Hello everyone finally it's here and I think some of you waited for this to happen quite a while and I'm sorry for that. After the last few weeks I dedicated most of my time to finish the backend and reworked and improved this Metadata Agent.
 

MyAnimeList.net Metadata Agent / MALAgent

Description:

The MyAnimeListAgent is a Metadata Agent for the Plex Media Server and is used to parse data from a source into the server. Since MyAnimelist.net does not provide a easy to use and complete API for their database I wrote the fribbtastic-api to parse the website and return the necessary data for the Agent to work. After the Scanner scans your files on your hard drive and added them to your library a search query to my API is triggered and the result with the highest conformity will be used to trigger a detailed request. This detailed request contains everything that is parseable like the title, the rank or all available Episodes.

The MyAnimeListAgent can be used for Tv-Shows and Movies.

To provide more Image Information like Backgrounds and Banners the API provides these fromTheTVDB.

 
Note:

• Every Anime is cached in a Database to limit the requests made to the myanimelist.net website. Animes are cached for 7 days.
• Popular Animes like Naruto, Bleach or One Piece who provide many information will take some time to complete the request. So if you have an Anime that is not getting recognized or filled with Metadata, try to refresh the anime after clearing the plugin cache.
• My API, which provides the Data, is only parsing the Data from MyAnimeList.net which means if there are missing Episode titles then it is possible that they aren’t added yet.
• If Episodes are not available on MyAnimeList.net this Agent will set the Title to “Episode: X” and the date to the date you are adding it to your library. This means that you can still watch your anime from the “On Deck” Feature even if the original date is not available.

 
 
Installation:

Works best with: BABS – Better absolute Scanner

Scanner Installation:

Windows: C:\Users\[Your Username]\AppData\Local\Plex Media Server\Scanners\Series

Linux: /var/lib/plexmediaserver/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Scanners/Series

If the Folders Scanners and Series do not exist then you need to create them.

Agent Installation:

1. Stop Plex Media Server
2. Copy the MyAnimeList.bundle folder into your plugins folder (Where is my Plugins folder?)
3. Start Plex Media Server

Troubleshooting:

To figure out what happened I need the following Information: The Title and the Id of the Anime and If possible append the Log file to your post (how to find your log file!)

Known Issues:

1. API calls especially ones who aren't in cache yet or are older then 7 days will take longer to complete. So it is possible that you sometimes won't get any metadata because of an http timeout. Just start it again and the API cache should be good to go. This is especially the case for Anime with an episode list over 100 like Bleach, Naruto, HunterXHunter and especiall One Piece.
2. TheTVDB search request I made to get the series will match the found title to the title of the series. If this matching score is not over 85% the response wont get any TVDB Data
3. Sometimes when you won't get any metadata be patient and try another time. It could mean that myanimelist is refusing the request of my API because of "Too many requests".

I searched for this, but couldn't find anything on this topic. Apologies in advance if this is a duplicate.

There appears to be a bug (or, possibly, an unintended consequence) in the current version of Plex for Android TV, perhaps specific to the Sony Android TV line, that is forcing unneeded video transcodes, but only when subtitles are enabled and an audio format requiring transcoding is found. The expected behaviour would be a Direct Play for the video and subtitles, with an audio-only transcode

Take this example of a video file with this structure :

1. Matroska container
2. h264 video
3. DTS-MA audio
4. AC3 448k audio
5. Forced SRT subtitles

Manually selecting the AC3 audio results in a Direct Play, with subtitles correctly displayed when forced. This is the behaviour that is expected.

However, upon switching the audio stream to the DTS stream, this not only triggers the expected audio transcode, but it also triggers a video transcode to burn the subtitles in -- despite the TV being perfectly happy to Direct Play the video and subtitles.

Disabling the subtitles then returns the TV to Direct Stream of the video and transcode of the DTS audio stream - which is again expected.

I believe that when the Android client is telling the Plex Media Server to transcode audio due to the capabilities of the device, it also tells the PMS to burn any enabled subtitles to the video stream, regardless of whether those subtitles can be Direct Played by the device or not. if there are no subtitles enabled, Direct Play works fine on video as expected.

