Adding folders to Library

When I add a folder to the library, like TVSHOWS and save. Plex then scans all folders that are in the add folders section. Do I have to keep each folder listed in the add folder section? Shouldn't there be some why to add a new folder without scanning every pre-existing folder. I could use some help. If I removed previous folders then all of that content is removed from Plex.
