No sound on audio files without album metadata

I'm new to Plex, so sorry if this has been answered a million times - I did do a search and failed to find anything. I have a Plex server set up on a Qnap NAS. I only want it for playing music. I have the client app set up on my Xbox One. All of my music shows up on it. The albums where Plex has found metadata (so with the album art and such) play just fine. But for the albums that Plex is not finding metadata there's no sound on any of the tracks. I hit play and Plex shows it to be playing - no error message and it counts down through the track - but there's no sound. It seems to be working fine. If I play to my laptop browser, everything works, including the albums without metadata. This is a huge problem for me, because Plex isn't finding metadata for nearly half of my collection. Thanks for any help.

Plex Sync is broken on Microsoft Surface Tablets

I have a Microsoft Surface Pro 4 tablet, and previously a Surface 3 tablet, and on both of them sync does not work properly.

With the Windows 10 64 bit default build, after I reboot (to ensure that all services and processes are totally restarted), initially I will get a sync transfer speed commensurate with a Wireless N connection - approx. 60-80Mb/sec (as monitored in task manager). However, after a period of time Plex becomes convinced that my network connection is crap and drops the transfer speed down to 0.1Mb/sec! The files get flagged with a network transfer error as well.

I sync to a 200GB class 10 external micro SD card and am able to copy files to it from the same server on my local network at 8MB/sec so the card is not the throttle. I also previously moved my sync location back to the SSD but had the same issue.

On other laptops in the house, this drop off in sync speed does not happen!

This has been reported multiple times before in a number of threads e.g. https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/253887/plex-sync-stops-working-after-2-or-3-videos#latest but has yet to even be commented on!

I have paid for a service which is fundamentally flawed, and I would at least like some acknowledgement that this issue is being looked at...

I enclose the networking diagnostic log files from my last attempt to sync which successfully synced 1 file at full speed, and then during the second dropped back to 0.1 Mb/sec.

If you require any further information, please just ask! I am more than happy to conduct any further tests of code or diagnostics to track down this VERY annoying issue.

Is there a release date or plans to have it come to the Canadian store?

Backup Plex

I know this is a stupid question to some, but I'm having a little trouble with getting this done.

I am moving PMS to a new server and would like to backup info so that I don't lose my place in each tv series, movie, and such.

I'm running PMS (Plex Pass) on FreeNAS. Originally on 9.2.0 and recently I plugged in a FreeNAS 11 USB key to see if it would work, and while it sort of worked it somehow killed my PMS jail such that even booting back to 9.2.0 doesn't allow PMS to work. All my data is still on the NAS and available to me as far as I can tell.

I get the PMS and FreeNAS are separate entities however I could use a little assistance to see if there is a way to get my Plex data backed up for a new NAS and fresh Plex Pass installation in a Jail. My original PMS turned Plex Pass was installed via FreeNAS plugin which shows as 0.9.9.12.504 although I thought I read there is a bug where the version doesn't show correctly - it should be as up to date as possible as I regularly run the manual update).

I don't necessarily need to backup all the media files, where I'm stuck is just in the data Plex uses to save my position in V shows, playlists, etc. Any help is appreciate for this.

Purchased One Time Activation is not working on Amazon Fire Tablet, but prompts "already bought"

Hey Plex Team,

i purchased a one time activation on a Amazon Fire HD8 via the Amazon app but i can not access it. When i try to access it, i get only the prompt that i already bought the activation and get back to the menu where i can buy the activation.

Reinstalling the App and cleaning the cache did not solve the problem.

I can send my amazon order (id) and account (id) on request.

Plex Media Server (Docker) incorrectly logs all incoming request IPs as docker internal server IP?

Just migrated my Plex (Synology Package originally) to docker (plexinc-pms/docker) and everything went fine apart from:

(A) Having to manually port forward (suspect because the docker container is running in bridge mode) - This is not really an issue and resolved.
(B) All incoming client requests to the docker server now log the external client IP address as the internal docker server IP (172.17.0.1) - This causes problems when monitoring usage with external apps such as PlexPy / PlexWatch etc...

Amazon Echo does not play music tracks to end

My Amazon Echo will play music to me external players without an issue. However, when I play music through the Amazon Echo's own speakers each track stops playing after 90 - 120 seconds into the track. It then starts playing the next track and the same thing happens.

How do I stop is happening?

Has anyone managed to get the Cbeebies Christmas Panto's showing properly in plex?
I have my root as Cbeebies Christmas Panto and then have tried different options to get Alice in Wonderland to show with all the information. TVDB has it as Season 2015. Any help appreciated.

