The idea should be "Play more, Transcoding less"
There are things Plex does, nothing else comes close to. You get to organize your whole library while Plex does most of the work. Where mistakes are made, you get the wheel to take over to fix things right. Plex as a Media Library is near perfection and that's all it should be, all it needs to be - a Media Library. It doesn't have to be in control of what we use to play our medias.
Plex Team doesn't wanna accept their in the wrong path but destiny will force them. Apple who likes to be in control what's best for us, what we should have, and be without; not letting apps handles mkv, avi,... you name it. All direct play. There are apps on Apple Store supporting DTS, DTS HD such as Infuse app.
Apple had a top level meeting where all agreed that things have changed from when they had a small group of people being satisfied having and iphone, iPad because it made them look cool... being part of a small super-class. Now, even the guy that helps the super takes the garbage out in a poor neighborhood when he wants a dollar has the latest iPhone. Even Apple realizes, them too, has to change with time. So they give the apps developers more freedom.
Apple, being conscious of their software limitation, encourages us all to get apps that are capable of doing just what we want. Yet, Plex replies completely on IOS native app itself.
Microsoft, being conscious of their software limitation, encourages us all to get apps that are capable of doing just what we want. Yet, Plex replies completely on Microsoft native app itself.
WD My Cloud now allows you to use third party apps on IOS to DIRECT play your videos because they don't wanna limit us. Transcoding isn't the future. It should be a choice that's never get to be made. Soon all garbage free apps on IOS and Windows will direct play all your media with any kind of file extensions.
Meanwhile Plex be like, "You need real powerful components, top of the line procesors to transcode your perfect videos before you can play because we're (PLEX) counting on the native app with limitation to play your medias, so you need to spends lots of money on server that is out of this world" [-X
Plex should focus on being a Media Organizer Library that help you connect to your server on and while away from your network. Plex wins big on that subject.
Most of us spend so little time out there accessing out servers to view our files. We shouldn't have to spend a fortune every so often to keep up with the path Plex chose to go. I have a movie studio at home. I enjoy using Plex to keep things organized. That I won't give up [-X
