I have a Plex server running on my PC -- latest version, no VPN activated. My other PC's, iPhone, iPad, wife's Android phone (Still on Kitkat) all see my server just fine over both my local network, and public internet.

I purchased two new tablets for my kids today (running Marshmallow), and installed the Plex app. Neither can discover my server via either local network or public internet. They can only see their own local content. I took one of their old tablets, and uninstalled/reinstalled Plex, and it can no longer see my server either!

I've tried the Plex client from both the Play store and Amazon, same scenario both ways.

Any ideas / thoughts?

I have the new Android client and a synology NAS as server.

I have no problems to direct stream all my videos, but I can't sync my videos without transcoding. Is there a way to disable transcoding and force syncing my videos. I think it is up to me to choose a video play (like vlc) that can play my content on my android devices.

If there is a way to sync without transcoding please tell me  <_<

For the last few episodes of various TV shows I've added to my library, plex is suddenly refusing to add metadata. I've not changed anything about my naming scheme or my folder hierarchy, nothing at all has changed, but now it just will not fetch metadata, no matter how many times I remove and re-add the files, hit refresh or yell at it :(

I've checked the log and there doesn't look to be anything screamingly obviously wrong (I could've missed something, but I don't think so).

Is anyone else experiencing this at all?

so I get a windows low RAM warning on my server PC ( win 10, ^GB ram. task manager is jammed up with 20+ instances of new transcoder exe tasks., all buringin CPU cycles. I have no clients active. there are no optimised versions in my folders and I did not ask for any optimisation.

All I did today - possible trigger- was test enable DlNA server to see if my samsung TV could now work with that ( it seemed to in that I coudl view folders - unlike with previsou versions which used to show empty folders>. I had then turned of the TV a couple of hours agao, I never actually streamed any content.
I think I may have seen somethign like thei before whne the client Samsung TV's built in DLNA contacts the plex serer in DLNA mode,, just ot view files and folders it triggers a huge amount of server side processing ?

I stopped & restarted PMS to break the log jam, and ther are no rogue transcoder processes running now
checking: my logs are full of stuff like this, :
the entires go on and on, incrementing the ID by 1 each time:- waht is bugged or broken please ?

I just got my Roku 4 and I intended to use it mostly with Plex, but when I started watching content I noticed that the picture quality is very bad. The whole image had a faded grey tint over it and wasn't sharp. On my PS4 the image was brilliant. I tried different content, changing the HDMI cable and the HDMI port on the TV. Nothing works! I checked the settings on the Plex player and all seemed correct. Any ideas?

I am new to Forum and not sure this is the proper discussion area for my issue. I have the QNAP TVS-871 and trying to use the PLEX app on my Popcorn Hour A-400. More than half of my MKV's will not play. If I convert them to MP4 they will play, but this not a good solution. I get no error messages, just a spinning wheel and then a return to the wall. I have the same problem on both of my A-400's.

I have looked at MediaInfo and see nothing that accounts for this problem. I can play all the MKV's on my Amazon Fire TV and I can also play them by setting up a share on the A-400, bypassing PLEX (but the jukebox on the A-400 sucks). No one else using the PLEX app on their Popcorn hour reports problems and there is no setup involved. Being unfamiliar with PLEX I do not know how to troubleshoot/isolate the problem.

If you are having the problem, that national characters in your subtitles, that are not embedded in the movie, but either downloaded by yourself and put next to the movie (Sidecar SRT) or a subtitle automatically fetched by the  Open-Subtitle Agent, are displayed as garbage, then this Agent might be the answer for you!

In short, it'll make sure, that your subtitle files are encoded in utf-8, so national character-sets doesn't show as garbage in the players

Version releases

After updating Plex Media Server App for Seagate Personal Cloud to version 0.9.12.11.1406-8403350, the App Manager console screen now displays the message "Automatic startup has been disabled for this app. Confirm that the app is compatible with the device's firmware".

As a result the Plex Media Server no longer auto-restarts after a power failure (which causes a restart of the Seagate NAS).

