After years without a problem, since last week I am getting a "Playback has stopped because the connection to the Plex Media Server has been lost" issue on my Android TV device. I cannot play anything. The player can see the server and the server can see the player, but as soon as I try to play content it hangs and then gives the error. I am not having the issue on either of my Android mobile devices (OnePlus 3 and Samsung GalaxyTab S3). Connection is through a home wifi network.

The Player is:

Hello all,
I am using Ubuntu 16.04 as my OS, and I have ZFS for my storage. More information about my system can be found at: https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/310275/why-is-my-number-of-streams-so-low#latest
I have been experiencing that when I watch media (most noticeably with movies or tv shows) that the ram on my computer will continue to raise until it gets to about 10gb or so, and will eventually cause my computer to crash some of the programs. I currently use team viewer to remote access this computer, and when the problems happen I will not be able to remote in as well as the server will be unavailable though plex.
I am very new to Ubuntu, and so if there is any solution or anything that I can do to prevent this from happening I am all ears. The only solution I currently have is to restart the computer every couple of days to keep the memory on the computer at a minimum. I would like to keep this computer on 24/7 if possible though.

people around here ask for an Alexa Skill in the DACH region (Germany, Austria) for a long time now but nothing comes.

Chrome doesn't come close to the picture quality of that provided by madvr based players such as MPDN or MPC-HC. This is a modification that adds another play button to the web interface which launches your selected media player with the item you selected to play in Plex. It'll also make it as viewed but has the limitation that it can't seek or set partial views. Its tested and built for Windows and Chrome but might work elsewhere.

I re-arranged my AV setup this afternoon and when I hooked everything back up and I went to play a Movie I had been watching earlier there was no sound. I first checked all of the usual things, checked connections, restarted plex server, restarted Roku Ultra, checked a different movie (no sound), checked a TV episode with PCM audio the sound played just fine. The audio works in Netflix, Hulu, Amazon. I then used my Chromecast from my phone with the original movie file and the audio played just fine. Is there some bug out there with a new version of the Roku channel or a system update to the Roku? Is anyone else having this issue?

Another user has reported this also. I am using plex on my ROKU Ultra and since i updated to the latest ROKU plex channel last night most of my 4K HDR HEVC 10 BIT MKV videos break up. I know to play in HDR the video must be copied not transcoded. The problem seems worst when videos are being copied and audio is transcoded. My reciever decodes ac3 5.1 so when i select this track on a movie the video is ok for the most part, but when is switch to DTS or True HD audio and plex has to transcode the audio (while still copying the video) the picture badly breaks up every few seconds. Someone else has reported that their video breaks up even when not transcoding audio so maybe this doesnt make a difference. I have tried replacing my HDMI to another high speed cable and it is the same. There has not been a roku firmware update so this is definitely a problem with the new Plex channel since all these movies were playing fine until updating PLEX. I am also running the latest version of plex server. Can someone on the Plex team please fix this and in the meantime put the old plex channel back on ROKU until this is fixed, as there is not way to revert to the old version of the app manually and I can't play the majority of my 4K HDR movies. I have been using Plex Media Server with two Chromecasts for about a year now, with next to zero problems. Over the last couple months, a highly annoying problem crept up and is starting to happen so frequently that it's become unusable.

What's happening is that you can watch a video and it will just suddenly stop, like the video is over.  I have been told a number of things to try, but have gotten no where so far as to alleviating the issue.

1. Some of the video files that fail now used to work fine in Plex before
2. Files that fail come from numerous sources in numerous format (home videos, cell phone videos, ripped videos, etc..)
3. Files that fail will not always fail
4. Files don't always fail in the same spot
5. My computer does not sleep when this happens
6. My hard drives aren't sleeping when this happens
7. All video files that fail in Plex play flawlessly through other apps that cast video to Chromecast

It has been suggested that the files are corrupt and/or sending back an incorrect EOF, but the attached logs show that doesn't appear to be the case.  The only sketchy thing I see is:

Aside from this issue, Plex is great. It has all the features I like and need which is why I bought the mobile app... Unfortunately, it's become unusable. Does anyone have any ideas on how to resolve this issue?

While trying to play a copy of Harry Potter encoded in 4k HEVC and AAC 7.1, I am able to direct stream the video file but it attempts to transcode the audio. When playing it on the Apple TV 4K, I hear no audio. On the plex for vizio app, I can direct play it and it will play just perfectly, audio and all.

Different movie - Inception, same video but AAC 5.1. The issue here is that the center audio is coming from the right front speaker. Again it is transcoding the audio. Same thing when played on the plex for vizio app - everything is perfect.

