Hello all,
I need some help, i have always had 1 hard drive with partitions on it. I have been around computers all my life but really never had a reason to setup a server/ multiples hard drives but now i have PLEX and need to learn. What i want to achieve is the best setup for performance, and space with simplicity and ofcourse backing up my hard drives. I ordered x2 of the following hard drives below : (WD RED NAS 4TB)
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00EHBERSE/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I ordered them because i want to get serious about turning my main gaming rig into also my plex media server/NAS running 24/7. Im not sure what would be the easiest and best setup, and to make 2 or 3+ HDD's work as one name/label (if recommended), they will be dedicated as "PLEX ONLY" drives for the server, and ofcourse downloads (media only) will be directed to these drives aswell unless not recommended. Let me tell you about my specifications.
i7 2600k CPU
MOBO: ASUS P8Z68-V/GEN3 LGA 1155
16 GB DD3 RAM
EVGA GTX 1070 FTW
EVGA 750 PSU
OLD 1.4 HDD x1
128 GB SSD OS DRIVE x1
WD EXTERNAL 6 TB (USB)
WD Red 4TB NAS HDD's x2
i have a grand total of 6 TB i need to backup and move to the new hard drives for safer keeper than trusting my external. (external is full, is my main drive for PLEX server)
How would you configure this setup for best performance , mirroring/automatic backups (crashplan ?) , RAID ? (i know nothing about) etc. X_X
Thank you anyone for advice and input, everything is welcome. Please feel free to ask me questions.
Thank you fellow Plexers !
B-)