This morning I made a lengthy post about a feature request in this forum (General Discussions) because it's also noted that this is where you should post such posts. I take my time to write everything up and I come back this evening and the post has been wiped...this really ticks me off and I think it's extremely rude! Why not contact the poster if there is something an admin or mod doesn't like and ask them to make whatever changes they think should be made in the post, instead of just wiping it without a word? To my knowledge, the forums are the only way to get support, direct contact to Plex is not allowed and will go unanswered according to the "contact" link. So I don't understand why legit posts would be wiped for no reason.

Getting a "Conversion failed. Transcoder crashed or failed to start up" error.

Hi, I've been using Plex for 3+ years now without seeing this conversion failed error. With the recent server update, I'm seeing this error randomly pop up, could be within a minute, could take more than 30 minutes, it does not occur on the same frame(s). I've seen this issue happen on both Chromecast as well as Xbox One Plex App.

I have attached my log files right after the most recent occurrence.

I'm current using Server version 1.9.2.4285 on Windows 10 64-bit.
I've already tried renaming the RSA folder as suggested in another forum entry but that hasn't helped.

Exhausted looking for Remote Access solution

I'm really sorry, I know this is a very asked about problem, but I've really tried and searched just about everything I can find online, and still can't figure out why I can't get Remote Access working.

I am on Mac Mini, OSX 10.11.6, Plex Version 1.9.6.4429, connected via ethernet.

I have enabled Port Forwarding for 32400 in my Asus TM-AC1900 router, and checked for Double-NAT, and I don't have a firewall on, and have checked my IPs match on everything, and ensured my servers IP is reserved in the router. (Screenshots below) Still can't get access. When I hit Retry, it comes back as green, but after about 1-1/2 seconds goes red.

I will be ever so grateful if anyone can't help me out.

The Plex Sync Functionality Thread

Hello everyone,
I wanted to create a central resource for people waiting for the issues with Plex Sync to be cleared up. I will keep posting back if nothing else just so this thread sticks around. Everybody has a different use case, but there's an underlying theme that Sync works sometimes and other times not at all. Since this is a paid feature and also fairly essential functionality for a lot of us, I feel it should be a priority to at least get it to a functional state.

My use case: I have a music library of about 6,000 items taking up about 88GB that I want to sync in Original quality. I have both a phone and tablet with ample room to store this information. I don't want to use my data plan to stream lossless content all the time, nor do I want to actively manage what I'm syncing every day. I'm looking for a consistent media experience across all of my devices, simply mirroring one another.

Currently: Plex will sync the first 20GB of items begrudgingly; I do need to restart both PMS and the App multiple times. After that it keeps ticking down the amount of files remaining without transferring a single one. All files are compatible with my devices. PMS and the Android App are fully up to date. There are no communication or permissions issues in my network.

Expected Use: Plex should have no issues syncing as many items as you have space for.

I don't mean to be harsh, and I've used Plex for years and really enjoyed it. However, the idea of syncing content between devices is older than iTunes and I don't see a reason why it shouldn't be functional in Plex regardless of use case. As a company Plex has been really good about addressing functionality issues, at least in my case, so I have no doubt this will be addressed. It's just a little surprising that it hasn't been yet.

Small percentage of files will not pull IMDb metadata

I created a brand new Movies library, with the "Plex Movie" agent, and set it to pull all metadata from IMDb (cast list, ratings, plot summary). This worked fine, but I've found that a few of my movies do not retrieve IMDb metadata. When I noticed this on one movie, I wrote a small program to scan the metadata xml files to see if there were other files failing to pull IMDb data.

Here is the full list:

  • Lights Out
  • Kubo and the Two Strings
  • Ouija: Origin of Evil
  • Suicide Squad

Interestingly, I found that another user had the same issue with Suicide Squad (http://forums.plex.tv/discussion/comment/1354255/), so it seems likely that the issue is not with my server setup.

Does anyone know what I can do to figure out what's going on here? I will be happy to post logs if someone can point me to the relevant log files.

Plex losing subtitle while playing

Since Plex last update (1.9.1.4272), the subtitle disappears after 1~2 minutes playing the video. This happens to me with downloaded subtitle or subtitle got by Opensubtitle native plugin on Plex.

I think it's not hardware issue:
i5 7500
16GB ram DDR4 2400MHz
HDD 1TB 7200RPM (with 150gb free)

Just like the title says, when I go into server settings on plex web app from local server it says that Plex should be available outside my network, but as soon as I try to connect from outside of the network it says that Plex isn't available. I have port forwarding set up correctly on my modem and my router is in bridge mode, so I'm not really sure what the problem is.

Plex Say's Remote Connections are available outside network, but I can't connect...
