I have tried looking through all the guidelines, but I am still confused. I'm probably considered a novice and so this may be a simple question, but I can not figure it out. I am looking for a NAS device, but I am confused when the NAS device needs to be able to transcode for PLEX. I have a large collection of movies and tv shows on an external hard drive right now, but I am looking to create a PLEX media server. When exactly does the NAS device need to transcode things and what really is transcoding. I have all the files downloaded and I do not use any subtitles. If I am only looking to store the files on the NAS, and stream the files on my computer and phone remotely, will any NAS device work? I am probably doing a very bad job of explaining this, but I am looking at the Synology DS416j and people say that it is unable to transcode, but if I am just storing the files on the NAS and streaming them on other devices, I don't understand why the NAS device would need to transcode as it would make sense that the devices would transcode the files if needed. Thanks for your help!
