I just purchased plexpass and was hoping to be able to do the livetv from myth, but there really weren't any good options out there. I wrote a channel to do it. As of now, it just does the LiveTV. It doesn't list the recordings. With some tweaking, I set up a plex libraries to look at the mythtv recordings folder - so i didnt have a need for recordings yet. I'm not a fantastic developer, It's a little dirty and could probably be all done completely within the bundle, instead of the myth side php i used. My setup is ubuntu and separate VMs for plex and myth. HDHomeRun Prime. I have not done any load testing so don't know what the CPU/mem requirements are, but i've been able to do 2 streams on multiple vcpu VMs without any issue.

I have a basic Channel/Plugin built, which does the initial communicating with Myth to get the channels/icons and then calls the php file on the mythserver to initiate the livetv and start streaming through plex. Keep in mind, this is not using the myth streaming/transcoding like I've seen a few people try to do - The Plexserver is accessing the raw video stream just like any standard client does (ie: mythfrontend/kodi) and then based on the plexclient, the plexserver does the transcoding. I didnt think it made sense to transcode once with myth and then another time with plex.

Ya place the bundle in the plugin directory obviously (may have to change permissions to the plex user) and there's a config option when you launch the channel to set the mythtv hostname and/or ip and the categories you want to display. It always displays the "All Channels" and "Channels Recently Watched" category, but you can add things like Sitcom, Movie, anything ya like. It will create a group and only return those listings that have categories which fall within the group

The stream.php file (txt file attached) gets put in the web server root directory (ubuntu:/var/www/html) of the myth server as stream.php. Would need mythweb running of course.

It's not perfect and I see plenty of room for improvement. I don't have much down time, so I don't know if I'm going to be able to get this further than it is, but if someone who is a little smarter than me wants to take it and run with it....it's all yours. I haven't done a huge amount of testing, but It does what i needed it to do both from a pc and my iphone.

Couple things I noticed...
Rewinding and Fast-forwarding is funky. On the phone it works semi well, the web-browser, not so much. I think i have a way to account for it, just didn't have time to do it yet.
Channel Icons are sized weird, but better than nothing
In my environment - for the most part, all the channels are always there. But, for some reason a few disappear. If you go back to the list a minute later - the missing ones show up. They're randomly missing from results from the MythAPI call, so I'll be looking into why Myth is fumbling the results to see if there is a better way to do it.

If I do end up making any updates, i'll post them

MythTV Live Channel playback

Every client must request its own X-Plex-Token and register with plex.tv. This requires a valid Plex account username and password.

Do a HTTP POST request to https://plex.tv/users/sign_in.json (or https://plex.tv/users/sign_in.xml) with:

• user[login] and user[password] form values in the body. For example: user%5Blogin%5D=plexusername&user%5Bpassword%5D=myplexpassword
• HTTP header: X-Plex-Client-Identifier: a unique value for your client
• HTTP header: X-Plex-Product: the name of your client
• HTTP header: X-Plex-Version: the version of your client

Upon success you will get back a JSON (or XML) formatted response that contains a token you can use with other requests to the Plex Media Server. This token must be sent as a HTTP header (X-Plex-Token).

Your registered client will be listed under "Devices" (see attachment).

I have many movies and series, from many different origins.

I can play all of them in Android, iOS, and browser, no problem at all.

I used to play all of them on Chromecast 1 also. But recently I got a Chromecast 2 and now most movies do not play anymore!

Please help!

Are collections within collection possible? For instance, can I make a collection for all my Marvel movies and then within that have collection for all the Ironman movies, Thor movies, etc?

I recently changed my ISP to AT&T from Comcast, and it has caused some stability issues with my FreeNAS Server and subsequently, Plex Media Server. The only reason I bring this up is that AT&T forces use of their Gateway (combined modem/router), which has caused some hiccups on my end, due to my wanting to continue to use my own router. The issues appear to manifest in a number of scenarios, and are not limited to Direct or Remote Play, nor are they limited to one client (Xbox, iOS, Web Player), though they are much more frequent during Remote Play:

• Streams cutting out with error: "Couldn't create the playback session for this item."
• Streams buffering when they shouldn't be, i.e. 1 session running with low stress transcodes and solid connection to internet
• Streams buffering when I am hardwired to the network and have direct play/stream enabled. Before ISP swap, I don't think I had ever seen it buffer when hardwired and in the same network.
• Logs are littered with Networking related entries.
• I receive the error "Your connection to the server is not fast enough to stream this video. Check your network or try a lower quality." Of note is that I receive this error even on 2Mbps HD when my available speeds are significantly adequate. Usually if I get this error, my Plex session locks up on status "Buffering for a few minutes".

