding 4K HEVC 10bit capability

I am considering to buy new device for my Plex Server and my choice was DS918+, but I am interested if I could use the Shield as my server and how many 4K HEVC 10bit files would it be able to transcode. It would save me money if I only bought the Shield, because i wouldnt have to buy chromecast for the TV, but I NEED to be able to transcode 4K HEVC 10bit on my server. I was trying to research it myself but no luck, because there is no info on it's CPU, like there is on Intel's.

Media Management and Clean Up

I recently got a QNAP NAS and moved my collection of movies and TV that I've been gathering for years to it. I have never done anything for media management and it's a mess. Nothing but filenames with matching SRT's where needed and some JPG posters, most of the earlier ones and TV don't have dates in the names. I started working with Plex and realized I had to start cleaning it up, and after searching the forums I tried Tiny Media Manager. After going through the bulk of the several thousand shows and movies, and recreating better libraries in Plex, I had it rescan them, but it doesn't seem to be loading the metadata from the NFO's created by TMM at all, and is going right back to the same results it initially found. It's especially noticeable with movies that were numbered like "01 - Star Wars - The Phantom Meanace" or with files that had dots in the names like "Discovery.Channel-Apollo.13-The.True.Story". Another especially bad section is my entire set of Battlestar Galactica, which is all under one folder with subfolders for the original 1978 series, Galactica 1980, The 2003 miniseries and the main reboot with 4 seasons in subfolders.

Will Plex simply not use the NFO's generated from TMM? Wrong format? Can anyone suggest a better manager to clean up the collection? I haven't found any kind of manager utility in Plex?

Server only available via Relay

I recently swapped out my router to a new Netgear Orbi, and I have now lost remote access as well as direct connect.

This is where I am confused though. The server is running on my PC, and I have 3 Roku's in my house connected to it. If I Disable Remote Access I am completely unable to access my Plex server anywhere on my network. However, if I enable Remote Access I can then access the server, but it is only through relay and not direct connect. To make it even more confusing, even though I have remote access enabled, it says my server is not available outside of my network.

I have tried changing the DNS server in my router to the Google DNS. I completely uninstalled Plex (removed all temp local files, cache files, reg key, everything) and it is still the exact same problem.

I am lost on what else to try. Prior to the router swap it was working 100% with no issues. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Small percentage of files will not pull IMDb metadata

$

I created a brand new Movies library, with the "Plex Movie" agent, and set it to pull all metadata from IMDb (cast list, ratings, plot summary). This worked fine, but I've found that a few of my movies do not retrieve IMDb metadata. When I noticed this on one movie, I wrote a small program to scan the metadata xml files to see if there were other files failing to pull IMDb data.

Here is the full list:

  • Lights Out
  • Kubo and the Two Strings
  • Ouija: Origin of Evil
  • Suicide Squad

Interestingly, I found that another user had the same issue with Suicide Squad (http://forums.plex.tv/discussion/comment/1354255/), so it seems likely that the issue is not with my server setup.

Does anyone know what I can do to figure out what's going on here? I will be happy to post logs if someone can point me to the relevant log files.

Websocket issue when using reverse proxy

Hi guys.

I spent the better of last night getting plex behind a reverse proxy(apache) and cloudflare. Most of the guides at there are simply putting the web panel behind cloudflare, but the requests for media and library content is actually still direct to the pms.

I wanted EVERYTHING to go through cloudflare, and i have now reached this result.

However, the only thing i seem to be unable to sucessfully proxy, are the websocket connections thats used to show me whats happening on the pms(everything under status -> alerts)

I simply get "Unable to listen for events on plex."

Chrome dev tools show the websocket URL as proxied to my domain, but responds with a 401 invalid unauthorized.

"HTTP Authentication failed; no valid credentials available" reported from chrome dev console.

The plex log does not really contain anything useful for this

WebSocket: Request doesn't look like upgrade request (, Keep-Alive)
WARN - Caught a system exception setting up WebSocket, ignoring.

Are the websocket using 32400? 80? 443?

In order for the reverse proxy to work with all traffic from plex, it is unfortunately required to block port 32400 on the pms machine, it is unfortunate that plex for some reason does not honor the custom URLs set in the config, and still attempt to connect through 32400.

Anyone have some insight on this?

Regards

Is it possible to set a default server for an account? Or to have the servers list in a specific order so that the preferred server ends up at the top of the list... and therefore the default server selected initially?

Sort by Bitrate and Resolution broken (PMS)?

Since the last server update, sort by bitrate and resolution doesn't work nearly as well as it did before the update. Before the update, you could actually see the resolutions and bitrates under the title in Grid view...but, now that seems to have disappeared. Did a setting get changed that I can't find?

Plex App on Amazon Fire Stick

So, I have come across a new issue with my plex programme on the amazon fire stick. When I watch films on it, it jitters. Some worse than others.
What I want to know is even though the the fire stick is on my home network, does plex still see it as an external internet device?

I don't have any issues when using my IPhone, or playing direct on a pc, only when I'm using the fire TV stick.
Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks

Library on NAS Not Found

I have a Synology NAS that contains all my media. Unless I map a drive, I Plex Server, on my Windows 10 PC, does not see the NAS. Is there a way to use this without mapping a drive? The problem is Synology is inconsistent in remapping the drive when the system is restarted. Thanks in advance.

Plex not downloading metadata for movies

$

I've been having a problem recently where movies added to Plex will not download metadata properly, the movie appears in the library but has no information or artwork, just the default screengrab. If I completely shut down Plex and kill the Plex Update Service process then restart PMS I can click "Refresh metadata" on the item and it retrieves the metadata properly. This works for about a day until the problem reappears. I've attached my logs, the most recent item I had this problem with was Alien: Resurrection added around 1:55 PM on April 13th.

Constant Buffering on Xbox One

Hi all,

I am getting constant buffering on Xbox One and am at a loss on how to fix it.

I’m running Plex Media Server on Windows 10 64 bit and the connection is USB 3.0 Ethernet adapter into home plug, then home plug other end into BT Home Hub 5. The Xbox is also hard wired to the hub.

I have no issues streaming to other devices.

What can I do to improve the situation?

Thanks

PMS behind Apache Proxy

Where to find config file
I would like to use the web interface of Plex behind a proxy/proxyreverse of my Apache server.

It allows me to use only one port and some restrictions for a lot of web applications.

I used to put this in my apache conf :

<Location /plexmediaserver>
ProxyPass http://localhost:32400/manage
ProxyPassReverse http://localhost:32400/manage
</Location>

But for PMS, I need to configure it to use /plexmediaserver as root web url.

Where can I configure this ? And change the default port in the same way ?

Thanks a lot

Music support.

Recently added my music to Plex. Tautulli doesn't seem to notice it correctly. On the dash board it shows on recently added but stats and history don't show counts for total in library or even being listen to isn't counted. Is this a know problem? How can I help?

Bug Report - can't sign in due to virtual keyboard intersecting with virtual table

So happy to have GearVR support - thanks Plex!

When I try to sign in, I need to hit the space and period buttons. However, the circle "activate" mode of the cursor changes to a half moon look when directly over the outline of the brown virtual table in the sign in page. App looks great but can't get in to see it yet!

I'm using a Galaxy S7 and original GearVR unit. I will try to attach a screenshot in just a moment.
