Just too expensive to keep using Directv (or comcast or ???) and its time to move on.
Here's what I'm considering:
- I have a ROKU - so using ROKU for my PLEX Client
- getting an HD antennae and sticking it where my DISH is - using the same cable - its already in place, and I'll have great reception
- getting an HDHOMERUN (not sure which - don't need/want cable with it)
- using separate access for HBO and Showtime Anywhere, and NetFlix, HULU, AMAZON Prime from my ROKU
- so all I'm missing is the DVR part - and that's where PLEX would fit in.
?? any recommendations on the current plan - would be appreciated - since I'm basically starting from scratch I'd rather go in a different direction if that is a better long term plan
?? for PLEX - that's where I'm a bit torn. I have a decent laptop workstation - with an i7-2670QM, 2.2ghz processor, 8gb ram (can easily upgrade) on Win7 PRO. I have a hard dock - so any number of add'l drives (USB) can be added, my dock also has an esata port so I could easily go that way...
However - I am also considering a SYNOLOGY NAS - which I like, but I actually wonder if that would have the same processing capabilities as my laptop? PLUS - I'm really looking for as low-cost as I can get while still getting great performance...
