Plex Media Player on Mac issues (missing keyboard shortcuts, library scanning while watching video)

Plex Media Player running on a Mac mini (saw this on Sierra and High Sierra). I'm using the "classic" UI which looks like the web player, not the new big TV mode UI.

In the last week or so, I've noticed some UI changes and keyboard shortcuts going away that make Plex Media Player more difficult to use.

I used to be able to use the ESC key or H to go to the home screen from a playing video. Now it seems the only way is to use the mouse to click the X in the lower right. This change seems to have happened at the same version when the bottom banner changed and the X was moved to the lower right.

Not all of the shortcuts that pop up in the ? pane seem to work either. Are keyboard shortcuts being deprecated or changed? How do I get back the ability to exit a playing video, or mark something as watched, with a single keypress?

I've also noticed that the scanning/matching text overlay that appears along the bottom of the library navigation UI during a library update has started appearing over a playing video. This never happened in the past, but when I took tonight's Plex Pass update to Plex Media Player, I saw library update a couple times text while watching TV shows. How do I disable this?
