Hello, I need help troubleshooting my server. I am sometimes unable to stream video. I'll explain what happened in the order of events. Yesterday I was streaming fine, I was able to stream all day, but went today to watch a move and so I got on my Roku. I then navigated to my movie and it said "unavailable" and I was unable to stream my movie, I then tried to restarted my server, but Plex was preventing the server from starting. I then performed a hard restart. I was then able to stream my media again, but then about 40 minutes later, my stream started buffering and never recovered. I looked through the logs and was unable to find any errors, maybe I am looking in the wrong places?

It may be relevant, but I doubt it is the issue, I am using the software plexdrive to mount my Google Drive for use with my Plex server. I doubt it is the issue because I can read/download from my plexdrive mount just fine.

Can anyone help me locate what is wrong?

Hi i'm using my Plex from my PC to connect with my PS4, but i recently took my old PS3 and put it in the living room for my parents to connect Plex from there** (everything is local only in my house, no remote accesss is off). **Ps3 however doesn't support "secured connections" so in order to use him i need to change "Required" to "prefered" and only then it works, however it puts me in risk.
I had an idea to go around this. I'll keep the secured connection on but put the Ps3 IP in the "List of IP addresses and networks that are allowed without auth", that should keep the security on without risking any other entrence except my Ps3 in the living room. the problem is that the IP i'm putting dont works. i tried the IP 10.0.0.X - no respond, i tried the IP from checking "what's my IP adresss" still dont work, would love if anybody helps me out.
**I want to give my Ps3 access on that list but still keep the secured connection on required. **

I have a plex server installed as a plugin on freenas NAS with versions as:
Plex version: 1.7.3.3937
Freenas version : FreeNAS-11.0-RELEASE
Samsung TV Plex app: 2.007
Samsung TV HUB version: 5.3281
samsung TV MODEL: UN55F6300

I haven't tried with all the movies but some movies doesnt play on my TV (plex app) anymore but they play fine on laptop through plex app. I checked the path for the file it looks correct. on Tv it give the error message as " "

This has started happening after I had to rebuild my whole server again when my one of the plugin HDD crashed and since while I was rebuilding it I upgraded it from Freenas 10 to Freenas 11.0. so I am not sure what happened in between these version. I definitely didnt change my TV app on samsung TV. also keep in mind this plex server is through plex plugin and the plugin availablity on freenas repo comes very late so I have updated plex server to latest version ( at that time) by forcing the file to update that using PMS updater shell script. so even though my plex server is showing me version as above , my freenas thinks its at version : 1.5.5.3634 plexmediaserver-1.5.5.3634-amd64 . and I doubt this is causing issue since I have use this method before.

I have the dmesg enabled on my freenas so when it doesnt play the movie it prints message as:
" pid (Plex Transcoder), uid xyz : exited on signal 4.

I am not sure how to get the detailed log on freenas so if some one tell me how to I can copy paste details log also.

Yesterday I found that my Plex server had been compromised, my settings where all messed up and someone had replaced the username used to log in to Plex. Are you aware of any breaches lately, possibly an exploit allowing this sort of compromise? I don't think the server as a whole has been breached, but I've yet to finish looking in to it. I found a .ssh folder alongside the "Library" folder in /var/lib/plexmediaserver with 1 file with ssh rsa keys in it. I deleted this as I don't know what its purpose is, but I see now that the folder has reappeared.

I am running plex on a QNAP TVS-871 NAS. It has been working fine for about a year and a half. I was doing some cleanup on my system. There were several extra devices in the “Settings->Devices” list. I decided to delete some of the old ones. I accidentally deleted the server like is talked about on the https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/115007577087#RemovingADevice page. I tried re-adding the server as discussed on the same web page by re-signing into my Plex account. The device wasn’t re-registered and doesn’t appear again in the devices list. As a matter of fact the “Server” menu doesn’t show up on the “Devices” page any more.

When starting Plex on my computer, I get the message “Looking for servers… Please wait while servers are discovered.” I’ve tried going through the debug items on the “Why can’t the Plex app find or connect to my Plex Media Server” web page, https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/204604227-Why-can-t-the-Plex-app-find-or-connect-to-my-Plex-Media-Server- . I have downloaded the latest version of Plex server for thq QNAP and installed it. When I log into the Plex web app, the server menu doesn’t show up. I’m not sure how to log into the server. I must be missing something on the Forum pages. Although when I open the Plex app on my Ipad the server shows up in the “Locations” of servers list. However it says the server is “Unauthorized”.

I’m not sure of the official way to confirm that the server is running, but when I look for the process when logged into the QNAP console, it looks like it is running. When I run “ps” I get this:

I've had issues setting up my PMS over Ethernet, but everything works fine over WiFi. I'd much prefer to use a wired setup to take full advantage of Fiber speeds. The setup is as follows:

• PMS Version 1.7.5.4035 on Windows 7 Ultimate PC
• ATT Fiber with Arris BGW210-700 router
• Client: Samsung Series 7 Smart TV connected via Ethernet to Arris router. Has no issues connecting to the internet.

From the client side, the only time I can view content is when the PMS is connected to the router via WiFi. When I switch over to Ethernet, the server is no longer visible to the Samsung TV (server unavailable errors).

