Converted 4K h265 mkv to h264 mp4 and it still buffers playing back

I can see the transcoder causing CPU utilization to peak at 95-99%. Ive played back 4k before without too many buffering issues, but now it seems to be happening more excessively. CPU is Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4785T CPU @ 2.20GHz.

Plex is running in a VM but it's configured to max out whatever CPU resources it supports - 8 cores 2 sockets.

Plex playback shows Direct Play but the server shows it's trascoding h264 to h264 - why is there a need to transcode?

Any help would be greatly appreciated... I just got a 4k TV too and would like to use it :(

Does anyone face the same errors while viewing photos (JPG, CR2 at least)? I see that errors with 1834235 and 1844249 releases. The 1814139 without that issue. I'm using Plex on WD PR4100 NAS.

BUG: Samsung Plex app won't play video with 4.1/5.0 DTS audio.

TV: Samsung 55KS8005
TV update: 1201
Plex app: 3.1.0 (3.8.0)
Plex server: 1.8.4.4249

When I try to play a video with 4.1/5.0 DTS audio I get the error message "Conversion failed. The transcoder crashed or failed to start up." This error doesn't come up if I try to play the video in my browser, only when playing on the TV app.

I don't have this issue with any other of my video files with regular 5.1 DTS. The video in question is "Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls" with the DTS-HD audio file.

Fire TV Stick no longer plays 5.1 audio in Plex since last update

The plex app updated itself to 3.8.0 and no titles which used to play in 5.1 DTS or AAC downmix to 2.0. The fire stick is set to Dolby Digital Plus automatic and plex is set to Dolby Digital as well.

How do you manually load posters for tv shows?

I have a show in my tv library that does not have any poster art but it does have other meta data like description for episode and actors names. i ran the analyse feature and it did not work. when you look in edit tool you could see there is one pic for episode but they must be selected manually.
running win 8.1 plex Version 1.8.4.4249 . here are the logs.

Did Plex remove 12 Mbps bitrate limit on 1st gen Chromecast as well, or only Chromecast 2? Also, will both versions play .srt subtitles without transcoding? Thanks

Plex Media Player would not open on a MacBook Pro mid-2008. I did a clean install of the OS X 10.11.6, and the first thing I downloaded was Plex Media Player, but it still will not open. 'Service exited with abnormal code: 1'

I have been getting errors with channel streams on clients not on the local network. It is an IPTV channel.

For example, I could have my android phone with latest Plex app on my local wifi network and stream a live channel feed just fine. Then I could shut off the wifi so it goes to mobile data aka remote client viewing and I keep getting this error. But it is only on channel live streaming, watching movies and shows work fine. I have tried changing the "Internet upload speed" to 0 or clearing the field on the "Server > Remote Access" page, I have tried checking and unchecking "Direct Play/Direct Stream" and other boxes on the "Web > Player" page. No dice. I have tried changing the remote stream qualities both on the "Server" and the actual clients to "Original" and still didn't fix it.

Any help is appreciated.

comparing kodi add-on to android tv client

so as the kodi add-on is now available to all users, i have tried it.

firstly, no chapter support?

secondly, it's very slow at updating changes in the plex server.
example, i have a partially watched tv show on the deck. i marked it as watched in plex web and it disappears from the deck.
on android tv client the deck will update almost straight away. plex in kodi won't. it seems it takes a complete closing of kodi and re-loading for it to pick up changes.

thirdly, no way to display playback method on-screen?
in android tv client i can set it to display on-screen if it's direct playing or transcoding etc etc.

I just turned on Plex on a FireTV and my first thought was that it was broken. What the hell is a giant black menu bar doing taking up 30% of my 65 inch screen? That's over 600 square inches of screen space. Why does the time bar fill half the f'ing screen? I can only assume you were trying to make it easier for your 90 year old grandmother to find minute 42 of her favorite porno on her iPhone without getting confused. I'm not watching Plex on an Apple watch, I'm not an overaged US senator with a brain tumor, and even though the old Plex UI was bottom tier it wasn't more annoying than a Clinton era VCR. Remember the huge cluster F when Microsoft tried to make their whole platform "mobile friendly"? Yeah, they wish they could forget Windows 8, too.

