Hi all,

Just moved to the QNAP 4.3 beta (64-bit) and tried to upgrade to latest Plex (Version 2.12.3). During the upgrade I chose to remove the previous install, and when I installed the new 64-bit version, I found that I could not re-add my libraries.

Specifically, I am unable to select a language during the add process (dropdown is blank):

and when I try to finish adding the library it says "Your changes could not be saved."

I've searched a bit, and there doesn't seem to be much out there than "uninstall and reinstall" - which hasn't worked. (FWIW, I also tried to reinstall the 32-bit latest version of Plex, with the same behavior as above. Am back on the broken 64-bit version and trying to solve that.) Really appreciate any insights anyone might have - my QNAP Plex NAS has gone from being center of household to useless. :(

Which platforms support 7.1 surround sound?
I have a Roku Premier but am unable to get 7.1 sound from the plex media player.
On my PC I am able to get 7.1 sound.
So which devices (Apple TV, Nvidia Shield etc.) and Plex Media combination will support 7.1 surround sound?

Introduction

Greetings all!

What started out as me trying to learn Python ended up being a quite useful app, so I thought I'd share what I've got so far.

This initially started out basically as a direct port of PlexWatchWeb from PHP to Python so it would be easier for most people to get running. I however am never satisfied so after much tinkering and tweaking I started slowly adding and fixing things that I thought needed attention.

If you have no idea what I'm talking about then that's fine too, if you came here to just find a tool to easily monitor and receive notify playback events from Plex you're at the right place.

Hi,

Recently I've noticed that some of my movies will not download meta data. For example '2001 - A Space Odyssey (1968)', its not a new film and one thats pretty popular.

I've tried going in to plex and "fix incorrect match" or un match and then match (it finds the film in the list for all agents). Plex tells me its downloading metadata but it ever actually updates.

I have no idea what is wrong. its not the end of the world but it is mildly annoying.

Plex version is: Version 1.3.3.3148 and its running on Windows 10 pro

I just read that Plex is inviting new people to Plex Cloud who meet the requirements on a first-come fist-served basis.
While I can't find the requirements, I'm pretty sure I don't meet them in the way I submitted the form. This because when I submitted the form I didn't have any cloud storage.

Since a few months I have 1TB Google Drive storage so I'd like to know if it is possible to update my beta request.
I already tried resubmitting the form but then I get the error that I can't submit twice.

i am at a loss. All my movies have forced, embedded subtitles using MKVmerge.
i can play the video ONCE, the subtitles show up. play the same file again. subtitles are missing.
go to another video, subtitles there.. go to a different video subtitles missing.. what the deal??

languages: English, always on, English
agents: personal media and then local

android/tablet using plex media player .. no issues can play subtitles, no problem
Roku 3 is where the issue lies??
subtitles are turned ON and set to default ON all caption settings.. ideas???

UPDATE:
OK, so i found out on the Roku.
if you watch the movie
go all the way to the HOME screen of the roku then go BACK to the movie, the subtitles show up again..WTF
why wont the subtitles carry over to the next folder or next movie??
do i really need to go all the way OUT then back into plex for the subtitles to show up again??

This post will always contain the latest version of the Plex service wrapper.
This is not official or affiliated with Plex in any way and was originally made for personal use. Treat it as such and please don't bug the Plex devs about it. (bug them about Plex not running as a service natively by all means :P) feel free to post your questions here and I will do my best to help.

If you are having problems, the first question will be whether it runs ok when not being run as a service. Please ensure you can get Plex up and running fine on it's own.

Please read all of this post, there is lots of information covering the most common problems (Mapped drives, different user accounts etc)

The service application was created to enable Plex Media Server to operate as a service in windows.
It has been reported to work on the following OS's and requires .net framework 4 is installed:

To update Plex Media Server:
1. Stop the plex using the service task bar application
2. Run the plex installer to do the upgrade as usual.
3. When the installer is complete, start Plex using the service task bar application.

