DS412+ Recent update to 1.3.X has stopped my nas hibernating

Hello,

(cheesed off lurker here)

Every so often PMS updates (or DSM, or a combination) kills off the hibernation on my DS412+. For those on this forum telling people that PMS prevents hibernation, this is not true in my experience. Hibernation has worked for me (mostly) and continued to do so when I signed in to a PLEX account (since the hacking and new SSL thing) Now that I have updated to 1.3.x. my server doesn't hibernate and I can't reinstall the previous version (without deleting the packages and starting again). My server is just on the local network and all of the loggging/scanning functions that I can see are turned off/ set to manual. Stopping PMS on DSM resolves the issue.

Now, I have been through this before. I tend to keep older server versions down to experience. I think the last one that was ok for me was 1.2.6.xxxx. I have been down the deletion / fresh install before, but I have 5TB now and I would rather not do that again if possible.

Can someone who is aware of the PMS codebase changes comment?

Plex Server Connects and Disconnects after few seconds

Hello, I have My Plex running fine in house but its not visable from the internet. I tried manual port and disabling firewalls and nothing. I had this happen before but for some reason it just evenually connected. Plex is up to date on windows 10 and graphics threw chrome. Any help would be great, Thanks

NAS for data, PC for server

Hello,

I hope you guys can help me with the following.
I'm planning to buy a NAS for data storage, the plex server will be running from my windows computer.
I've been reading around about the different kinds of NAS devices available, and, if necessary, I am willing to pay a decent amount of money for my future device.
The problem is: I don't know what specifications I really need for my setup, and ofcourse, if not necessary, I prefer a cheaper model.
Newer devices advertise on transcoding, but this will be done by my pc.
If not necessary, I would rather not pay for this option, but the 'stronger' models seem to have this option more or less (good or bad) included anyway.
I will be playing videos with max 18mbps for 1 user, (or sometimes 18mbps devided for three users max).
Can someone inform me about the minimum requirements?
Do I really need 4gb RAM, intel, quadcore?
At this moment I am looking further into the Qnap TS-253A.
If someone has a better proposal for a NAS, please tell!

Amazon Echo and Plex! "Alexa, tell the home theater to put on a good episode of Always Sunny"

I have been spending the last few weeks working on an Amazon Echo app to create a voice interface to Plex.

You can do simple queries, like "what's on deck," but far more interestingly you can actually request a particular show or episode to start playing on your Plex client.

Here's a demonstration video of the first proof of concept:

I've been doing a lot more work since then, and now have support for playing a specific episode, confirming the show if Alexa is unsure that she heard you right, and a random high-rated (top 10%) episode.

I'll be creating a new demo video once I get all of my 1.0 features in, and then it'll be on to multi-user support so that this can actually be published and made available on the Alexa app store.

Great news for Plex and Amazon Echo fans alike!! I am going to be working directly with Plex to make an official Alexa Plex skill, which will be totally streets ahead.

With this partnership we'll be able to make this much more than I could have alone. Keep your eyes peeled to Plex's official channels for news when it's ready

Plex Plays at double speed or hangs

Hi, Please can someone help?
Whenever I try to play a ripped Blu-Ray (MKV), it will either just not play (Plex just hangs on the title screen) or if it does play, it plays at double speed.
I am running the latest version of Plex Media Server (2.12.5) on a QNAP TS-853A (QTS 4.2.2) and connected by direct HDMI to my Oppo Blu-ray player and to a cinema projector.
Movies ripped to MKV using DVDFab set to have same picture and sound settings as the original disc.
If I play direct from the QNAP (Not using Plex) then all movies and TV series play perfectly. (no hanging/ 'damaged file' messages and all play at normal speed)
Any ideas what may be causing this?

Encoding Assistance and other questions.

I recently put together my first plex home media server. I'm running Windows 10 with 120gb SSD drive and two 4tb drives for media storage. My processer is an AMD FX-8350 Eight Core 4GHz along with 8gb of RAM. If you need any additional information please let me know. I initially ripped 3 movies with MakeMkv and then encoding them using the high profile settings on Handbrake just to test the server. I was unable to get my PlayStation 4 to play the movies but my Roku sticks didn't seem to have much of a problem once I tweaked some settings. I'm also able to view movies on my iPhone without any issues. Since then I have been ripping my movie collection and now I'm at a point where I want to encode them but I'm not sure what the optimal settings for Handbrake will be. Most of the Rokus in the house are sticks but there are a couple of 3's and if necessary I will transition them all to 3's or 4's. I've done some search's on the forums and located the Rokoding guide but now the site is unavailable. What settings will give me the best chance at direct play and avoid transcoding? I've also noticed on the status alerts that my server continuously says "opened connection to _________ media server, listening for events" and then immediately "unable to listen for events on _______ media server." Does anyone know what might be causing that issue?

