Xbox One S 4K Direct Play

$

Hi All

I've tried searching the forums but cant quite find the same issue replicated.

I'm having an issue where no matter what I try, I can't get any 4K MKV content to direct stream to either my Xbox One S or my Samsung KS8000.
I've tried several different sources, HEVC MPEGV and MPEG4, all with DTS audio with all of them transcoding despite selecting original quality. The Xbox One S transcodes to 1080 and for some reason the KS8000 transcodes to 720 despite both being set to 2160.

I have read that the Xbox One S doesn't support DTS, but that doesn't explain the KS8000 not being able to play without transcoding?

I've had a look at the logs for the Xbox One S and for some reason it seems to recognise it only as a 1080 player, unless I'm reading this incorrectly:

Jun 24, 2017 11:32:11.711 [14272] DEBUG - (Capabilities) Platform 'Xbox One' not matched by plugin platform requirements
Jun 24, 2017 11:32:11.711 [14272] DEBUG - (Capabilities) Platform 'Xbox One' not matched by plugin platform requirements

My server is only a NUC 52450 so isn't powerful enough to transcode 4k without serious lag, but direct stream should be able to play everything unless I've misunderstood the update done allowing HEVC and DTS support for Xbox One S a few months ago. I've also tried streaming via my desktop which has a i7 970, which can transcode the 4k on the fly, but is still transcoding to 1080 rather than 2160.

I was also under the impression that if I was having issues with Xbox One S codec support, the KS8000 should be able to play anything 4k as a direct stream, but that seems to be even worse than the Xbox, and transcodes to 720 according to PlexPy.

http://support.xbox.com/en-ZA/xbox-one/apps/mkv-support

The Xbox and TV are set up correctly from what I understand as games play as 4k HDR (I get the notification on my TV regarding HDR) and I can watch 4k youtube videos etc. Everything is hardwired gigabit network,( aside from the KS8000 which only has 100mb/s networking courtesy of Samsung?!).

Any advice as to what I should be doing that I'm not would be much appreciated, I'd really like to get 4k (Preferably with HDR) working.

PS4 Pro support?

Are there any plans to support 10-bit H.265 video (and mkv container) in the Playstation app when PS4 Pro releases? I would love to use Plex on my PS4 Pro to Direct Play/Direct Stream all of my 4k media instead of using the Plex app on my Samsung TV. My computer cannot handle transcoding 4k files.

What do you guys use to backup your NAS?

Hey everyone. I have had my DS916+ for almost 6 months now and I am getting to a point where I have to decide if I should spend my money on more storage or on a backup solution. Since a lot of work went into getting all of my media, and there are a lot of personal photos and videos on my NAS, I figure I should probably start backing it up. I have close to 4TB of data.

How does everyone else backup? Do you guys use a large external drive or do you have a second nas somewhere to store backups? I want to find an inexpensive way to backup, but also reliable, so a mix of cheap, but also something that won't fail on me.

[BUG] Android TV 6.1.1 transcodes 4K content on NVIDIA Shield TV

The Android TV plex app version 6.1.1 always transcodes 4K content to 1080p on the NVIDIA Shield TV, rolling back to version 5.6.1 which is included in the NVIDIA factory image solves the problem and the same 4K content direct plays beautifully.

Included are some log snippets, slightly different, probably caused by messing with the settings, end result however is always a transcode of 4K content.

Online streaming help please?

Hello Plex People!

I have the Nividia shield 16gb with an attached hdd. Locally I have no issue streaming to Roku and or our Samsung smart TV. However when my brother streams from my shield to his Roku or PS4 at his home (only about 50 miles away) he gets buffering and it seems random. Some times it works fine thru the whole movie. Some times it buffers like crazy. At first we thought maybe I was streaming at the same time. I have fiber optic 100Mb up and down and hes on 100 down. Ive done a tracert and pinged his IP with no issues. Before I had a HTPC and we had no issue for the most part. Ever since we got the shield he can not stream from me without issues. I would like to share my library with my family. Does any one have any suggestions? Thanks Pain

Watching from client Plex on Android TV (Shield) . I'm on a windows 10 PMS and SD HD Home Run.
Am I missing something obvious, or can I not 'change channels?

i.e. Navigate to -> Live TV ->Program Guide -> (Loading Channels) -> Warch Now -> Select a Channel.
At this point, is there any way to flip channels or enter a channel number?
I'll feel dumb, because i have been hitting 'down arrow' then right arrow to find a new channel.

