Removed TV show folder completely, but it's still there and works?

hi - I'm using a windows 10 desktop computer as my server that is LAN connected. My 3 TV's in the house have Roku Plex app - Everything is working great and have used filebot to name everything and having used Plex for weeks now, I love it but I wanted to ask about something that happened yesterday:

Occasionally, when watching a TV show episode, I will notice something about the file that I want to change. I will rip the episode from DVD again and re-encode it, name it the exact same, replace the file in the folder, but I usually have to do the plex dance, removing the folder from TV shows, clean trash, bundles , add the folder back, plex collects metadata and then everything works.......But with a particular TV show yesterday, when I did this (I removed the Mama's Family) tv show folder completely from the add folder section of TV shows in Plex, but the show remained - I even went to roku and all files/metadata are still there, and the show still plays on every episode as if it's still pointing to the drive , but it's not....I'm not sure how this is possible and I have never seen this behavior until now. I even replaced the episode and put it back in the folder on the drive, and plex recognized the change instantly - so that show continues to play perfectly fine when it shouldn't even be there? (confused) - Normally if I want to remove a TV show folder - I simply open the TV show library, delete the tv show, scan, plex notices and deletes it almost immediately - thenI clean trash/bundles and it's totally gone - Not this time.

As far as folder structure on my 3 TB drive - I have 4 folders One for movies, One for TV Shows, One for Music, and One for Misc. In the TV shows folder, it's structured so that when you open the main TV shows folder, you then see a list of all tv shows, when you open a particular tv show folder, you see all episodes listed (not separated folders by seasons) I realized that each season should have it's own folder AFTER the fact, but since this has always worked flawlessly, I have left it alone so I wouldn't have to do everything ALL over again. When I add a tv show to plex, I originally added them individually, not the entire TV show folder at once.

I also wanted to ask what to do if your internet goes out and you still want to watch plex? Thanks

Subtitles (SRT) Don't Work

Just installed Plex on my ATV4 -- looks great except for media with SRT subtitles. The subtitles for the same files work fine from the same PMS streamed to my Mac, Windows laptop, iPhone, and SimpleX -- just not in the new ATV Plex media player. The settings for the files show subtitles as being selected -- they just don't work.

MPEG-PS Version 2

I am hoping someone here can help with my issue. A little background of what I'm trying to accomplish. I am running a sports live streaming broadcast using Vmix streaming software and using the instant replay function within. Once a highlight has been captured, I want to export the file out of Vmix into a folder that Plex is pointing at and the video is automatically added to the server. The coaches on the benches will have iPad's synced with the server and can theoretically access that footage within minutes or even seconds of the play happening. Here is my issue. VMix only outputs instant replay files in MPG file format which turns out to be MPEG-PS Version 2 (file stats below). I can get Plex to see the files, but it will not play them. I receive a "Cannot load M3u8: 404 not found" error when trying to play within the web browser. When I try to optimize, I get an "invalid metadata" error. The iPad sees them as well, but will not play. I am running the latest 1.1.4.2757-24ffd60 server.

Any thoughts or ideas would be helpful. Thank you in advance.

PLEX stops on QNAP 251+

I have had great success running PLEX on my QNAP. But every once in a while I have to restart my plex server. My clients just stop seeing it. Internal and external to my network. I never had this issue when it was running on my PC. I simply login to my QNAP app manager and restart the PLEX server app. Then i am good for about 2-3 weeks. it is random. I have latest PLEX version and QNAP firmware. tho... I did just take a QNAP firmware upgrade. I will see if it repeats with that change. Just wondering if anyone else has seen this?

Also, the Category dropdown on this forum would not let me pick QNAP and a topic.

WD PR 4100

Dear WD & Plex Community

My big problem is that I can not connect my WD PR 4100 with Plex!
I have on the WD the latest software drauf 1142757!

