Yes, I too am having the "Conversion Failed. Transcoder crashed or....." message

I've been having this issue for a while now and finally was throughly annoyed, so, after reading through all of the other people who have this issue, finally decided to delete all of my libraries and start from scratch. Nope.... Still doing it. I have attached the logs, I'm really hoping I can get this figured out. I've invested far too much time and energy into my collection and really am frustrated. bp

Re-installed PLEX on TS-251, now PMS not available

Long post, trying to be explicit. Thanks for helping!

Hi all. I am a new (week-old) Plex user, and I have been loving it so far. I have been running Plex Media Server (PMS) V1.10.1.4602 on my QNAP TS-251 for a week, and I even managed to get the HW transcoding to work (even 1080p seems to go well). Very awesome. In my attempts to verify my Plex setup was secure enough for external access, I did a full remove of PMS off of my QNAP yesterday. Now that I have reinstalled it, I cannot access my PMS, even through the local IP address https://192.168.x.x:32400/. I am a bit confused as to what is going on. Below is the full rundown of what is going on.

I have a TS-251 running QTS 4.3.4.0435
1) First I had installed PMS through the QNAP AppCenter: V1.10.0.523
2) After setting it up, Plex warned me there is a newer one. So I downloaded the .qpk from Plex, and installed V1.10.1.4602
3) In Hybrid station I am running Plex Home Theatre, and I have an android app and iOS app. All have been working well.
4) After uninstalling CodecPack through the QNAP AppCenter, even the HW transcoding works, and I have confirmed that I can stream 1080p content transcoded from external connections. Very cool
5) I set up Plex to only allow (require) secure connections.
6) I stopped the PMS through the QNAP AppCenter
7) I verified I could still stream content from any of my apps -- I figured perhaps the old PMS was still running? I decided to uninstall PMS to check
8) After uninstalling PMS, nothing streamed anymore, confirming that PMS was simply still running after 'stopping' it through the QNAP AppCenter.
9) I re-installed PMS through the .qpk of V1.10.1.4602
10) PMS is not reachable in any of my apps, and I cannot access PMS through https://192.168.x.x:32400/. I am getting a message about a faulty certificate, and if I access with the insecure http://192.168.x.x:32400/ I am getting the content of some XML file.

I have checked out the page describing how to fix a situation where you are locked out, but it does not describe how to do it for QNAP. Even more so, doing a grep for 'PlexOnlineHome' in the /share/CACHEDEV1_DATA/.qpkg/PlexMediaServer does not yield any config files that match. I have read the QNAP FAQ, and I have searched the forum.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this? In general, some information on how Plex actually works would be great, so that I can decide on how to set up a secure environment. Is the following description accurate?
PMS simply runs a web server on port 32400 (e.g. https://192.168.0.xxx:32400), with a certificate from https://plex.tv? And PMS registers its WAN IP address so that plex.tv can link to that IP address? Or is there something more complicated going on?

Also, it seems that Plex Home Theater from the Hybrid Station is still able to play my content. Even now that I have uninstalled PMS, I can still access my content through Plex Home Theater. Is it not using PMS at all?

Thanks a lot!

How can I configure 5.1 sound?

In my "plex web app" and "win 10 plex app" there are no settings for the number of audio channels. In this case, the rear channels are audible from the front.

If the video is launched via "VLC" - everything is ok.

Hevc 4k da PC a TV

Salve a tutti,

Grazie mille.

Mobile sync on Android not working for some items.

Hi! i just bought a lifetime plex pass to be able to sync my music.
But when i sync the music on my android phone (running Android 8.0.0), some of the files says:
"the file associated with this item is not accessible by the server. Please verify that the file exists and the necessary drive is accessible"

I have my content synced on my sd card.

I have attached a log while starting the app without wifi, and opening a Artist i have this issue with (witch failed with the error above)

However, it works when I am on the same wifi as the server, and choose "local and synced content" on my phone.

Does Apple TV Now Support H.265 10 bit in MKV Containers

I have a large video library on a QNAP TVS-671 with an i7 processor.
My ROKU Premier+ died and I am thinking of replacing it with the Apple 4K TV.
Questions:
1) Does the latest TVoS fix playing H.265 in an MKV container issue?
2) I want to use DirectPlay for no transcoding to my Samsung 4K TV - Is this now possible?
3) Does anyone know if a 4K Plex movie will look better using an Apple 4K TV vs the new ROKU Ultra? My TV supports HDR - it does NOT support Dolby Video.
4) I have been told that the PLEX user interface is the best on the Apple TV - does anyone agree?

Thank you for your help.

I'm using Plex for Kodi - and when playing music tracks from multi disk albums, only tracks from disk 1 will be played, though it will report to be playing the track requested.

This is using Plex Server 1.11.1.4760 (64bit) on a Synology DS918+

Thanks

Hi guys,

My Plex server is running on a first generation NVIDIA SHIELD. I've an issue with remote acces. Yesterday I could acces the server remote but today not. Some extra background information, the media is on a Synology server. I used SMB for connection. Plex and the Shield is up to date.