This is the official thread for

ExportTools

GitHub issues Download of latest release

About
What this little app/channel can do, is simply to export your library sections into csv or xlsx files, allowing you to open up the exported files in like Excel or siml. afterwards.
It also can export posters, in the size you decide

Note: If running PMS on Windows, and exporting into xlsx format, you must be running a version above PMS V1.3! And if not, use csv output format until upgraded

Currently exports Movie, TV-Show, Audio, Photo sections as well as playlists

Do note, that when doing so, to set the encoding to UTF-8 in excel, if exporting to csv.

This plug-in will always be considered "a work in progress", and will change rapidly, if devs get an idea, or you guy's suggest something, so fire away.

iOS is download something from iCloud during the camera upload process

Hi,

as many times reported by several users and discussed in the thread "Camera Upload on iOS constantly shutting off" the plex iOS app is downloading during the video upload process to the plex server something from the iCloud - it looks like buffering - before the actually upload.

The iCloud is totally disabled on my phone and no pictures or videos are stored in iCloud.
As I said, it seems that several users have this problem and in the mentioned thread, some screenshots are available.

What is plex downloading from the iCloud and why?

Thanks
Thomas

'Augmented profiles' breaks HEVC playback on Cromecast Ultra

I have a 4K TV with a recently bought Chromecast Ultra for which I use the Android Plex app to cast videos. Problem is the Plex server keeps transcoding the 4K HVEC media when I stream to the CCU...

Here is what I see on the server: Info on stream
Here is the Chromecast.xml on the server:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>

So what is going on? I feel like the XML is being ignored altogether...
I'm running PMS 1.7.6.4058 on Lubuntu 17.04 (KVM with 4x Xeon 2.4Ghz / 4GB)

EDIT: So after looking in the logs, I think I found what is the cause of the issue. The XML is indeed ignored because it receives an 'Augmented Profile' from the Plex app on the server side:

Jul 16, 2017 17:46:14.188 [0x7ff1dbffd700] INFO - [Chromecast] [MDE] Augmented profile: { "directPlay": { "mp4": { "mimeType": "video/mp4; codecs=\"avc1.42E01E\"", "video": { "codecs": { "h264": {} }, "maxBitDepth": 8, "maxFrameRate": 60, "maxLevel": 42, "maxWidth": 1920, "maxHeight": 1080, "maxBitrate": 20000, "maxVideoResolution": "1080" }, "audio": { "codecs": { "aac": { "maxSamplingRate": 48000, "maxChannels": 2 }, "mp3": {}, "ac3": {} } } }, "mkv": { "mimeType": "video/webm", "video": { "codecs": { "h264": {}, "vp8": {} }, "maxBitDepth": 8, "maxFrameRate": 60, "maxLevel": 42, "maxWidth": 1920, "maxHeight": 1080, "maxBitrate": 20000, "maxVideoResolution": "1080" }, "audio": { "codecs": { "aac": { "maxSamplingRate": 48000, "maxChannels": 2 }, "mp3": {}, "vorbis": { "maxChannels": 2 }, "ac3": {} } } } }, "directStream": { "video": { "codecs": { "h264": {} }, "maxBitDepth": 8, "maxLevel": 42, "maxWidth": 1920, "maxHeight": 1080, "maxBitrate": 20000, "maxVideoResolution": "1080" }, "audio": { "codecs": { "aac": { "maxSamplingRate": 48000, "maxChannels": 2 }, "mp3": {}, "opus": {} }, "maxChannels": 6 } } }

This is caused by the "Home streaming" quality setting in the app which is impossible to set to "Original" as seen here, thus forcing the transcoding...

