I just moved my server from windows to linux recently. Everything is fine except updating is a bit of a manual chore now. Is there a way for me to get the updates to be a little more streamlined?

New Roku firmware seems to cause Plex to crash in the middle of playback
ok so recently I have noticed playback on Roku (the only device I really use) has started to act up, I have set several playlists as I know the play option on a series would stop moving to the next episode after a few.
playlist worked great, I could keep the media streaming all night no issues at all until recently.
1st it started with the stream being hung at 33% and just stalling there forever, a simple pause and play would pick it right back up fine on the exact episode it was stuck on.
now I am noticing sometimes when it gets stuck I am presented with a white glitched screen and a green square or two up at the top corner, nothing has changed about my library, and I updated the rokus and it has not stopped.
both rokus are the ultra rokus and they are completely wired to the router with only cisco gigabit switches in between them and the router.
this started showing up maybe a month ago, anyone else have this issue? any fix?
I tried putting my reserved ip of the PMS in the connection options of the Roku settings, no difference, the PMS is on a machine that is very powerful and my monitoring software is reporting my hard disks are 100% fine, I updated the rokus, no change.
this is really aggravating since I love to have the tv run all night otherwise it goes off and wakes me up, call me crazy but I cant sleep unless its running at low low volume. hasn't been able to make it through a night but once in a month.
The PMS does not appear to be stopping on my machine. aka I don't have to reboot to get it back up (my system is set to auto login due to no run as service option)
Have tested on two different Plex servers and also Plex roku and Plex classic roku please help here

Playback error "shaka3015" keeps interrupting my viewing pleasure
The web app has worked splendidly ever for several months, but ever since this Friday, when my web app got some sort of update (the GUI changed over night for me), my videos keep on interrupting. It's the same error code. Please tell me what this code means, and if it's something I can fix!

TCL Roku OS smart TV and plex... any issues, settings, hints...?
New platform for me, picked up a TCL 55" 55s405 with roku os... any gotchas here...?
tcl 55s405 (2017 model) with roku TV firmware 7105x which it updated on initial installation 23 Aug...
plex channel app is version 4.4 build 1
initial testing seemed pretty good.. threw some 1080 and 4K HEVC and some native 1080 MKV content at it.. all played (short sessions) fine over wireless... did notice that this client tends to buffer a bit more at start and when using FF RW etc...
what say the plex community .. any issues or settings hints.. etc..

Issue with Firefox and transcoding
Hello.
I have an issue with the web app when using Firefox (latests version of Firefox on Mac and on Windows).
Everytime I have a user starting a video media with transcoding, the server transcode the whole file immediately. That makes my CPU burning for 3 to 20 minutes depending of the video (TV show or movies).
My issue is that most of the users I share my library with, start a show and pause it for 30 minutes and then come back at ti. Everytime my CPU transconde the whole file "for nothing".

I know that this issue is not there if using Safari / Chrome (or even the plex app on ios).
Is there something I can do to have the same behavior on Firefox as on Safari (which is transcoding on the fly) ?

Transcode 5.1 audio to 2.1 on New Google Chromecast.
Hi all,
I've searched this topic and found quite a few threads from a while back but i was wondering if there were any more recent solutions?
I've belatedly found that any AAC or AC3 5.1 audio streams for movies cannot be played on Chromecast - I've just bought the most recent 2nd gen dongle not the Ultra.
Can anything be done by Plex to mix the 5.1 stream into stereo only so that it can be heard? The only other option I've seen is to re-encode the culprit movie files which I;m hoping is a last resort...
Any help appreciated!

What does the error "shaka1001 (Network)" mean?
I have searched high and low and nothing explains this error.

This was during playback of a television show from a Plex Cloud server (Version 1.5.2.246) using the Plex Web App (Version 3.17.3) on a Windows 10 machine in Chrome (Version 59.0.3071.115)
Any explanation as to what this error translates to?

Plex Media Server Hardware Transcoding on Synology DS216+II
Please keep in mind that HW Transcoding with Plex Media Server ("PMS") is still in an experimental stage and requires a Plex Pass.
I did manage to do get HW Transcoding working on my new Synology DS216+II by doing to following.
- Stop your current PMS
- Download the PlexMediaServer build 1.8.1.4140 - Hardware Transcoding Preview 4 for Synogly from this link
https://downloads.plex.tv/plex-media-server/1.8.1.4140-82ea538ca/PlexMediaServer-1.8.1.4140-82ea538ca-x86_64.spk - Install downloaded PMS. If you current PMS is higher than 1.8.1 you need to remove your current PMS installation first.
- Start the new installed PMS
- Start Plex and goto Server -> Transcode and turn on the hardware acceleration option.
- Go to Control Panel -> Task Scheduler
- Create -> Triggered Task -> User-defined script
- In General, Task: "Allow transcoder hardware access", User: root, Event: Boot-up, Check Enabled
In Task settings, run command:

10 . Restart PMS and HW Transcoding should be enabled on your Synology DS216+II
Plex is investigating a solution to make the PMS with hardware decoding working out-of-the-box on a Synology NAS. The issue is caused on how Synology configured the access the transcoder device on the NAS. A solution has been found and should be implemented in the next PMS release with hardware transcoding.