Sync stuck on "Waiting to download"...

This is a recent issue that's starting to affect only one of my Android devices (S7).

My other devices are syncing normally (nVidea Shield tablet, another S7 and S5s)

I have one show that's sync'd to my device, unwatched only.

Server shows items ready to sync:

Device goes through sync cycle and shows complete:

No downloads start...whether on the same network as the server or external.

I've included the device logs from an external sync attempt....lots of "404 Not Found" errors.

Any guidance would be appreciated.

Fire TV Box Issues

After the update I can no longer use plex on my fire box in a wi-fi situation. It takes forever to load a menu, or start a video. Most of the time it won't play at all. I do get a message saying I've been disconnected from my server. If it does play it will stop after a few minutes and then I just get the buffering circle.

If I wire my fire box it runs as it usually does (which is good).

So my question is what changed that would prevent it from working as it was in the past? Is there a setting I can tweak to help this issue?

Keeping my boxes wired in my house is just not realistic.

LG (Netcast) App keeps popping the progress bar up

I am running:

Plex for LG (NetCast)
2.13.3
Plex TV
LG (NetCast)

For some reason, at seemingly random points through playback the progress bar will display onscreen for a few seconds. It doesn't interrupt playback, but is a little annoying that it keeps appearing.

Any ideas why this might be, and/or what I can do to try and diagnose the cause?

Bugs in recent update?

Every since my web plex client updated a few days ago I am having issues with getting errors when transitioning between episodes. When I don't have an error the show usually freezes within a couple minutes. Attempting to restart the show will not fix the problem it just tries to connect continuously. Re-launching the player is the only way to fix it and then the show plays normally until the next episode. Also it has been occasionally freezing at the very end of the episode and appears to be buffering, but never loads. This is happening on any machine that I am using Chrome on. So far 3 of my own machines and my girlfriends laptop as well. This didn't happen to either of us before the update.

Warning

Use at your own risk! This plugin assumes that you manage all your videos with Plex (and none with Kodi). You might lose data already stored in the Kodi video and music databases as this plugin directly changes them. Don't worry if you want Plex to manage all your media (like you should ;-)).

Some people argue that PKC is 'hacky' because of the way it directly accesses the Kodi database. See here for a more thorough discussion.

What does PKC do?

PKC synchronizes your media from your Plex server to the native Kodi database. Hence:

  • Use virtually any other Kodi add-on
  • Use any Kodi skin, completely customize Kodi's look
  • Browse your media at full speed (cached artwork)
  • Automatically get additional artwork (more than Plex offers)
  • Enjoy Plex features using the Kodi interface

Download and Installation

Install PKC via the PlexKodiConnect Kodi repository below (we cannot use the official Kodi repository as PKC messes with Kodi's databases). See the github wiki installation manual for a detailed guide. Please use the stable version except if you really know what you're doing. Kodi will update PKC automatically.

Important Notes

  1. If you are using a low CPU device like a Raspberry Pi or a CuBox, PKC might be instable or crash during initial sync. Lower the number of threads in the PKC settings under Sync Options. Don't forget to reboot Kodi after that.
  2. Compatibility:
    • PKC is currently not compatible with Kodi's Video Extras plugin. Deactivate Video Extras if trailers/movies start randomly playing.
    • PKC is not (and will never be) compatible with the MySQL database replacement in Kodi. In fact, PKC replaces the MySQL functionality because it acts as a "man in the middle" for your entire media library.
    • If another plugin is not working like it's supposed to, try to use PKC direct paths

Known Larger Issues

Solutions are unlikely due to the nature of these issues

  • A Plex Media Server "bug" leads to frequent and slow syncs, see here for more info
  • Plex Music when using Addon paths instead of Native Direct Paths: Kodi tries to scan every(!) single Plex song on startup. This leads to errors in the Kodi log file and potentially even crashes. See the Github issues for more details. Workaround: use PKC direct paths instead of addon paths.

Background Sync:
The Plex Server does not tell anyone of the following changes. Hence PKC cannot detect these changes instantly but will notice them only on full/delta syncs (standard settings is every 60 minutes)

  • Toggle the viewstate of an item to (un)watched outside of Kodi
