When playing back videos filmed in portrait mode on iPhone, Plex transcoder flips the orientation of the video. So a 2160 x 3840 portrait mode video is played back @ 3840 x 2160, resulting in a stretched video.
Plex iOS version 4.12.1
Plex Server version 1.7.2.3878
I have an LG OLED55B6P TV with software version 05.30.3. PMS is version 1.9.2.4285 and the Plex app is version 3.13.1.
I have used Plex for about 6 months and since the beginning Plex has stopped playback of any video a few seconds before the actual end. The amount that gets clipped off seems to vary from as much as 120 to as few and 10 seconds.
I checked the forums and this seems to be a very common problem but I could not find any solutions.
I usually have multiple computers logged into the plex dashboard and I'm wondering if there is a way to differentiate between the different casting targets.
Currently all entries say "Plex Web (Firefox)" in the casting dropdown which is kind of unhelpful.
Is there a way to show what machine an entry belongs to?
I tried to login using the Plex web application from a Windows 10 computer that I cleared cookies on using Chrome and Microsoft Edge. I am presented with a login screen that asks me to login using Google, Facebook, or email. I tried to use the email that is associated with my Plex Pass account and my Plex Pass password. I receive an error message saying that my username or password is incorrect.
I cannot use my Plex Pass login and it does not seem to accept my Plex Pass login. It seems that you disabled the ability for us to use our old PlexPass login credentials, which did not use email addresses (I know, i’ve Used Plex for so long that I have an original login).
When playing something on PS4 with the latest Plex for PS4 client version (3.13.1), Plex Web's Status/Now Playing page no longer properly displays the client: Image may be NSFW. Clik here to view.
PlexPy is also affected (it shows "WebMAF" for platform).
Since purchasing my shield and becoming a plex pass member a couple months ago I have had an ongoing issue with a weak signal message when watching live TV. On several occasions the live TV screen freezes and becomes pixelated. I have tested the same channels using the live channels app and the HDhomerun app with no issues. I am currently on the 1.9 beta version and I am using two HDhomerun Connect tuners with the most current firmware. This seems to happen on any OTA channels that I receive. Any ideas on what the issue may be? is there a way to test the channel signal strength within Plex?
I have a massive problem with my Fire TV Sticks since the new interface update! Since that, the sound is completely broken when sound needs to be transcoded (i.e. DTS)! The music sounds "normal" but the voices are unbelievable quiet and sometimes you here absolutely nothing of them.
With my Fire TV 2. Gen is everything working fine.
Please fix that very soon! Most of my movies are unwatchable now!
I recently added some personal videos to a new "Videos" library, that I like to watch as "Folder View". Every time I select that, the same view is applied also to movies and TV-shows libraries. Is it the expected behaviour? I find this on PMP 1.3.8 on Mac OS, while PMP 2.x applies folder view "per library", not on a global level
Not sure if this is a bug, or feature, but it is annoying.
Every time I exit full screen I have to choose user (even though there is only ONE user). Though entering fullscreen to get the new interface design I do not have to choose user.
I am not able to stream 4k MKV files from my Synology DS1517+ NAS to my Sony KBR-75K9D 4k tv and I do not know at what point in the chain the issues lies and was hoping you could help me figure it out.
My hardware connections are:
NAS (holds all media files) - Wired to LAN via Gb Switch
Win10 PC (Intel i7-7567U) (Running Plex Server) - Wired to LAN via Gb Switch
Amazon FireTV (box not stick) (Running Plex client) - Wired to LAN via Gb Switch - Connected via HDMI to....
Denon AVR-X4400H AV Receiver - Connected via HDMI to.... Sony XBR-75K9D 4k TV
When I try to watch 4k MKV movies with H265 codec they all try to transcode and I get a message saying server isn't powerful enough.
I have read about editing profiles to allow DirectPlay/Direct Stream but I am not sure which 'device' I need to create a profile for.