A little bit of information about my network configuration. I setup the AT&T Gateway in Passthrough mode, where it passes the IP from the ISP directly to my router. From there, I was able to leave the router largely alone, setup the way it had been before I switched providers. Essentially, The Gateway passes my public IP to my router, acting like a modem, and my router is able to handle DHCP.

I have attached two logs. One is from an Xbox Direct Play/Stream Session that began buffering at 20:40 and 20:41. "Plex Media Server 1.log".

The other two logs are from a session I had running on remote play on iOS. At 18:42, my stream errored out with the "Couldn't create the playback session for this item for Edward's Phone".

I'd be glad to provide any other information, or some better logs if there is something better/more appropriate out there. I'm not sure if it's important, but I do have PlexPy (Now Tautulli) running on my FreeNAS Server as well, though it was running before ISP change and was not causing any issues. Does anyone have any ideas based on the provided Logs and Times of what I should be looking for? My Server's specs are in my signature.

Have 2 iPhones in the family. One of the phone's suddenly don't work with the camera upload anymore.
I have tried creating a new album and re-upload everything but it don't work. The scanning process starts and when the scanner reaches around 45% it stops and just saying "waiting to upload" but nothing happens. This happens on a new album created or on the old one. I have tried to look in the temp folder of my Plex Media Server, but there is nothing. I have tried un-installing the app, re-creating the sync and so on. No luck at all.
The other phone works perfectly each time.

I really hope the Plex can work again. Right now I have setup DS Photo app, just so I got a backup of my pictures.

Can someone help me? I can provide logs if needed.

Die Übertragungsraten an der Fritzbox sind ja (mal von den Geräten der letzten Generation) nicht wirklich gigantisch. Aber vielleicht würde es ja ausreichen, um zumindest einen 1080p Film damit zum Plex Server zu übertragen...

It feels like a number of issues have suddenly converged into one cluster of dysfunction.

Problems:

Currently, (1) the "Sync started" and "Sync finished" notification incessantly alternates while the app is open. Further, (2) the sync screen shows "Updating information / Storage limit reached," when I know it hasn't. Finally, (3) clicking into the "Sync Settings" screen (it's red from the hamburger menu location) and observing the storage space "in use" vs "available" is impossible, because Plex is changing the values non-stop: it'll report "17.5 GB in use | 13.4 GB available," then jump to "30.4 in use | 580.6 MB available," then "18.3 GB in use | 12.6 GB available," then "30.3 in use | 619.5 MB available," etc, etc, etc, and while this is happening, that incessant alternating of sync statuses continues (1). It's driving me nuts. To top it off, (4) PMS CPU usage is very high, especially when opening the iOS app and the sync fiasco starts its dance. This has been non-stop for at least three hours.

The steps (to possible reproduce):

I know for a fact that I had used just over 13 GB of sync storage (music only), leaving about 12 GB free. I initially had allocated 25 GB, but after trying to synchronize 10 unwatched episodes from a season of TV, I realized that the allocation would not be enough and it was also really slow, so I bumped it up to 30.9 GB (it's impossible to accurately select flat denominations with that slider). I figured that would allow the sync to finish up, but it just pretty much hung there, so I deleted the TV sync job before it finished, which had reached about 58% (it was close to %80 at one point but dropped back down). I figured I could start clean and try to sync that TV show again. Instead, three hours later and nothing has changed--except that all of the problems described above have yet to cease. The episodes are nowhere to be found in sync, which is good, and yet I've got no space left, or maybe I do, but Plex is certainly unable to decide, given that it jumps around on the Sync Settings screen. To be clear, Plex should be reporting that I have used approximately 14 GB and have about 16 GB available.

Extra:

iOS' settings show that only 13.1 GB is being used by Plex. In addition, I can still actually synchronize more content. I added one more artist album while all this was happening and it's fine, despite "Storage limit reached." Nevertheless, all the problems described continue during and after syncing actual content.