I have searched quite a bit but haven't found a solid answer on when they will enable plex for apple tv to direct play things. Quite frankly I didn't think that it could even play mkv files - but the video does stream - the cpu usage on my synology is basically nonexistent. This is really frustrating after paying a large upfront fee for the lifetime shiny plex pass.

Help me obi wan kenobi - you're my only hope. Do I need to ditch the apple tv and go with something else?

Lastly, how do we get Plex's attention to these types of matters - this is my first post. Can we throw an @plex up in this house?

Some of you may have followed the recent development on the original Subliminal.bundle by @bramwalet.

I've made some serious changes, improvements and bugfixes to Subliminal.bundle during the last few weeks, with the help of some very nice people such as @PMAdmin, @chopeta, @BlueToxic and others.

As the direction of this project has moved a long way, I thought it was time to evolve from simply being a personal fork of Subliminal.bundle to something more dedicated.

Plugin Description

Sub-Zero aims to solve your subtitle problems by automatically downloading the hopefully best subtitles there are, for your individual video file.

Subtitles are a problem? Yep, they definitely are. I myself use this plugin on a daily basis as my wife has a serious hearing condition where subtitles help us to be able to watch our favourite TV series and movies together. Subtitles pose a generic struggle: matching your media file perfectly. This is as hard as it gets. Thankfully there are a bunch of libraries and services out there, that help with that.

Sub-Zero is far from being perfect, but with recent development and planned features, we're really getting there.

Its core is based on the works of Diaoul, who created the subliminal library, as well as enzyme, to parse MKV metadata. In addition to that Sub-Zero uses the extremely well-made guessit library made by wackou.

Sub-Zero still is under heavy development but has recently reached a stable state. I need you to report bugs and tell me your opinion on new features.

Manual Installation

• go to Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Plug-ins/
• remove old versions (rm -r Sub-Zero.bundle)
• get the current version from here
• unpack it
• restart your plex media server!

Usage

• go to Settings -> Server -> Agents -> Movies/TV Shows
• select the metadata provider you use on your library, e.g.: Freebase (movies) or TheTVDB (series)
• enable Sub-Zero Subtitles (TV/Movies)
• configure them
• refresh your library (or individual movies/TV shows)

With a local server or Plex cloud, transcoding doesn't seem to work if the quality is set to any of the available options different than "original" when using mobile data on my Alcatel U5 Plus (4047A) with Android 7.0.

When trying to play a FLAC file from the local server, This message appears at the bottom:

Could not play: Direct playback not available; Conversion OK., but nothing happens, nothing is converted, the song won't start to play.:

When trying to play an MP3 file, the song starts to play but if the selected quality is lower than the one within the file, instead of transcoding, it begins to play the song directly. For example, if the song is 320Kbps and the selected quality in settings is 192Kbps, the song won't be transcoded but played back directly:

FLAC files and MP3 files played from Plex cloud start to play, but they won't get transcoded to the desired quality selected in settings:

It's important to note that video transcoding works as expected from both servers.

I'm not one to complain about free software, but I've been living with this issue for months and have tried almost everything. If someone that really knows the in's and out's of plex and could help me with this issue, I'll give you my 3rd born.

Here's the issues, and how I temporarily resolve them.
1) I use the roku platform on a TCL 55" 4k smart tv to connect to Plex via the Plex app/channel.
2) Plex never has any issues starting, and loads my libraries just fine every time.
3) I queue up a movie, and the movie loads no problem...no real delays or anything that I've noticed that would signal an issue.
4) When the sound starts, it cuts in and out repeatedly...it'll play for about a second, then goes off for a second, then play for a second, then goes off for a second...and it'll continue until you cut off the movie.
5) I come to my home server, start up task manager, end task on 3 plex related programs - plex media server, plex dlna service, and i think the plex updater or tuner service?
6) I find the plex program with a quick search from the start menu, right click and run the program as administrator, go back and restart the movie and it works fine - regardless if it's resuming an unfinished movie or starting a movie from scratch. I believe most files are .mkv files...which are really just shell files (if I understand them correctly). A lot use the AC3 encoding (which I thought was just another shell for audio files) and the base audio file is .mp3?

Restarting the plex media server is the only thing I've found that fixes the problem. I've never had to restart my server (which I maybe restart 1 time a week). I've never had to uninstall/reinstall the plex app on roku, or power off/on the tv. My TV (TCLRoku TV - 5.1.1.4433...-Plex) shows up in the devices menu along with the Plex Media Server, Plex Web (Chrome), iPadPro.

