Issue: Plex no longer plays certain movies even though they are the same format as ones that do work.
Ok so, about 3 days ago I started having problems with Plex playing some of the new movies (on Amazon Fire stick) I put on the Media Server (Windows 7 & Chrome). I have tried:
- restarting the amazon stick
- leaving the power out of the stick for a day (full reboot)
- disconnecting and reconnecting the wifi
- uninstalling and reinstalling plex on the amazon stick
- refreshing the library
- updating the library
- analyze the movies library
- changing all new video name to remove "." etc.
- disconnecting my account and re-connecting my account through google chrome.
I have read about naming conventions, however Plex can see the movies and has added them successfully to my library. Also, all my films are named in the same way and (although I haven't tried every single one, they also work).
I am so fed up!
I got a 720p version of a film I already owned so simply added the new version to my "Movies" library (on my pc) and removed the older version, then updated Plex library and it replaced it just fine. Strangely, this film still works and displays at the higher resolution (so I know it is the newer version). However, none of the other new films (new to the library, not replacements in better quality) work???
I am able to watch TV Series' without any problem, including a new TV Series' I recently added.
Prior to this problem I did notice that a couple of films wouldn't replay from where I left them (a portion of the film had already been watched) and even when I labelled as "watched" and tried to start from scratch it wouldn't play (just a black screen). This was a month or so ago and it seems like Plex has been behaving a lot less stable sinse...could this be an issue with a recent patch/update to media server or amazon app?
What happens is this...
I select a new film and then it takes me to the films "synopsis" page, where I select play. The buffer icon and controls appear and, sometimes the background image appears. Whether its a black screen or background is displayed, after about 3 seconds the screen goes black (as if buffering has complete and the film is going to play), the on screen controls fade out (again, as if buffering is complete and the film will start) and...nothing! Just a big black screen with nothing playing.
I feel at the end of my tether and no idea what else to do. Can anyone give me some advise? I will, while I wait for a response, try to uninstall the media server from my pc and re-install a fresh version from the plex official website in the hopes it may be a bad install. I will also try to check films that are unwatched but were put on the media server a while ago (when everything was working fine) and finally, I'll go through older films (not in my "unwatched" folder) and see if I can spot any correlation.
Finally, and sorry for the long post but I want to offer all info.
My directory on my PC is as follows:
E:Media/Movies - Directory where all films I have watched live
E:Media/Movies/Unwatched - All the recently added movies yet to watch (these have been added for at least a year so it isn't just recent stuff in here, purely stuff that hasn't been watched)
Both of the above head to the "Movies" library on Plex. Effectively Plex searches both folders to update the Movies library
I also have another 3 libraries on plex, one is for the TV Series' I mentioned earlier and which work (same directory format as with Movies). I thought it might be an issue with the length of the movies, which doesn't make sense as I have watched 2 and 1/2 hour films in the past but it isn't that either.
Thanks prior to anyone getting back to me!