If I want to add my media library from the PR 4100 he does not find the WD!
(I have the Plex application installed on my Windows 10 computer and there he finds only the hard disk C unfortunately not the PR 4100
) "
I find the PR 4100 within the network not and also not outside the network!

I urge you for help

My home network consists of
modem
Switch 24 compartments from Netgear
PC Win 10 where the Plex program is installed
And a modem where port 32400 is enabled for Plex

Sorry my English is not so good - I use the Google Translate tool

Does each media category (Movies, TV Shows, Music) require a separate dataset in FreeNAS?

Plex is not finding a TV series loaded to the appropriate library. However, it did find the series loaded the series in the movie library where it should not belong.

OpenFLIXR Online Update - Changelog 1.5.0

To update from 1.x to 1.5.0

    Login to console or SSH
Execute sudo updateopenflixr and enter your password
    System will reboot when done

OpenFLIXR is considered stable at this point & landing page is done for now.

I’ve begun work on better Mopidy support and everything related (this is some unexpected complicated stuff :S) and automatic backups.

Focus will also be the web wizard and other (requested) features. (besides bugfixes when discovered)

  • New: converted landing page into a Github repo (updates will automatically install)

  • New: LazyLibrarian (/librarian, service, auto-updated, monit, will place books in /mnt/books (so add this mount) and will automatically be picked up by uBooquity!) Uses port 5299 if you want to add it to server monitor.

  • Updated: perfected the landing page and added a “Now showing” feature. This will pull information from your Plex library via PlexPy and IMDB for the latest added 6 movies. The only requirement is you connect your PMS in Plexpy.
  • Fixed: humongous bug where packages wouldn’t be installed and hung update process with updateopenflixr, regression fixes applied
  • Fixed: log spamming extraordinaire
  • Fixed: Monit wouldn’t start in certain conditions
  • Fixed: security hardening
  • Fixed: a lot of misc things (packages being hold back, really really fixed interactive prompts, more autoupdated packages, amongst other things)
  • Improved: time drifting, for this to be more reliable, you have to disable time sync from your hypervisor. Everything else is done from OpenFLIXR. Let me know how this works out for you.
  • Addendum: fixplexrequest works as long as you refresh the API key in Plexrequest but do not submit it

OpenFLIXR Web Wizard Update - Changelog 1.2

Web Wizard updates are automatically installed at boot time.
So when you (re)boot OpenFLIXR you will get the latest version.

  • Plexrequest Sickrage/Sonarr fixed where they were both activated resulting in not functioning
Can’t find another solution than disabling Sonarr in plexrequest where you have to enable it yourself with the correct info.
When you go for the recommended and default Sickrage, there is nothing changed.

  • Fixed 504 ‘Gateway Timed Out’ at finishing setup, now gives you a nice countdown

  • Fixed rare condition where someone would enter non IP addresses in ‘static’ and switch back to dhcp, resulting in corrupted network settings
  • Some cleanup and visual changes
  • A small fix where you can't choose your own DNS server from now on.
See release notes of OpenFLIXR Online Update 1.1.7

  • Fixed: network settings were not always applied

  • Fixed: letsencrypt settings were not always applied
  • Password validation improved
  • Updates to stay in sync with online update version
  • Miscellaneous small stuff

Upgrade from Win 10 to Server 2012

Hi
I am thinking of upgrading my Win 10 Machine to Windows Server 2012.
I currently have 2 Disks, 1 is for the OS and 1 for the Media

I am thinking of upgrading the OS to Win Server 2012, so it means i will wipe Windows 10 from the machine totally!

What is going to be the best method to keep all my App Data safe?
The Media will stay in the same place, but i will be have a new OS!

Once Windows Server 2012 has been installed, i will setup Hyper V and create a VM for the Plex Server and install Windows 10 on it.
Should i expect any performance impact on streaming or not?

Please advise on what you recommend - Especially on the migration from 10 to server 2012. Please Note this is the one server and not a new server. so install server 2012 over windows 10!