[WARNING] Read below if you intend to change the service account
If you change the service account type or the service user account from your current configuration, your application data (and therefore your library) will not be available when you start Plex.
If you want to run the service under a different account, Then you should first move your Plex application data folder to a common folder (Personally I have mine on a second drive of my server "D:\Plex").
If the application data is left under the previous account's folder, then the new account will not have permission to get to it.
Once you have the application data in a common place, after starting Plex with the new credentials, go to the web interface -> server settings -> general -> show advanced -> "The path where local application data is stored" and change this to the location you just moved your Plex application data to. Restart Plex and you should be good to go.

When asked for your credentials during install make sure you fully qualify the user name.
If you are on a domain, the username is entered as domain\username.
If you aren't on a domain, the domain is the computer itself so replace the domain name with the computer name eg. (mycomputersname\username OR .\username).

The install includes a tray application to start and stop Plex, view logs for the service and open the Plex web manager.

Media location:
When Plex runs as a service, there is no user session created. Plex will run in a non-interactive session (session 0). This means that any drive mappings you have created will not be available.
If your media is located on a network device, Plex sections must be set up to look at a UNC path NOT a mapped drive.

Auxiliary applications:
Applications you want to have running with Plex. An example is Plexconnect, the python script for using plex with an apple TV.
I've added this after a request from a user to wrap Plexconnect the same way I did Plex, I figured it would work OK in the same service. I don't use Plexconnect personally but I tested this new system with several other applications and they all ran up fine.

To add an auxiliary application, using the task bar icon, go to settings, you will get a new window. click the add button to add a new application, and the remove button to remove the currently selected one.
Name is a user friendly name for the application, file is the file to execute and arguments is any command line arguments you want to add.

Save the settings and the next time the service is started the application you specified will start too. Check the logs (again through the task bar icon) to see how you got on.

I would suggest making sure that the application runs as expected in a normal user session BEFORE attempting to run it as an auxiliary application.

If you are installing Plex for the first time, I'd still recommend moving the application data folder, the user folder isn't the best spot.

I have 425 False duplicate episodes.
This has been occurring for the past month at least; maybe longer.
Some of them were caused when I trans-coded from x264 to x265 and changed the file name (using the app Filebot).
File name format {show} {season}{espisode} {vCodec} {res} {channels} {aCodec} {title}
E.g. The Mighty Plexers S03E01 x265 1080p 6ch AC3 The Plexerites

425 episode duplicates is too many to manually delete false / old entries by using episode info.

Maybe provide an option to force scan for missing files and then allow us to bulk or individually remove those entries. I think update followed by empty trash is supposed to do this. Update however does a lot of operations. I'm suggesting a simple database scan of location entries with a file existence check as a stand alone operation accessible by us.

Hi I just started to enable the preview thumbnails feature and wanted to know which streaming devices can show preview thumbnails? I have an apple tv 4th gen and a fire tv (the latest one). The thumbnails are still being downloaded (it's taking for ever!). I have about half of my tv library thumbnails downloaded. I can see the preview thumbnails on my computer but not on my apple tv or fire tv. I can also see it on my phone. I thought the apple tv would show the thumbnails on it by now since it already shows thumbnails for every other video on youtube, netflix, etc. I also thought they would enable it on the fire tv since the interface and everything of plex on it is the same as it is on every other device. If i can't use the preview thumbnails on any of these devices it's kind of useless then.

i cant get plex to stay online, it just spams the error message in the logs. any suggestions?

TVDB, IMDB, and Movie Database are all fairly accurate most of the time, but for those of us who've already meticulously edited the metadata and chapter markers, etc. in our MP4 containers, is there ANY way to stop the Plex agents from pulling metadata from outside sources completely? Even with certain agents disabled and Local Media Assets moved to the top, Plex still adds its own downloaded metadata from public databases. Thanks for any input! :-)

I am having a strange issue where any movie or TV show I play that isn't 1080p (for example a 576p DVD Rip) stops after 5 minutes and exits out to the menu. I keep having to re-enter the movie.

It works perfectly for all 1080p movies though.

I have tested the movies on my Apple TV and they all work perfectly though that.

Any ideas?