Can this be investigated with the possibility of a fix please ? In my specific case the video transcode is causing occasional problems with my NAS which has plenty of grunt enough to cope with an audio transcode no problem, but burps occasionally on a 1080p video/audio transcode so this would be hugely helpful to me and I suspect other low power PMS users.

For a while now (a couple of months) I haven't been able to access my server from my smart tv app. When opening the app, several bugs occur.

1. Right when I open it, error message says: 'Unable to connect to the Plex website!', then giving me options to 'Retry', 'Exit' and 'Home'.
2. When I chose 'Home' the app welcomes me and asks me to either 'Connect with your Plex Account' or 'Configure Manually'
   2.1 The 'Connect with your Plex Account' only gives me an error message 'Login Failed' and does not allow me to enter neither username or password.
   2.2 In the 'Configure Manually/add PMS' page I'm able to enter my PMS IP (which is what I've done since I started using Plex) except that now I only get an error message 'Test failed, Please make sure your server is on and the IP adress is reachable'

My TV is a Samsung UN50EH5300 (a 2012 model). All apps are up to date. I can access my server any other way; I'm currently accessing it from my smartphone and cast it to my TV with my Chromecast, no issues there, but I'd like to have it as I had it before, from the TV app.

Looking for help on an issue with my Plex Roku app. I use my computer as my server. Movies stream great, but I have an issue with my audio files.

There is always a slight (1 to 2 second) delay before audio is available at the start of songs. By that, I mean the audio begins with the song already 1 or 2 seconds in progress. This can be quite jolting, and is especially problematic with songs that bridge titles (think Pink Floyd's The Wall, with 1 second missing from every track change).

This delay occurs regardless of audio file type (flac, alac, mp3). By the way this is also occurring with the Plex app that came with my new Samsung TV. One other thing, this does not occur when I just use the computer as a DNLA server to connect to my a/v receiver. Playback is correct. I would just rather always use the Plex app for all it's options and functionality. Any advise would help.

Newly created TV library called "Test" Added a series, named according to Plex standards, and all was matched.

Removed the folder, season folders, and files and a few minutes later went to empty trash, clean bundles, etc to clean up the library.

To my surprise, it was automatically deleted. Not good, 'cause I have a drive connected by USB that may accidentally become disconnected occasionally.

Checked Settings >> Server >> Library and "Empty trash automatically after every scan" is definitely NOT enabled. I do know that a few of days ago I had to manually empty trash in another TV library when I added a new version of an episode and removed the old version, so it seems to be just this new library. Thinking it's somehow related to this problem with recent matches...

Hi,

Just bought the new Xiaomi Mi Box with Android TV 6.0 on it. Brilliant little device and works well with SPMC/KODI/VLC player and passes through DTS and AC3 without problems, but having major issues with Plex Client.

Symptoms are:

1. Audio Passthrough enabled - playing DTS / DTS-HD/MA / Dolby-TrueHD MKV - tries to directplay, files attempt to load and after a few seconds video, playback crashes with error "Network connection not fast enough..." No audio playback at all. Turn off passthrough and same file plays fine with audio transcoded.

2. Audio Passthrough enabled - playing AC3 MKV - video starts to stream for about 20 seconds, then video freezes for 2 seconds and then video playback goes out of sync and playback is at about 3-4x standard speed. Audio plays back without issue during this but goes out of sync.

3. Plex client does not honour Passthrough setting when set to disabled - when you turn passthrough off, it still tries to passthrough AC3 with the same results as above in point 2. All other formats (DTS and HD formats) get transcoded as expected and playback is good.

As you can imagine, this pretty much renders the Plex Client unusable at the moment as all MKV with AC3 files cannot be played at all regardless of what you set as passthrough. I have also tried disabling direct play and forcing direct stream but made no difference to the fault.

I am running version 5.1.2 of the client.

Has anyone else experience the same issues?