IPad/IOS Sync and Delete issues
Hi Guys
few comments and issues 1. When Sync to IPad I noticed that you need to be logged into the device and Plex open to Sync, it should sync in background like Netflix does, can you fix this, very annoying,. it stops downloading if the screen locks, not ideal
- I noticed I cannot delete shows/files I synced if the Ipad is not connected to Wifi or internet, this is just crazy!

Watched state is lost after leaving Plex app
I have a two Plex servers running, one is a Debian server which is only capable of 2 streams at a time so I needed a second. Only had my email server available to use so I figured I could consolidate the use of email and Plex with a ClearOS (CentOS 7) install. So far it works great, but I noticed something odd yesterday and today. All of my TV shows I have watched the last couple days showed as watched when I went to exit my Roku app, but tonight it shows all of them as unwatched. If I go through and mark them as watched it holds that status fine, but if I let it continuously play through multiple episodes it will show them as watched until I close the app. Upon loading the app again the episodes are marked as unwatched.
This behavior does not exist when streaming from the Debian server, only the CentOS based server. Both are connected to the same Linux shared storage library. Is anyone else experiencing this issue?

Plex won't update automatically on unraid (official docker image)
Hello guys,
first of all, plex in a docker is AWESOME, specially with official support.
My only issue for now, that it doesn't update automatically. Plexpy notifies me about a new update, i check the docker page, 'check for updates', and nothing shows up for plex.
I have plexpass (plexinc/pms-docker:plexpass) configured.
What should I put into the 'Version' tag? nothing? leave it blank? I used to have 'latest' in, not i changed it to plexpass, maybe this is very it checks the update channel, but still no luck.
the only way to update the docker, is to restart it manually, every time i get a notification from plexpy.
(there is an unraid plug-in, which auto updates dockers i tell it to. but it only updates, if it detects there is an update)
anyone has the same issue?

Plex now says it doesn't allow secure connections and I can't log in?
I just went to try and log into my plex server at work and it came up (after I logged in with my 4 digit pin) and it comes up with a page that says "it does not allow secure connections." picture below...
It was working last night. And now I have no way of getting into the server. I have tried Allow once, Allow always and it reloads the screen back to log in and then it won't ever log in.
I am not sure how to fix this. I have tried remotely logging in, I tried logging in on a computer in the home network. I have turned off plex server and back on in the Synology NAS that it is run on. Any ideas?

Couldn't create the playback session for this item - AppleTV Plex just stopped working
I use (well used) my Plex app on my AppleTV on a daily basis. Just the other day though it completely stopped working. Now everything I try to watch, even items that worked fine in the past, just fails to play with the error "Couldn't create the playback session for this item".
The items play fine in the Web player. I have tried rebooting my AppleTV and my Plex media service. I store my media on a Drobo 5N NAS and I have tried rebooting that as well.
PlexMediaServer says it is up to date. Version 1.7.5.4035
AppleTV App should be update, Version 1.15 (6451)

"Video has neither a video stream nor an audio stream" makes no sense given as I said it plays fine on the Web client, and these are items that played fine just a few days ago. I can also play them just fine using standard Windows players like VLC, and Kodi can play them as well. There is nothing wrong with the files.
Logs attached, and I also enabled the Apple TV log submission, and tried to play an item to get the error.

Not able to find media files in Plex Media Server
Hello all!
I'm new to Plex, but am experienced in the ins and outs of Linux (beauty of being a Software Engineer I suppose). I'm having issues getting my media files (currently encoded as *.mkv files) to show up when I have my Plex web interface scan for files. Let me run through my setup.
- PMS is running on Ubuntu 17.04.
- I've got the media files sequestered in the following directory structure: /TV Shows/Stargate SG-1/Season 01/Stargate SG-1 - s01e04 - The_Broca_Divide.mkv
- This is the script I run to set permissions, with the target (at the "TV Shows" level) passed as $1:
sudo chown -R root.multimedia "$1"
sudo chmod -R 775 "$1"
sudo find "$1" -type f -exec chmod 770 '{}' + - The multimedia group includes my sudo-capable user and the plex user
I believe my naming schema matches what is in the Plex FAQ. I've tried renaming by eliminating spaces and hyphens from the show name, to no avail.
I'm uncertain where to go now, any help would be appreciated!