From the server side, interestingly enough, when my PC is connected via WiFi, the Samsung TV comes up as a media device under Networks along with all other network connected devices (ex: DirecTV box and Vizio soundbar). When the PC is connected via Ethernet, the TV does not show up at all, but all other devices show up fine.

I've turned on Media Sharing and created a HomeGroup, but I can't think of anything else. I have Microsoft Security Essentials and Windows Firewall enabled, but those don't seem to cause an issue when I use WiFi.

This is looking more and more like a DLNA communication issue between my PC and the Samsung TV oddly when using Ethernet on the PC side. I don't know if anyone has run into a similar issue before, but any help/guidance is greatly appreciated!

Why do i have to sign in when i just want to use PMP locally? I am trying to use the Plex Infrastructure (PMS and PMP) on a network without Internet access and it is just not usable at all!

Just so you devs know, video playback does not work with both the current beta and release apps in iOS 11. When you initially press play, the video loads endlessly until you press pause then play, at which point the audio starts working but only the covert art is displayed.I think this might be caused by Apple's obsession with HEVC now.

Is anyone else having Bid Defender VSSERV.exe crashing issues when running Plex Media Server?

This setting is broken on Plex for Android 5.10.0 when using Nexus 7. It reverts to 4.0 every time I open the app. It doesn't respect the setting I use and forces all videos to transcode when they played Direct perfectly fine.

I am running latest version of PMP on Windows 10 (not embedded).

I have swapped my integrated amp for a power amp, so I now need to control the volume via the PC rather than via the amp. I can do this fine using a RC6 IR remote, and when in Windows 10 desktop, a volume overlay pops up when I press volume + or - or mute, showing me what number the volume is at.

However, within PMP there is no overlay pop up when changing volume, so I cannot tell where it's at, and I am a bit concerned about setting it too high and damaging my speakers.

So, is there a way to have a GUI / overlay pop-up within PMP when I press volume + or - or mute please?

Has anyone else had issues with their Plex on the shield since the last update (which was awhile ago). Mine has stopped remembering where I'm up to, when say I pause it, I come back and its like it didn't know I watched it at all. It seems to only really happen for TV Shows, not movies.

Also since the update the web browser layout has changed. it almost seems like its now using an older display version of it. It's horrendous to navigate compared to the last version.

Anyway I wanted to know that I'm not alone with these annoying bugs. and if any one knows if these are being worked on for the next update?

So I manage to get the enable button to go.. but when i click the link to the browser, it just goes dead. I have tried two computers and 2 different browsers but still not loading... Its the first time setup thats not loading properly..

I fail to see how to split a TV show or movie. This article: https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/201018248-Merge-or-Split-Items, indicates to "Open the Merged Item details view" and click the ellipses and choose Split Apart, but this option is not there. I have episodes that are screwed up because Plex merged things it should not have.

How?

I just bought a new smartphone Samsung Galaxy A3 (2017).
First app: Plex :-)

Now, when playing movies, I noticed that some movies induce transcoding at server side.
The only common property is that they all have an AC3 sound track.

My phone is capable of playing the movie without need for transcoding: on my same server, I'm running also Emby (yeah, yeah, I know...). If I start the emby-app on the same phone, the movie plays smoothly, without need for transcoding.

Are there some settings in the Android app to avoid transcoding when not needed?
I already set
App --> settings --> advanced

Subtitles -->
Burn subtitles --> automatic

Player -->
[ ] Audio Passtrough
[ ] Use Android mediaplayer
[x] Device supports AC-3
[x] Device supports E-AC-3

Guten Tag,

ich habe sehr viele Familien & Urlaubs Fotos, und dazugehörige Videos (ca. 25.000 Dateien) der letzten Jahrzehnte in einer Plex Bibliothek "Meine Fotos" gemischt eingefügt.

Jetzt habe ich bei vielen neuen Videos das Problem das diese in 4K sind (GoPro, Handy aufnahmen usw.), 4K kann aber mein Raspberry Pi 3 nicht wiedergeben. Auch das Synology NAS ist zu schwach für eine Echtzeit Trankodierung.
Da ich mehrere Raspberry Pi besitze und alles soweit Super läuft, würde ich gerne eine Optimierte Version in h264 1080p aller Videodateien erstellen die höhere Auflösung als 1080p besitzen.

Plex bietet mir ja hierzu die Funktion "Optimierte Versionen Erstellen" an.

Leider klappt Alles Markieren / Optimieren ... nicht. Ich bekomme am Ende eine Fehlermeldung 0 Optimierte Dateien. Klar liegen ja auch die Fotos mit bei.
Einen Filter kann ich aber auch nicht setzten, um die Videos Herauszufiltern, da ich hier nur "Foto Eigenschaften" ISO, Belichtungszeit usw. auswählen kann.

Kennt ihr eine Lösung wie ich das bewerkstelligen kann.
Habe keine Lust die Videodateien einzeln Herauszusuchen und einzeln zu Optimieren.

LDAP for Plex

The title pretty much says it all. I've written a small (very basic at the moment) LDAP server that uses Plex as the provider.

It only supports search and bind but that is all you need for authentication. I'm using this along side Booksonic and it's working great.

I haven't got any other LDAP supported services so I haven't been able to test it against anything else.

There isn't any authentication at the moment so I strongly suggest not exposing the server through your firewall.