Fabien

ROKU 4: Menu scroll stutters. Playback is fine. Roku 3 is fine. Roku 2 is fine.

The title says it all. I have three Roku- Roku 4, Roku 3, Roku 2 (and a Nexus). Everything plays fine on all units, but the scrolling of posters (on deck, newly added, etc) StuTtErS instead of scrolling smoothly. It stutters regardless of whether the posters are scrolling left or right. EVERYTHING else is fine. I'm guessing this is a side effect of the channel/plug-in NOT being optimized to run on the Roku 4. Anyone else experience this?

Sub-Zero - Subtitles done right

Current version: 1.3.49.636

Introduction

Hey there,

Some of you may have followed the recent development on the original Subliminal.bundle by @bramwalet.

I've made some serious changes, improvements and bugfixes to Subliminal.bundle during the last few weeks, with the help of some very nice people such as @PMAdmin, @chopeta, @BlueToxic and others.

As the direction of this project has moved a long way, I thought it was time to evolve from simply being a personal fork of Subliminal.bundle to something more dedicated.

Plugin Description

Sub-Zero aims to solve your subtitle problems by automatically downloading the hopefully best subtitles there are, for your individual video file.

Subtitles are a problem? Yep, they definitely are. I myself use this plugin on a daily basis as my wife has a serious hearing condition where subtitles help us to be able to watch our favourite TV series and movies together. Subtitles pose a generic struggle: matching your media file perfectly. This is as hard as it gets. Thankfully there are a bunch of libraries and services out there, that help with that.

Sub-Zero is far from being perfect, but with recent development and planned features, we're really getting there.

Its core is based on the works of Diaoul, who created the subliminal library, as well as enzyme, to parse MKV metadata. In addition to that Sub-Zero uses the extremely well-made guessit library made by wackou.

Sub-Zero still is under heavy development but has recently reached a stable state. I need you to report bugs and tell me your opinion on new features.

It currently supports the following subtitle providers:

Automatic Installation

  • Sub-Zero now is listed in the official Plex Channel Directory. You can install it from there.

Can't delete playlist: 'there was a problem deleting the playlist'

$

0

Hello,

I've got PMS (1.1.4.2757) running on a Synology DS216Play (latest) and it works mostly fine. However, I can't seem to delete playlists. The playlists are imported via an iTunes XML. Somehow, most playlists are doubled, showing both a newer and older version. I figured I just delete them all and redo the import, hoping everything will work out.

Unfortunately I can't seem to delete playlists. I get the message "there was a problem deleting the playlist". I tried restarting PMS, rebooting the Synology, enabling 'Allow media deletion', 'Optimize database', however, to no avail.

Anyone any thoughts on how to fix this. I'd rather not reinstall PMS as reindexing will take quite some time.

Thanks in advance and kind regards, Maarten

Amazon Echo and Plex! "Alexa, tell the home theater to put on a good episode of Always Sunny"

$
0
0

I have been spending the last few weeks working on an Amazon Echo app to create a voice interface to Plex.

You can do simple queries, like "what's on deck," but far more interestingly you can actually request a particular show or episode to start playing on your Plex client.

Here's a demonstration video of the first proof of concept:
image

I've been doing a lot more work since then, and now have support for playing a specific episode, confirming the show if Alexa is unsure that she heard you right, and a random high-rated (top 10%) episode.

I'll be creating a new demo video once I get all of my 1.0 features in, and then it'll be on to multi-user support so that this can actually be published and made available on the Alexa app store.

UPDATE 1/20/2016

Great news for Plex and Amazon Echo fans alike!! I am going to be working directly with Plex to make an official Alexa Plex skill, which will be totally streets ahead.

With this partnership we'll be able to make this much more than I could have alone. Keep your eyes peeled to Plex's official channels for news when it's ready

Metadata keeps getting refreshed when opening item, resulting in time out

$
0
0

After clicking on a movie in my library (which should result in playback or showing of the moviesheet), the metadata gets updated.