It would be much appreciated if the dialog for matching a movie could include more details about the movie beyond just the name and (sometimes) year. Other details that might help identify the correct match might be:

• Lead Actor
• Producer
• Studio name
• A simple link to the web page for the result.

I've recently re-loaded my entire collection after an upgrade to Windows 10. Many of the movies match automatically just fine, but others match incorrectly or not at all. Going through those has been time consuming due to the fact that after searching the dialog will often contain several results with the same name and either no or identical years. At that point it's just a guessing game as to which one is correct. If you choose poorly, repeating the process wastes time, particularly if fetching the results is slow as it has to re-fetch them again over and over. Perhaps simply caching the results would help?

Hi, I have PMS running on Ubuntu 15.04, and a Toshiba Smart TV (40L3451DB) connected to my LAN via Ethernet. Plex app on the TV sees my libraries just fine and will play music, but won't play any videos. App version is 2.4.30, (Smart TV Alliance 2.0).

I can watch videos remotely on my laptop through the web interface, and I can watch them on my Android smartphone.

The TV app sees the same videos, all the metadata's there, but it won't play, it waits a while then gives the "did not start playing in time error).

Network connection to the TV says it's at about 13Mb/s, I've dropped the quality to 2Mb/s, still get the error, can't play any videos on the TV at all.

Any ideas?

This post will always contain the latest version of the Plex service wrapper.

This is not official or affiliated with Plex in any way and was originally made for personal use. Treat it as such and please don't bug the Plex devs about it. (bug them about Plex not running as a service natively by all means :P) feel free to post your questions here and I will do my best to help. 

The service application was created to enable Plex Media Server to operate as a service in windows.

It has been reported to work on the following OS's:

To update Plex Media Server, first stop the service, then run the upgrade as usual. when the installer is complete, start the service again.

[WARNING] Read below if you intend to change the service account.

If you change the service account type or the service user account from your current configuration, your application data (and therefore your library) will not be available when you start Plex.

If you want to run the service under a different account, Then you should first move your Plex application data folder to a common folder (Personally I have mine on a second drive of my server "D:\Plex").

If the application data is left under the previous account's folder, then the new account will not have permission to get to it.

Once you have the application data in a common place, after starting Plex with the new credentials, go to the web interface -> server settings -> general -> show advanced -> "The path where local application data is stored" and change this to the location you just moved your Plex application data to. Restart Plex and you should be good to go.

When asked for your credentials during install make sure you fully qualify the user name.

If you are on a domain, the username is entered as domain\username.

If you aren't on a domain, the domain is the computer itself so replace the domain name with the computer name eg. (mycomputersname\username or .\username).

The install includes a tray application to start and stop the service, view logs for the service and open the web manager.

Media location:

When Plex runs as a service, there is no user session created. Plex will run in a non-interactive session (session 0). This means that any drive mappings you have created will not be available.

If your media is located on a network device, The Plex sections must be set up to look at a UNC path NOT a mapped drive.

Auxiliary applications:

Applications you want to have running with Plex. An example is Plexconnect, the python script for using plex with an apple TV.

I've added this after a request from a user to wrap Plexconnect the same way I did Plex, I figured it would work OK in the same service. I don't use Plexconnect personally but I tested this new system with several other applications and they all ran up fine. 

To add an auxiliary application, using the task bar icon, go to settings, you will get a new window. click the add button to add a new application, and the remove button to remove the currently selected one.

Name is a user friendly name for the application, file is the file to execute and arguments is any command line arguments you want to add.

Save the settings and the next time the service is started the application you specified will start too. Check the logs (again through the task bar icon) to see how you got on.  

I would suggest making sure that the application runs as expected in a normal user session BEFORE attempting to run it as an auxiliary application.

If you are installing Plex for the first time, I'd still recommend moving the application data folder, the user folder isn't the best spot.

I have synced music to my iPhone, and in the top-left I select my phone name (Local and synced content), but when I look at my server as I play synced music, PMS shows the song is streaming.

Shouldn't it be only playing on my iPhone since the songs are synced? (I'm trying to avoid cell phone data usage).