The things I tried:

  • Restart Plex
  • Restart Shield
  • Checking port (32400) in the router (this was okay)

Plex is also running on the Synology server. This Plex server doesn't have an issue remote acces.

Does someone has tips&tricks to check?

Live TV Crashing PMS

Every now and then when watching live TV the entire server crashes. The screen acts like it's going to buffer then stops at 33% and locks up. I have to restart PMS in order to restart watching the show. It doesn't happen a lot (when watching football for 6 hours straight it only failed once).

My setup is as follows:

i7-6700k computer with 32GB RAM (hardwired)
HDHomerun Connect (hardwired)
Roku Premiere+

Is anybody else having these issues?

Local Extras for TV Shows?

First off, I'm so happy this feature was added. My question is does it also work for TV Shows? All the guides show how to do it for movies so I'm not sure if it work for TV Shows.

I have the complete Star Trek TNG TV show setup in plex, but I also have TONS of bonus material (think a "behind the scenes" for basically every episode) that I haven't been able to include. I'd really like to integrate them in if there's a proper way to do it now.

Streaming freezes regularly

I use Plex Media Server to stream content to my AppleTVs at home using the iOS Plex app. This has always been working great, but the last few days I've started encountering a very critical problem - after some time, playback will just stop. The image will freeze and display the spinning icon indicating it's buffering, but it won't ever resume. If I close the video and start it again, resuming from the same point, it will work again, but it will freeze soon again.

How long I can watch before it freezes seems to depend on what media I'm watching. For HD content, it freezes after roughly 1.5 minutes. For DVD quality content, I can watch around 10 minutes at a time before it freezes.

I have attached a log file to this post, showing when I resume playback of a file and then playing until it freezes (that's where the log starts to get really spammy).

I don't know much about Plex's inner workings, but judging by the text in the log file and the fact that it seems to freeze after roughly the same time every time, I would hazard a guess that the problem is related to what's referred to as the "HLS segment range" in the log file. The log makes a lot of mention of segments 93-106, and the problem seems to occur when the client requests segment 107.

The problem might have occurred after upgrading from Mountain Lion to Yosemite (I upgraded last week, not sure exactly when these problems started). I noticed I was running an old PMS (0.9.11.1) and updated to the latest one (0.9.11.4) but that did not help.

Any guesses on how to remedy this issue?

Plex - Organise by folder/filename instead of metadata

$

I've ripped my entire CD library to FLAC. I organise it carefully in a neat folder structure (artist, year+album, etc.) I don't bother updating the metadata in the FLAC files, because I find songs by path/filename rather than metadata. As a result, the metadata is a bit of a mess.

When I copy those FLAC files into Plex, I end up with a really messy library. This is because Plex seems to prioritise metadata over folder structure. Also, I have WAV files which lack any sort of metadata, so I end up with "[Unknown Artist]" etc. in the Plex app.

I see that I can browse by folder using the Plex client, but the interface is not very elegant; it always shows big thumbnails instead of a more compact line-by-line view. This makes selecting albums and songs within the Plex client a real pain.

What is the easiest, most future-proof way to remedy this situation?

a) Normalise the Metadata and then re-import into Plex - I could Use MediaMonkey (or a similar too) to rewrite all the metadata based on path and filename, and then re-import into Plex. This would take a LONG time, and would require me to remember to normalise the metadata of any new CDs I add later. However, in theory, this seems to be the approach that makes Plex happy.

b) Get Plex server to normalise the metadata - Is there a way to get Plex to rewrite the artist, year+album, and song titles based on path and filenames? And does it need to be done each time I add another CD to the library? Or can it be done automatically?

c) Get Plex server to ignore metadata - Can we tell Plex to not trust the metadata but instead treat artist, year+album, and song titles based on filenames? Note that this is different from rewriting the metadata, since the files would not be updated, and therefore subsequent rsyncs from the source computer wouldn't keep overwriting the metadata on the plex server.

d) Get Plex client to handle folder browsing better - Are there ways to configure the [Android] Plex app to handle folder-based album and song selection more elegantly? Hidden options, perhaps?

e) Use an alternate Plex client - Are there any good free ones that can stream to Chromecast as easily as the Plex app does?

Suggestions?

Live TV fails to start and buffers frequently

$

I am a big fan of Plex. I have been a Plex Pass subscriber for a number of years. For a few months, I adopted Plex to be my DVR. There have been some minor hiccups, but I think that is a good product. I am disappointed in actually watching live TV using Plex. All of my TV use Rokus. Whenever I try to watch TV, it will show loading, and I typically get a pop up indicating that it failed to start. If I go to my Plex server, exit the PMS, and start it again, this will allow me to watch a channel. Next, while watching this channel, I will usually see this live TV buffer frequently. I currently have my server reboot everyday to try to limit this behavior. I also read up on the transcoder, and the speed of this live TV is usually around 1.9-2.0, which seems to be adequate.

So, my question to you here is, how can I get a better experience for Live TV when using Plex? Again, I am using Rokus for this. And my server is pretty beefy, AMD FX(tm)-6300 Six-Core Processor 3.50 GHz and 24 GB Ram.