After the metadata is updated (no visible changes in the data or images) this particular item can be clicked on for a day or so, without being updated.

A day (or a few days) later it starts over again, and the metadata is updated again.

It only seems to happen with movies, not tv shows.

Depending in which player I am using, it results in a long loading time or even a time out.

- Plex Web App; it results in a long loading time (the update has to be finished and processed) but eventually the moviesheet is shown (or the movie plays).

- aTV 3 (plexconnect); this results in a time out, going back with the 'menu' button of the aTV and selecting the item again usually works as a workaround.

Issue/question:

I would really like to know why the metadata gets downloaded/refreshed everytime I click an item, because this results in a time out/server unreachable at the aTV (plexconnect).

When there is no metadata to be downloaded (so when I try again after the update), there are no issues with the aTV and it shows the moviesheet instantly. Therefor I really expect it to be the PMS who is the cause of the time out/unreachable.

Why does PMS do this? I do not need the update everytime I click an item, periodically update or automatic update upon changes would be fine for me?

And if this update is needed for PMS, is there a way around this time out?

Setup:

PMS (0.9.12.3)

Agents: The movie database (and that is the only plugin which I have checked)

Update library automatically is ticked

Partial scan is not ticked

Update library regularly is not ticked

Synology (DS213, DSM 5.2)

I know this is a slow server, but all media has been converted to mp4/m4v, so no transcoding is needed. Playback is good, so no problems with that.

Tried workarounds:

Changing the settings in the library, so not updating automatically or doing a partial scan. I have tried all combinations, not having any effect on my problem.

Changing the metadata agents, this resulted in a complete refresh of the library, but after that was finished it started over again. Also cleaned and optimized the database.

Selecting an item in my library (metadata is already there and it is correct, as are the posters)

[attachment=51096:Step 1 - selecting item.png]

The page starts loading and at the bottom you see it is updating and processing the metadata

[attachment=51097:Step 2 - metadata update.png]

After it is finished it shows the moviesheet, with (at first sight) the same metadata and posters

[attachment=51098:Step 3 - Moviesheet result (same as before the update).png]

[REL] Extended Personal Media Shows Agent

$

0

This metadata agent should be used with the Extended Personal Media Scanner found here. See the instructions on this page for installing the scanner.

This is a Metadata Agent for personal media files. It works in conjunction with the Extended Personal Media Scanner to scan personal media shows. The meta data agent sets the summary details on the episode. The agent expects the files to follow the naming conventions for personal media that are outlined in the Plex documentation.

Date-numbered shows

One major difference between the Extended Media Shows scanner and the Plex Series Scanner is that the Extended Media Shows scanner creates episode numbers for all of the date-based media. This results in it being sorted correctly in all Plex user interfaces. The episode number is the day of the year in which the episode is dated plus the optional index value. If an index value is not specified then a one (1) is automatically appended to the end of the episode number.

Plex date-based naming standard:

/Home Movies
   /Christmas
      /2010
         Christmas - 2010-01-06 - Getting Ready.m4v
         Christmas - 01-07-2010 - Getting Ready.m4v
         Christmas - 2010-12-24 - Stuffing_the_Stockings.m4v
         Christmas.12-25-2010.Christmas.Morning.m4v

Additional supported formats:

If the season title is specified it should go in the season description. Right now this is not working. I'm looking into why this failing.

/Home Movies
   /Christmas
      /2010
         2010-01-06 - Getting Ready.m4v
         12-24 - Stuffing the Stockings.m4v
      /2011 - Season title
         2011-01-06 - Some.title.m4v
         12-24 - Some_other_title.m4v

The above example would result in a show with Christmas as the show title. The season number, episode number and episode title would be parsed from the names.