A few of the things I've tried:
1) Updating plex to the latest version (multiple times - though i did just update to 1.10.1.4602 - it shows there is another update available after 1.10.1.4602, but when I install it, it shows an error )
2) Uninstalling & reinstalling plex
3) I've optimized versions of the movies for the TV, but it hasn't helped.
4) There's a red exclamation point next to remote access in the settings...but I don't think it's relevant - I access everything from a wired ethernet connection on my home network.
5) I've turned Direct Play and Direct Stream both on and off
6) I just enabled the debug log so hopefully that might help. I'll post the log if that offers add'l help.
7) I've enabled IPv6 support and disabled secure connections. I've also enabled HTTP pipelining and webhooks, but nothing works.
8) There's no boost to the volume when audio is converted.
9) I've set my transcoder quality settings to make my cpu hurt with no noticeable improvement (just incase it the audio issues were caused by plex trying to transcode the video while it was playing and not being able to keep up) Background transcoding for x264 is also set to Fast and 2 max.
10) DLNA server is enabled, and timeline reporting is enabled.

I've read that other's have had similar issues and it has to do w/ Plex transcoding the audio or a secure connection issue, but I've tried every setting I can think of, and still haven't had any luck resolving the issue. The app works if I end task on the plex media server and restart the server, but I think it may have to do with closing the roku app and restarting it (without restarting the server), that changes some audio setting that breaks the audio?

Any help or ideas anyone has are greatly appreciated, because this is a nut I haven't been able to crack!

Ever since the latest update on my Minix Neo U9-H, I've had nothing but issues. Audio is out of sync half the time unless I manually transcode, videos stop randomly, I get told I can't connect to my Plex Media Server. I had none of these issues before the update and my experience has been pretty bad the past 2 weeks. Is there any update/time frame the Plex team can give on when there will be an update to fix these issues that the new update has caused?

Hello, i've a Samsung smart tv model UE55h6400AW with 2880 firmware.
I use plex 2.009 on it.

With older versions it works great, I can stream movies who are stored on a web serveur without issues. But since I've update plex quality of the movie change every 5 min like 1080p to 240p or 480p etc... And sound cuts a lot ( with or without the movie quality change).
I've test on computers and tablet all works great on the same web connection of the tv. I've test both ethernet cable and wifi on tv, same issue.

I can bring you some log if you tel me how to get this.

I've also try many options in configuration menu, no changes. If you can correct this bug, or if you can tel me how to install older versions or configure plex for have a smooth and great playing i'll thank you a lot.

Forgive me for my bad english.

I have a new laptop, which I purchased mainly to watch videos during an upcoming trip overseas. I loaded the Windows Store Plex app, and had no trouble getting connected to my Plex server. Unfortunately though, after repeated attempts I have not been able to sync a single item.

To start with, my server and player apps are all up to date, as best I can tell, and are signed-in to my plex pass account. I can see the server from the laptop just fine. I can stream videos from the server just fine. I can see my entire media library, and set up a sync just fine. I can even see the sync progress as the files are transcoded, but the files do not transfer. The only error message I get is either Unknown Error or Network Error so I have no idea where to start. Considering everything else works, so clearly the network is too.

My setup is fairly simple. My plex server is running on a not that old (i5) PC in the basement running Windows 10. The server was just updated to version 1.11.3.4803. This is my primary plex server, and it is NOT shared outside of my network. I also have a 2nd plex server running on my synology NAS box which I do share externally for family to use. The laptop is running Windows 10 with the windows store app, version 3.2.20-2599c77. Everything is connected to my home network, the servers are hardwired, the laptop is wifi.

Whenever I try to sync everything works up to the point it should transfer the file to the laptop, then nothing happens and I get the vague error message. I have tried both servers with the same results. I have of course tried different videos. My first choice for storage on the laptop was a large SD card, but I have also tried saving to the default location. I have tried setting up the sync from the laptop, and from the server. Also, rather annoyingly the laptop will repeatedly tell me that media is ready to transfer even though it never will. I have tried just about every reasonable iteration, and nothing seems to work.

Please, I need help or advice to figure this out.

On the Android TV app, when the subtitle size is set to BIG or HUGE at Settings -> Video -> Subtitle Size, the selected option applies ONLY when the video is transcoded.

The videos I tested are MKV with XviD and DivX codecs, which are currently transcoded regardless if the device has native support for them and the subtitles are SubRip inside the container as well. Looks like they are getting transcoded along with the video codec, and thus the size is changed in the process.

Other codecs like h.264, h.265, etc, are played back directly, but the size of subtitle won't reflect the desired size.

I understand that PGS, VobSub and other image subtitle formats won't get resized.