Is this even possible?
Please can you point me at the correct information source.
For seemingly every playlist I have or create, after some time, regardless whether I am playing a playlist on IOS (from a synced playlist), or locally on my network, the last few seconds of songs starts randomly repeating.
I'm going to start keeping track of which songs repeat, and when, and see if I can help the developers track this one down. The frustration is that Plex has always done this, and it doesn't seem to be getting any better.
The repeating behaviour is very inconsistent. It does always seem to be the last 10 seconds or so of the song. Sometimes it will repeat a few times, like last 10 seconds, 5 seconds, 2.5 seconds... It seems to skip more the longer a playlist has been running.
Sometimes it will start repeating and keep doing it, sometimes only one skip and then songs play fine. No obvious patterns for certain songs always repeating.
I'm running a new server install on OS X, same behaviour on the new as the old. I've moved storage from a USB passthrough to a network attached storage through synoogy. No throughput competition or any issues on playing large movies or any other files.
Someone asked this question already in a post, and I've noticed months have passed - no answer - so I'm attempting to get this issue some light.
When using the Plex web client locally on my Windows 10 Pro PC, I can watch some content like TwitTV that has been recorded but not the Live version? Also when I try and watch any Channel that is mainstream like Fox, SyFy etc I get "This channel is not responding" or for the live TwitTV issue I get a playback error "An error occurred trying to play "Watch TWiT Live shaka1001 (Network)"?
I have Server Version 1.9.2.4285 and Web version 3.20.8.
If you could please tell me if I need to open certain ports on my router to get things working that would be great.
My local content that is stored on my NAS is available on all devices, just the Channels are causing me issues.
What started out as me trying to learn Python ended up being a quite useful app, so I thought I'd share what I've got so far.
This initially started out basically as a direct port of PlexWatchWeb from PHP to Python so it would be easier for most people to get running. I however am never satisfied so after much tinkering and tweaking I started slowly adding and fixing things that I thought needed attention.
If you have no idea what I'm talking about then that's fine too, if you came here to just find a tool to easily monitor and receive notify playback events from Plex you're at the right place.
A picture says a thousand words, so here's a few screenshots highlighting some of PlexPy's current functionality.

I have a good amount of FLAC content in my library. As it stands right now, if I attempt to play that back in the Plex Web App, it stops to buffer often. It's my understanding that the Plex Web app detects that Chrome/Chromium supports FLAC and chooses to direct stream that file instead of transcoding it. Is there a way for me to force the playback of music in Plex Web to always be transcoded? The quality settings under Settings -> Web -> Player seem to be for video, not music, so I'm curious.
OK, so since the Direct Play setting has been removed (somehow) from the Settings section in Plex on the Shield, I can no longer play my homevideo content in 4k (made in iMovie).
Plex now tries to transcode the content, but the transcoder seems to crash or samething cause after pressing play the spinner will load forever and eventually say the content can't be played. Also trying to let Plex 'Create optimized version' won't work: the conversion will get stuck at 1%.
I used to work around this by enabling the Direct Play option in Settings, but that is GONE (sigh...).
I have read somewhere that creating a custom profile xml file for the Shield would help, and enabling/forcing the directplay option in there, but if I am correct running PMS on a Shield won't let us anywhere near those files when the Shield is not rooted.
In short... I am stuck with many, many homevideos in 4k, which ONLY playback fine in a webbrowser with Plex, but they won't play on iOS, chromecast or the Shield player itself. Any fix?
As a user with access to multiple servers/libraries, it would be nice to be able to have the UI show media from ALL servers I have access to instead of having to switch to each server individually.
Further to this, if there is media that exists in several servers, it should default to playing the best quality version (perhaps favoring a local server over remote), but give me the option to choose which version to play.
I'd still want to be able to select individual servers, but at the top of the server list maybe have an All Servers option that shows this and allow the UI to default to this selection on startup of the client.