Unstructured format:

Additionally the scanner and metadata agent also support unstructured content as well. What this means is that you could put all of your files in the same folder as long as the file name format looks like the following:

/Home Movies
   /Holidays
      /Christmas - 2011-12-25 - Getting Ready.m4v
      /Christmas - 2010-12-24 - Santa Claus.m4v
   /Birthdays
      /Grandma - 2010-02-24 - Grandma's 77th birthday party.m4v
      /Grandma - 2008-02-24 - Grandma's 75th birthday party.m4v

The above example would result in shows with Christmas and Grandma as the show titles. The season number, episode number and episode title would be parse from the names.

Multiple episodes/shows on the same day:

With this plug-in it is possible to have multiple shows on the same date. An example of where this might be used in storing multiple NFL games in a directory with the same date. The Plex Series Scanner will see these as the same episode and will give them the same episode title. The Extended Personal Media scanner and agent allow the user to specific an index number after the date to specify that the episode is different. This results in Plex showing the episode with the appropriate title.

/Sports
   /NFL
      /2013
         01-06_1 - Patriots Vs Giants.m4v
         01-06_2 - Houston Vs Minnesota.m4v
         2013-01-06_3 - Oakland Vs St. Lious.m4v

In the example of above three separate episode would be created in Plex and each with their own name.

Episode-number based shows

Plex episode-based naming standard:

/Home Movies
   /Christmas
      /2010
         Christmas - s2010e0106 - Getting Ready.m4v
         Christmas - s2010e0225 - Stuffing the Stockings.m4v
         Christmas - s2010e1225 - Christmas Morning.m4v

Additional supported formats:

If the season title is specified it should go in the season description. Right now this is not working. I'm looking into why this failing.

/Home Movies
   /Christmas
      /2010
         s2010e01 - Getting Ready.m4v
         e02 - Another episode.m4v
      /2011 - Season title
         s2010e01 - Getting Ready.m4v

The above example would result in a show with Christmas as the show title. The season number, episode number and episode title would be parsed from the names.

Episodes that contain episode release dates:

The following shows the different supported directory/file formats that are supported by the plug-in.

/Home Movies
/NFL - s2015e01 - 2015-12-31 - Minnesota vs Green Bay.mp4
/NFL - s2015e02 - 12-31-2015 - Detroit vs Tampa Bay.mp4
/NFL
/s2015e03 - 2015-12-31 - New England vs New York Jets.mp4
/s2015e04 - 12-31-2015 - San Francisco vs Seattle.mp4
/s2015
/e05 - 2015-12-31 - Arizona vs Dallas.mp4
/e06 - 12-31-2015 - New York Giants vs Philadelphia.mp4
/e07 - 2015-12-31 - Cincinnati vs Pittsburgh.mp4
/e08 - 12-31-2015 - Episode Title.mp4

The above example would result in a show with NFL as the show title. The season number, episode number, episode release date and episode title would be parsed from the names. The example shows 8 episodes specified above each would show up having the release date of 12-31-2015 in Plex.

Unstructured format:
/Home Movies
   /Holidays
      /Christmas - s2010e01 - Getting Ready.m4v
   /Vacations
      /Italy - s2010e01 - Getting Ready.m4v

The above example would result in shows with Christmas and Italy as the show titles. The season number, episode number and episode title would be parsed from the names.

Using Chapter instead of Season:

Additionally the plugin supports using "Chapter" and "C" instead of "Season" and "S" (case is ignored). Note: the word "Season" would still be used in the Plex user interface and cannot be changed by the metadata agent plugin.

/College Classes
   /Physics 101
      Physics 101 - c1e1 - First chapter.m4v
      Physics 101 - c1e2 - 2nd chapter.m4v
      /C2
         e1 - Some notes.m4v
         e2 - Some more notes.m4v
      /Chapter3
         e1 - Something else.m4v
         e2 - Something more.m4v
         e3 - Something real.m4v

The above example would result in 7 episodes being added under three seasons with a show name of "Physics 101".