And when attempting to set the quality back to 'Original 4K' during playback, I see this error in the logs:

Jul 16, 2017 17:47:03.277 [0x7ff1d47fe700] WARN - Got a request to stop a transcode session without a session GUID (or with an invalid one).
Jul 16, 2017 17:47:03.416 [0x7ff1e2bff700] WARN - Failed to obtain a streaming resource for transcode of key /library/metadata/2546

So yeah... it's broken when using the Android app.

Unable to transcode, as the title says. Things run fine though if i'm streaming with primary audio channel and no burn in of subs.

I'm at a bit of a loss now I've tried manually installing codecs via pacman and AUR but nada.

I've had this working before. but forget how I did it.

Hi,

I've been a long time "defender" of the decision to abandon PHT and move on to PMP. But recently I started to wonder where Plex's priorities have gone to. PMP's first release was in October 2015, where a huge outcry happened from the community. Plex promised to deliver updates and make PMP as good - if not better - than PHT.

I am not seeing that anymore. There used to be weekly status updates and all that, but we're not getting even that anymore. Instead, we see a whole lot of effort being put in other projects, like Plex for Kodi. And instead of delivering the long promised UI overhaul of PMP we get a web interface in PMP that essentially displays Plex/Web inside PMP. Really?

I am starting to lose faith here.

Chromecast Ultra profile doesn't support HEVC

Trying to cast a 1080p HEVC file and it's transcoding. Couple of things I notice from the log below:

  • It's choking on the HEVC level. What is level 120? I thought that the level system was similar to H264.
  • No mention of DTS or AC3 in the supported audio list

If I manually change the Chromecast profile to be more lenient it all suddenly starts working.

Switch between fullscreen and windowed mode

I just installed PMC on an old Mac Mini running Ubuntu 12.10 x64. The first couple of times I ran PMC it worked fine, but now it always starts in windowed mode, for some reason.

Is there a way to switch between windowed and fullscreen mode?

How do I force PMC to start up in fullscreen mode?

Any help is greatly appreaciated!

Description:

metaMMA is for users who add popular MMA event videos to their Plex Media Server. It can monitor your video source directory, move the video files, rename the video files, add a .nfo file with pertinent meta-data (such as fight cards, participant names, location, venue), and add event posters. The whole program is just a set of scripts written in Python that run periodically.

Installation

Installation instructions can be found on the Github wiki for Linux/Pi, macOS, and Windows. XBMC .nfo Importer by Plex forum user gboudreau is required, but very easy to install.

Trying to move my Plex Library, copy fails - "You require permission from the computer's admin..."

I've got a working install of PMS on a Synology box that I'm trying to move over to a Windows machine; I'm in the process of copying over my Library/install info, but it won't let me complete the copy/paste... Windows keeps throwing a permission error: "You need permission to perform this action. You require permission from the computer's administrator to make changes to this file:
com.plexapp.agents.themoviedbxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx"
I've tried .ZIP-ping the entire directory, but it fails on the same set of files. I've stopped the Plex service on the Syno, but that doesn't seem to have done anything. I'm doing the copy-paste on a Win10 machine, signed in as an admin, copying from a mounted Syno share to an NTFS-formatted USB stick.

Any suggestions? How am I supposed to move my library over if I can't copy the files to the new machine...?

Syncing issues and wrong or no thumbnails on a lot of my media

Hi Everyone!

Even though I have been a Plex media subbie for a couple of years now, I have just started taking advantage of my account. My current setup includes all my media in a folder named Plex>Movies. Under Plex, I also have another folder named TV>I am using the Plex cloud option with my Dropbox account so i don't have to keep my computer on.
I am having issues with wrong thumbnails showing up or no thumbnails at all. I have tried to close the plex app on my Macbook and on my PS4/Xbox One, but nothing seems to fix the issue.

*Is there a sync option to check so I can enable auto syncing when I add new movies to my library? I always need to sync my library after adding a new movie.

Thanks!