I've described problem 1 in two other threads in more detail, because it presents other problems, so I won't elaborate any more on that.

I spent two days synchronizing 13 GB of music to the app--because for some reason I have to keep the damn thing active and in the foreground in order for anything to sync--and now it's mostly unusable and PMS is thrashing my server, even after a cold reboot.

Attached are screenshots illustrating this behaviour, and I've even got a video should a dev want to see. Verbose logs were also emailed, and they're attached here as well. Also, notice how the "Sync start" / "Sync finished" notifications are present in nearly all of the screenshots, because they never stop.

A number of people are having issues with iOS devices getting stuck on Waiting to Upload for there Camera Upload to their Plex server. I am also having the same issue on my iOS device, whereas multiple others in my house are working find. In some cases when I am watching images or videos being upload, some cases the Plex status message will read, "Downloading data from iCloud". If the images are stored on our devices, why is Plex going to iCloud to get data and how is it even getting access to do that? I am not sure if this has anything to do with why some of our devices are forever stuck on Waiting to upload, but I am wondering if Plex is really going out to iCloud somehow for some reason, if that is not creating some of our issues.

Looking to consolidate my cross application movie library (PLEX, VUDU, etc.) into a custom website. VUDU will open the app if you attempt to play a movie from a web browser, can PLEX do the same thing?

Basically I want to be able to have a URL to my PLEX server which when on an android device will trigger the PLEX app to open to a particular move.

So, yet again, the updates to plex are not being pushed to the unRAID docker. I check for updates, says its up to date but when i open plex, still says it needs an update. The lack of support for a paid service is starting to really get under my nerves. The following are screen shots from today, March 8 2018. The update has been out for at least a week now. Is there a step by step guide for manually updating for a complete noob when it comes to doing it by command prompt? Anything I've found is so vague that its not worth the attempt and messing up and losing all data.

Any chatter about making ebook files like .mobi and .epub available through our Plex Media Servers?

I spent 1h reading a lot of things on the subject and didn't find a way to get it working.

Issue I got:
When installing Plex and launching it, it ask to log in. That's what I do then it loops on "Looking for servers...". Looking in the settings doesn't help, server tab is missing. It looks like the hardware is ok as it's an Intel (so no deprecation)

What I tried:

• Reading the FAQ and related topics on the subjects, I think I've tested everything
• Ensuring process is running, rebooted the NAS, still the same issue
• Resintall plex (unlogging, uninstalling, removing user, removing plex shared storage, installing plex, connecting)...still the same issue
• Try to force with "http://nas_ip/manage/index.html#!/setup", no luck
• Try to manually install the latest version, not better

I don't know what I missed. Any help would be appreciated.

I have a DS718+(ram 6G),when I play HEVC video with ASS/SSA subtitle. playback is not smooth. If I disable this HW or disable the subtitle, then play no problem.
The biggest reason why I purchased a plex PASS is because of this HW. This situation is really frustrating for me now.

Mentioned over in http://forums.plex.tv/discussion/216688/plex-for-chromecast#latest but it's a big one, so I wanted to also mention in here.

We've reworked and rewritten the Chromecast app to use the same underlying technology as the Web application. There are some look and feel changes in this first release, and some better device support - but it's also setting the foundations for support of newer Plex features.

I realise it's been very quiet from us devs in here for a long while, but if you have any feedback or issues with the new receiver then please let us know! If it's something that likely requires an answer/investigation, a new thread works best. Thanks

So I've noticed with one of my videos, a 1080P, encoded at 6.4Mbps, the "convert automatically" setting says that it's encoding to something like 7.4Mbps.
Beyond the obvious problem that it's apparently pointlessly encoding, I'm also confused why it's doing it at all. I've been trying to set it to "Play Original Quality" setting, and the setting refuses to stick. Every time I reset it, it just goes back to the convert automatically setting.
Additionally, I have the web server settings set to use 4Mbps 720P, so it's apparently also ignoring that.
And lastly, it does appear to go to 720P/4Mbps if I set it in the drop down while playing the video.

So is this just not reporting correctly what is happening, or are things actually not working?

Server version is 1.10.1.4561, using the web client(3.31.1).

Hello, about a month ago my plex app on Roku TV stopped working. When I open it, it immediately crashes. I have tried uninstalling, factory resetting, downgrading plex server and no luck. Any tips on what I can do?