I have Windows 8.1 with Media Center for TV. For the last 2 weeks I have been having issues with Live TV quality issues and I have narrowed down the issue to Plex Media Player. Every time I use PMP then relaunch WMC the channels have issues. After a reboot or suspend it works fine until I launch PMP again. I don't understand what could be causing this issue but I know for a fact that it is caused by PMP.

On Plex Web or Android I can select which language/subtitle track to use before starting play, on my firetv I have to start, then change everything.

Is there a way to change that behavior?

Description:
In the plex web app in windows via chrome or internet explorer, I can log on to a managed user or the "master user" but it says that it cannot find server. If I refresh and retype pin, Most of the time it will work. But only if I refresh 3-15 times. this also happens in the windows 10 app. All android apps and chromecasts work flawlessly.

Server version: 1.3.3.3148 running on Windows 10
App Version: Windows 10 app or web app running on chrome or internet explorer.
Steps to reproduce:
Open chrome
Navigate to web app
Type in pin

Expected: Should be able to see Server

Actual: Opens interface but says "looking for servers"
Refresh page 3-15 times retyping pin each time
Usually works then but not always
After it works its flawless till I reload page

I have been working fine with a synology NAS running Plex server and PII client (latest version), all films and TV play fine with 5.1 DTS. Lately Certain TV shows play no sound, the only way around this is to turn transcoding on the PII, which although I get sound I have to wait and the show pauses.

The only thing I can see is that in the MKV the Audio is E-AC-3, as opposed to a know good file which is AC-3.

Hi All,

Since the December update to the ATV4 application all TV Show episodes that are partially watched, are resuming at the beginning of the episode when selected to play (this is not a desirable behavior). The play icon does not show with the three dots (...) to resume a partially watched show.

However, by manually exploring the episode list and selecting an episode to play, the resume functionality works and you are presented with the play icon with three dots.

Is this a bug in the ATV release, or now a default behavior? as it is certainly annoying when attempting to resume a show.

Anyone aware of a fix or upcoming release to address it?

I figured this out a few days ago (and posted a comment about it on a Feature Request thread I had started) but had never heard of it before/seen it posted anywhere so I figured I would repost it here.

Turning on HDMI Device Link (PS4) or HDMI Control (PS3) in the System settings, plus HDMI-CEC on the TV (Anynet+, SimpLink, Bravia Sync, CEC, etc, depending on the manufacturer) allows you to control Plex with your IR-based TV or Harmony remote.

The remote control is rather limited, but the following buttons seem to work:
Play
Pause
Fast Forward and Rewind (which work as expected, short press for 10 second skip and long hold for full ff/rewind).
Up
Down
Left
Right
Select/OK
Exit/Return

I was getting sick of turning on/off the PS4 controller constantly or wasting battery, this eliminates that entirely. I still need to use the controller at least once to get the system turned on, but can turn it off after that and don't need to bother with it if I need to play/pause several times, or switch TV episodes. It looks like the PS4 media remote or hub-based harmony remotes would work also work (probably better), but this workaround for IR-based remotes saves me from having to get one of those.

Anyway, hopefully somebody finds this useful.

Some of you may have followed the recent development on the original Subliminal.bundle by @bramwalet.

I've made some serious changes, improvements and bugfixes to Subliminal.bundle during the last few weeks, with the help of some very nice people such as @PMAdmin, @chopeta, @BlueToxic and others.

As the direction of this project has moved a long way, I thought it was time to evolve from simply being a personal fork of Subliminal.bundle to something more dedicated.

Plugin Description

Sub-Zero aims to solve your subtitle problems by automatically downloading the hopefully best subtitles there are, for your individual video file.

Subtitles are a problem? Yep, they definitely are. I myself use this plugin on a daily basis as my wife has a serious hearing condition where subtitles help us to be able to watch our favourite TV series and movies together. Subtitles pose a generic struggle: matching your media file perfectly. This is as hard as it gets. Thankfully there are a bunch of libraries and services out there, that help with that.

Sub-Zero is far from being perfect, but with recent development and planned features, we're really getting there.

Its core is based on the works of Diaoul, who created the subliminal library, as well as enzyme, to parse MKV metadata. In addition to that Sub-Zero uses the extremely well-made guessit library made by wackou.