Show summaries

Show summaries can be added to media files in Plex by creating a file with the show name and a ".summary" extension somewhere within the directory path of your media file that you want to add the summary to. It is important to note that the show summary file found will be used as the summary information for the show.

There are two formats supported for show summary files:

  • [Show title].summary where [Show title] is the name of your show that you want the summary information to be added to
  • show.summary

Example media file:

/Media Root/Show title/Show title - 2010-02-02 - Some title.mp4

Summary file:

/Media Root/Show title/Show title.summary

Episode summaries

Episode summaries can be added to media files in Plex by creating a file with the same name and a ".summary" extension in the same directory as the media file you want to add the summary to.

Example media file:

Show title - 2010-02-02 - Some title.mp4

Summary file:

Show title - 2010-02-02 - Some title.summary

Freenas Plex Media Server Plugin - Optimized version missing end of the video file

$

Hi all,
First time poster so please let me know if I am not following the proper procedure.
I have assembled a low powered Freenas mainly to consolidate all my media files (TV shows, Movies and Photos). The hardware is low spec with:
• AMD Athlon 5150 Kabini Quad-Core APU @1.6 GHz
• 8GB of DDR3 ram.
• 2 x 3TB Toshiba HDD (mirror)
My Plex client is a Window 10 HTPC:
• Intel Core i5 3550 + 8GB DDR3 ram
I judged that it would be more than capable of handling streaming my video files.

Most of my movies are in .mkv format. Quickly noticed that I could not fast forward, skip nor rewind the video during playback. After some research I realized that it was not an isolated issue and found many posts online from people with the same struggle. An easy fix built in PMS was often referred to: Optimized Versions.

I started with one file as a test shrinking it from 1080p at 8mbps (approx. 5GB) to 720p at 2mbs (approx. 2GB). Launching the movie on my Plex client, I was delighted at how smoothly it played (didn’t care much about the loss in image quality). Then it just stopped! I was sent back to the Library page before the credits started rolling. I check my network and saw no interruption in bandwidth. Looking again at the files, I then realized that the duration of the latter was 10 min shorter than the former - meaning that the end of the video was actually missing from the optimized version.

I ran another test with a different file for control. I optimized the larger file (8GB) with the same settings leading to an even bigger discrepancy in duration between original and optimized: 2 hours against 44 minutes. After now several attempts on half a dozen files and with several different optimization settings, the result is still the same: the Optimized version is always shorter in length than the original video. I have also tried to restart the plugin, remove and reinstall it with no luck.

It has been impossible for me to figure out what could possibly be going wrong.
1. Has anyone ever encountered this issue before?
2. Could the problem be caused by my hardware? – during optimization the load on the APU reaches close to 100%
3. Is there a known fix someone could help me with?
Thank you

Plex not starting

Hi,
Using Plex Media Server version 1.1.4.2757-24ffd60 on Windows 10 x64 (1607), Plex fails to start up: tray icon comes up for a second then disappears, process is not running, and logs show nothing useful (only found in %localappdata%).
This started a week ago, with a previous PMS version (don't know that's version), since then I've updated it to the one mentioned before.

Since then I've tried:
1. Repairing installation from Programs and features
2. Uninstall, reinstall
3. Uninstall, remove Plex %localappdata% folder and HKCU registry entries, Reinstall (after reinstall, registry entries are not there)
4. Tried starting up with normal user and later with elevated rights as well
Nothing seems to work, and as it seems to me as a completely clean install I have no idea what else could I do.

Checked:

  • no other program blocks the given ports (32400/32401)
  • the logs in %localappdata% shows nothing interesting:

    • The first log shows a db init error with missing tables, columns and indexes, but after the first run, I've checked the db file with an sqlite browser, the given objects now are there.

    • The next (any following startup) logs show nothing useful

  • The crashlogs folder is empty

I've attached the install and the first and the next logs.
Could you please take a look at it?
Thanks,
Peter