I apologize for the long post and I appreciate any help.

Questions about Audio support in Linux

I had been using the official client for sometime, but all the sudden it decided to not take the keyboard as an input and only let me use the mouse. :/

So I am considering switching to OpenPHT, converting my mediaPC to xubuntu so it can double as a retro gaming rig, home theater, and a few other items.

On Linux will OpenPHT support bitstreaming and the higher end audio codecs, such os Dolby True HD, Atmos and so on.

Resume is not wokring for transcoding

I have Samsung SmartTV UN60JS7200, Galaxy S7 and xpenology NAS.
It is working fine to play back from beginning movies in TV and beginning/resume movies in Galaxy S7 but when resume in TV, Plex is stop after playback while 0.1~1 seconds for transcoding and direct streaming.
And then TV is not working to backwards. TV is only working to finish Plex app, so I should finish Plex. also when try to backwards, TV is not responding at black screen.
It is like to occured exception on smart phone app

I'm getting a lot of buffering going on, so I'm checking the log files. I am getting errors after starting up PMS. Can you help me figure out why I'm getting these errors, and how to fix them? Here's my log file contents:

[REL] Google Music Channel

I am releasing a Google Music channel that should work for all Plex clients. I forked the current channel created by the user Maik and added a bunch of new features. If anyone has any issues please post your log files and I will be happy to take a look. Also, if you have any request for new features please let me know. I will be sending out a request to get this added to the Unsupported Appstore as well.

 

If you are running into any issues please post your log files. I won't be able to help you without them.

Connection to server not fast enough

My server is setup on Windows 10 installed on a SSD, with Xeon E3-1245v2, and16GB of ram connecting to my network over gigabit lan. Server version is 1.3.3.3148-b38628e which is the latest version which I updated to a couple days ago and is where my trouble starts.

After updating, immediately following, my server has dropped out of the network completely, my libraries won't load and whenever Plex does work, I constantly get the "connection to server not fast enough" message, or it will say there was a problem playing this file and skip to the next one (which it would do over and over again).

I use the web app primarily and the same thing happens in all browsers. I'm playing content over my local network natively, no coversions, even connected to the server through the same switch, and yet for some reason, the connection isn't fast enough to stream 2mb/s 1080 content. Except it is, I can play all files perfectly fine even high bitrates, no buffering, no stuttering, but when playing through a TV show, it always stops at the end of the episode instead of continuing to the next one because "the connection to the server isn't fast enough."

I've had this problem before, and no luck in getting it resolved. What gives?

Plex web not working since last update

My PMS (latest version) is running on a raspberry pi.
Usually I can open http://rpi:32400/web/index.html without loggin in.

Since last update (i think) I get always the sign in/register screen.
Even if I enter my credentials the gui says that no server was found.

Restarting plex or pi didn't help.

Android app works without issues.

Has anybody an idea to get the web app working again or is this really a bug?

Transcode works better than direct play

So last night I was watching movies on my Plex server from my fathers house perfectly (Direct play). This morning we are trying to watch a movie being direct played and it takes about a minute to even get the movie started, when it does get started it skips every minute or two. I should note that I use Sickbeard mp4 converter to change the container to MP4 on all my movies. I did a little bit of testing and found out that It will transcode (MKV) perfectly fine, but when its direct play, it lags like crazy. Ive even tried movies that were working perfectly last night and they are extremely slow today. Ive emptied my trash from plex and this didn't fix the issues. I only have about 50 movies in my plex library/external hard drive. I have run out of ideas on what I can do to fix this.

Will Plex Media Player 32 bits version be available?

My PMS runs on the same machine I use to run PHT in my living room. It's a 32 bits Windows 7 and I don't want to reinstall everything. Like someone else said, there is a lots of 32 bits PC still out there that are capable of running all Plex software. It would be sad to force everyone to "buy" a new version of Windows to support a free software.

Recently the Xbox one and one s is undergoing a preview with the blu ray app to enable dolby atmos and Bitstream lossless audio being decoded by the receiver so I'm just wondering well you guys down at plex are working into enabling it somehow with the plex app because it sucks that it's the blu ray app only