Sub-Zero still is under heavy development but has recently reached a stable state. I need you to report bugs and tell me your opinion on new features.

Manual Installation

• remove old versions (rm -r Sub-Zero.bundle)

I'm running Ubuntu 13.04 with Chromium as my default browser.  When I use the shortcut to open the Plex Media Manager at http://localhost:32400/web/index.html#!/dashboard, it opens in Firefox every time.  Is there a way to make Plex open in Chromium?

I was running on Ubuntu 12.10 and it worked flawlessly there.  This is probably something very simple to fix, but I'm not figuring it out.

I am experiencing heavily stuttering while streaming MKV/H264 from my Plex server on my Roku 3. I have confirmed 40-60MB via speed test channel on Roku and this does not affect every movie. When the stuttering occurs, the server is approx 97-100% CPU (The Shallows) and less than 40% CPU (Frozen) via the PlexTranscoder application. I use MakeMKV/RipBot264 for MKV/H264 files for DVD and BluRay. This issue could be a lack of understanding on my end so I will provide as much information as I can. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Full Disclosure: My HTPC (Windows 10 Professional (x64)/2.80 gigahertz AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 5400+/4GB Ram) with 3 X 2TB drive that is hardwired from a Netgear AC1450 which connects to a TPLink Home Plug (3 total in the house to provide 'hardwired' access to various rooms). PowerLink utility shows HIGH 1XX to MID 2XXMBs. The Roku is connected via a switch that connects to another TPLink Home Plug. I do not believe this to be a streaming problem based on the speedtest.

A few questions/observations:

1) CPU usage goes down only slightly when lowering The Shallow's quality to 320KBS. Picture quality is horrible and it plays a bit better but still not perfect whereas Frozen plays at Original Quality (perfect picture) without any issues and less than 40% CPU.

2) I notice the pre-RipBot264 MKV (larger) seem to stutter more. I assumed it was due to the larger size and never worried about as they are always processed RipBot264. This could be the same problem as The Shallows as being discussed.

3) I typically just leave the Plex Media Server settings at default; Is it a correct assumption that "Quality" settings affect local playback where as Roku/Plex Client settings are for the streaming?

4) I don't believe I need hardware upgrade given Frozen (and others) are played back flawlessly but I am open for any advice to make the wife/baby happy.

5) Allow Directstream? What is that? Is there any tutorial/guide that I can read to understand Plex more?

So I'm going to be building a new pc here soon or upgrading my current setup. I'm wondering if any of you guys have tried playing any True 4K content (2160p at 80mbps) with decent computer specs. My current setup that I'm going to list below simply cannot handle 4K movies at all (All 4 threads are 99% maxed)... definitely not really viewable anyways, because it constantly buffers and lags. So my question for you all is should I upgrade to a AMD FX8350 and overclock it (Passmark 9,000-10,000) or go ahead and get an entire new chipset which would be the Intel LGA 2011-v3 socket with a Core i7-5820K (Passmark 13,000-16,000 Depending on the overclock). I would like to just get the FX8350 and call it a day, but I don't know if it would be able to handle upcoming 4K movies. I heard that Bluray RIPs for the new 4K UHD Movies are more than likely going to be around 100-150gb per movie. I'm also sure that it'll be a little while before they launch new Bluray drives for our PCs that will be capable of ripping the newer Bluray Discs and by the time that those are our Intel might have already released newer 14nm LGA 2011-v3 processors..

I get this error when I play a 4K HEVC stream. My playback device is Nvidia Shield. The plex app runs in the shield. The plex server is a QNAP NAS. Most of the 1080p streams are working fine.

Hmmm ... got the (latest?) update, now every time I try to start Plex => "Unfortunately, Plex has stopped". Others seeing this?

Keyboard shortcuts have been working fine until today, no shortcuts working at all. I have restarted and still nothing.

I have the Plex app installed and both my PS3 and my PS4. I have been struggling for the longest time to get it to work with the PS3 to no avail. However, it worked great with my PS4 right from the start. What is my PS4 doing that my PS3 isn't in finding the server? Any help, thoughts, or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