Some of you may have followed the recent development on the original Subliminal.bundle by @bramwalet.

I've made some serious changes, improvements and bugfixes to Subliminal.bundle during the last few weeks, with the help of some very nice people such as @PMAdmin, @chopeta, @BlueToxic and others.

As the direction of this project has moved a long way, I thought it was time to evolve from simply being a personal fork of Subliminal.bundle to something more dedicated.

Plugin Description

Sub-Zero aims to solve your subtitle problems by automatically downloading the hopefully best subtitles there are, for your individual video file.

Subtitles are a problem? Yep, they definitely are. I myself use this plugin on a daily basis as my wife has a serious hearing condition where subtitles help us to be able to watch our favourite TV series and movies together. Subtitles pose a generic struggle: matching your media file perfectly. This is as hard as it gets. Thankfully there are a bunch of libraries and services out there, that help with that.

Sub-Zero is far from being perfect, but with recent development and planned features, we're really getting there.

Its core is based on the works of Diaoul, who created the subliminal library, as well as enzyme, to parse MKV metadata. In addition to that Sub-Zero uses the extremely well-made guessit library made by wackou.

Sub-Zero still is under heavy development but has recently reached a stable state. I need you to report bugs and tell me your opinion on new features.

I have just discovered Plex by accident in the last week and installed it on a desktop as a trial system.

I am aiming though to install it on my Windows Home Server 2011, and to principally access it via my AppleTV 4th Generation that is arriving today.

Meine Frage hat vermutlich weniger mit Plex selbst zu tun, als mit meinen Media Komponenten. Ich hoff jemand kann mir das hier trotzdem beantworten.
Vorab meine Geräte: Samsung UE65JS8500, Denon AVR-X3200W und als Plex Player und Server verwende ich einen Intel Nuc6i5syh.
Wenn ich richtig liege, müssten der TV und AVR problemlos 10Bit, BT.2020 und HDR, anzeigen bzw. durchschleifen können.
Ich benutze den aktuellen Plex Media Player 1.1.2 und habe mir von Samsung dieses 4k, HDR, etc. Testfile geladen.
Während ich die Datei (direct play) abspiele, kann ich im Denon AVR unter Information einsehen, welches Video bzw. Audio Signal vom Nuc ankommt. Hier wird mir trotz 10Bit und BT.2020 File nur 8Bit und RGB angezeigt, bzw. egal welche Videodatei ich abspiele, ändert sich nichts am Farbraum und co. Das selbe Signal wird mir auch angezeigt, wenn ich am Desktop oder im Plex Menü bin.
Kann mir bitte jemand erklären wie man diese ganzen neuen UHD Features auf den Schirm bringt?

Und falls das zufällig jemand weiß.... Der Samsung TV hat eine Einstellung UHD Color Space. Hier kann bzw. soll man den jeweiligen HDMI Anschluss auf UHD umstellen, wenn man dementsprechende Geräte hat. Wenn ich nun UHD Color Space einschalte, wird mir beim Denon RGB als Farbraum angezeigt, schalte ich UHD Color Space wieder aus, wird mir Ycbcr 4:2:0 angezeigt, was ist nun besser?

Ben consapevole che le playlist vengono fatte a livello utente e quindi l'utente A non vede le playlist dell'utente B, sono a richiedere se qualcuno ha trovato un modo per esportare le playlist di un utente e importarle nell'utente successivo oppure di condividere una playlist tra utenti.

Sono discretamente sicuro che non sia fattibile allo stato attuale delle cose, ma provo a lanciare la domanda nella speranza che qualcuno abbia avuto la stessa necessita'.

La mia idea sarebbe di avere un'unica libreria con dentro solo i film e diverse playlist per genere.
Allo stato attuale delle cose, invece, ho un sacco di librerie e questa soluzione non mi piace.

I'm told an update to the Plex Server is available and I understand I have to download it through my browser and upload it manually but which version do I use for TAS-268, ARM, ARMV7-X31 or ARMV7-X31+?

I know my unit uses an ARM A7 but do I use the vanilla ARM version or one of the ARMV7 variants?
