Hi, I've got PMS running on a pretty beefy x86_64 box running FreeNAS. Lots of storage, RAM, and CPU. No GPU. I'm trying to figure out what the best client will be for a dedicated home theater. Some features I'm looking for:
- Good UI (e.g. not Roku)
- Support for lots of native video and audio formats
- Can output digital audio to a high end processor
- Ideally, can decode 2.35:1 widescreen video to 1920x1080, so I can switch in an anamorphic lens and output to the full size of my screen
- Super bonus points if it can output a signal when in 2.35:1 mode (to auto-switch the lens)
- Can handle 4k video
- Can handle 3D movies
- Can be driven by something like a Harmony or Crestron remote / automation
I think the NVIDIA Shield is likely my best bet, but I do not want to use it as my server (seems to have some quirks still to be worked out, plus my storage is local on my FreeNAS box). If it does work well, I have no issue moving PMS to the Shield.
I will have both the client and the server hardwired on a gigabit ethernet connection, running through a gigabit enterprise-class switch.
Opinions?