Siemka.

DVR Commercial Removal and Audio gets out of sync.

Have tried on two PCs and it even gets out of sync on a new AMD Ryzen 1700X processor.

Occasionally it works, but mostly the audio gets out of sync.

Is PLEX working on this or at least a way to adjust the audio to tune it back in to the lips?

Plex Not Reading Database Properly

$

I apologize in advance if this has been addressed elsewhere, I searched and didn't seem to come upon this particular issue.

I am running Plex Media Server v. 1.11.1.4753 on a Mac Mini, OS X 10.13.3.

Originally, my Plex would hang in the "starting server" state. I ran a Pragma integrity check on the database and it came back as malformed. I tried the steps to repair (dumping to a sql file, then re-importing back into a new db) but that didn't work.

I purchased an app that repairs malformed sqlite databases and it was able to open the file and list the tables and records. I resaved the repaired copy and ran the integrity check again, the result was that the database was "ok".

Now, Plex tries to start, but ultimately fails with the following in the console and log:

Feb 06, 2018 09:19:36.134 [0x70000b51f000] INFO - Plex Media Server v1.11.1.4753-da42c409e - Apple Mac - build: darwin-x86_64 macosx - GMT -05:00

So now I am at a loss as to what to do... I know I should have been backing up the system, and that is a mistake I will not repeat, but in the meantime I would appreciate any help. Any application capable of reading the sqlite db file clearly shows the database as ok, the metadata_items table exists, and there are records in it.

I will happily send the database file to anyone if they know what to do with it to make it work. I'm really hoping not to have to rebuild the whole thing from scratch, there are almost 10,000 media files.

Again, any help at all would be GREATLY appreciated!!

[Release] MyAnimeList.net Metadata Agent

$
0
0

Hello everyone finally it's here and I think some of you waited for this to happen quite a while and I'm sorry for that. After the last few weeks I dedicated most of my time to finish the backend and reworked and improved this Metadata Agent.

MyAnimeList.net Metadata Agent / MALAgent

Description:

The MyAnimeListAgent is a Metadata Agent for the Plex Media Server and is used to parse data from a source into the server. Since MyAnimelist.net does not provide a easy to use and complete API for their database I wrote the fribbtastic-api to parse the website and return the necessary data for the Agent to work. After the Scanner scans your files on your hard drive and added them to your library a search query to my API is triggered and the result with the highest conformity will be used to trigger a detailed request. This detailed request contains everything that is parseable like the title, the rank or all available Episodes.

The MyAnimeListAgent can be used for Tv-Shows and Movies.

To provide more Image Information like Backgrounds and Banners the API provides these fromTheTVDB.

Note:

  • Every Anime is cached in a Database to limit the requests made to the myanimelist.net website. Animes are cached for 7 days.
  • Popular Animes like Naruto, Bleach or One Piece who provide many information will take some time to complete the request. So if you have an Anime that is not getting recognized or filled with Metadata, try to refresh the anime after clearing the plugin cache.
  • My API, which provides the Data, is only parsing the Data from MyAnimeList.net which means if there are missing Episode titles then it is possible that they aren’t added yet.
  • If Episodes are not available on MyAnimeList.net this Agent will set the Title to “Episode: X” and the date to the date you are adding it to your library. This means that you can still watch your anime from the “On Deck” Feature even if the original date is not available.

Installation:

Works best with: BABS – Better absolute Scanner

Scanner Installation:

Windows: C:\Users\[Your Username]\AppData\Local\Plex Media Server\Scanners\Series

Linux: /var/lib/plexmediaserver/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Scanners/Series

If the Folders Scanners and Series do not exist then you need to create them.

Agent Installation:

  1. Stop Plex Media Server
  2. Copy the MyAnimeList.bundle folder into your plugins folder (Where is my Plugins folder?)
  3. Start Plex Media Server

Download:
http://coding.fribbtastic.net/projects/myanimelistagent/

Troubleshooting:

To figure out what happened I need the following Information: The Title and the Id of the Anime and If possible append the Log file to your post (how to find your log file!)

Known Issues:

  1. API calls especially ones who aren't in cache yet or are older then 7 days will take longer to complete. So it is possible that you sometimes won't get any metadata because of an http timeout. Just start it again and the API cache should be good to go. This is especially the case for Anime with an episode list over 100 like Bleach, Naruto, HunterXHunter and especiall One Piece.
  2. TheTVDB search request I made to get the series will match the found title to the title of the series. If this matching score is not over 85% the response wont get any TVDB Data
  3. Sometimes when you won't get any metadata be patient and try another time. It could mean that myanimelist is refusing the request of my API because of "Too many requests".

If you have any problems with this Agent please don't hesitate to ask but please keep this thread clean. If you have problems, exceptions or strange behaviour post them in my Support thread here

you can also follow me on twitter https://twitter.com/D4r4ku or visit the project page on http://coding.fribbtastic.net/projects/myanimelistagent/ (there you can subscribe for email notification)