I have a Qnap TS-251+ NAS running the Plex Media Server. The system works with Plex players but will not work with Sonos app. The music file are "seen" but I get an "unable to connect to server" when attempting to play a song.

I spent two hours today on the phone with Sonos tech support. We tried all the usual things such as setting port forwarding to 32400, setting a virtual server, etc. Still would not work.

I have a D-link router 880L with the Sonos Boost connected directly. I have a 24 port switch downstream of the router. All systems seem to be okay except the Sonos app not connecting to play an item even though the song is seen.

Tech support suggested a different router. So, here I am requesting input regarding what router(s) have most easily worked with the Sonos/Plex app. I am not interested in spending a great deal of time trying workarounds if a new router can solve the problem. I would rather have the system up easily so I can listen rather than scratch my head. :)

Just bought a brandnew Samsung UN55KU6290 and install PLEX from the app link. Everything seems fine and shows a beautiful PLEX media library. Upon clicking to play anything I got a terrible message saying "There's a problem playing this item" on top right corner of TV. This happens on very file inclusing mp3 files. What strange to me is that I have another Samsung UN40J5500 which PLEX plays every file I throw at it. Do you have similar problem? How Can I fix this issue?

I changed the title because the problem is not with optimization, it is with slow filter querys.

~~I have a problem with slow querys that have filters like unwatched, from what I have read you need to optimize the database and I have tried that but it did not help.
When I checked the logs i get these messages stating that there is a problem optimizing the database and this might be the problem why I have slow querys.

Does anyone have any idea why it fails to optimize the database?~~

Some of you may have followed the recent development on the original Subliminal.bundle by @bramwalet.

I've made some serious changes, improvements and bugfixes to Subliminal.bundle during the last few weeks, with the help of some very nice people such as @PMAdmin, @chopeta, @BlueToxic and others.

As the direction of this project has moved a long way, I thought it was time to evolve from simply being a personal fork of Subliminal.bundle to something more dedicated.

Plugin Description

Sub-Zero aims to solve your subtitle problems by automatically downloading the hopefully best subtitles there are, for your individual video file.

Subtitles are a problem? Yep, they definitely are. I myself use this plugin on a daily basis as my wife has a serious hearing condition where subtitles help us to be able to watch our favourite TV series and movies together. Subtitles pose a generic struggle: matching your media file perfectly. This is as hard as it gets. Thankfully there are a bunch of libraries and services out there, that help with that.

Sub-Zero is far from being perfect, but with recent development and planned features, we're really getting there.

Its core is based on the works of Diaoul, who created the subliminal library, as well as enzyme, to parse MKV metadata. In addition to that Sub-Zero uses the extremely well-made guessit library made by wackou.

Sub-Zero still is under heavy development but has recently reached a stable state. I need you to report bugs and tell me your opinion on new features.

It currently supports the following subtitle providers:

• opensubtitles (TV, movies)

• Podnapisi (TV, movies)
• TVsubtitles.net (TV)
• The SubDB (TV, movies)

Manual Installation

• go to Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Plug-ins/

• remove old versions (rm -r Sub-Zero.bundle)

• get the current version from here
• unpack it
• restart your plex media server!

Usage

• go to Settings -> Server -> Agents -> Movies/TV Shows

• select the metadata provider you use on your library, e.g.: Freebase (movies) or TheTVDB (series)

• enable Sub-Zero Subtitles (TV/Movies)
• configure them
• refresh your library (or individual movies/TV shows)

Use the following agent order:

1. Sub-Zero Subtitles (TV/Movies)
2. Local Media Assets (TV/Movies)
3. anything else

Is there a limitation on the photo size to be shown in plex clients? I get "unable to load photo" on some larger > 100MB TIFF photo's. The message is not related to the TIFF format or resolution as smaller Tiff files and JPEG with the same resolution are shown correctly.

If so why are smaller thumbnails not shown, preferrbly with a message that the photo cannot be full screen? I suspect there are thumbnails of these larger files as the photo tagging feature shows related photo's and the photo's are shown in the tag results?

Trying to play videos errors out with "This channel is not responding."

I can browse all content fine. It is only playback that is now broken.
