Fire TV stick broken

So like lots of other people my fire stick randomly automatically updated last night. Since then sometimes the app loads sometimes it doesn't. When it decides to work the video is jumpy with dropped frames

How can I revert to the old version? And when are Plex going to fix the problems?

Samsung: Tizen 1140.7 broke Plex App.

What model device do you have? (Can be found in the App under Preferences > About)
UE55KS8005 - 2017 model

Which version of the App are you running? (Can be found in the App under Preferences > About)
Newest one for SmartHub 1140. (Official App)

How is your TV/BD-Player connected to your network, wired or wireless? (Can be found in the App under Preferences > About)
5Ghz Wifi / 2.4 Ghz Wifi / LAN

What platform do you use to run your Plex Media Server on? (Mac, Windows, Linux, Nas, etc)
Windows 10 64bit

Which version of the PMS software are you running?
1.1.4.2757-24ffd60

Are you using a local server or are we talking remote connection?
Localserver on the same network.

What are the steps that we need to take to reproduce your problem?
When you start playing a serie or movie on your television it loads (a little longer than before the update) and starts. After ~30 secs it stops and start buffering, before starting 2 secs to start buffering again. I have 3 other Samsung TV's running other OS (not Tizen) with the newest version of Plex App, with no issues with Plex. I even tried to reset the entire TV. No problem before the update (streamed a 4K movie with no lag, no loading time.. No I can't watch an episode of The Flash (20 min)) This update came a few days ago.
I tried switching from 5Ghz (which has full strength and can stream 4K from Netflix with no issues) to 2.4Ghz and even took a LAN-cable to ensuring myself and Samsung that this was not the issue.

Does it happen with every file of this media type or just some?
Not file specific, happens randomly after short amount of time, even tried to change the settings (quality eg.) with no luck at all. Reached out to Samsung Support which logged into my TV to conclude 'The TV seems fine, so we can't do anything - It is most likely something with Plex to do, you'll have to wait for them to release an new version'.

Missing episodes on tv shows and missing movies when added on plex server (first time poster)

$

So let me give you some backstory here. So I have a 5.1 surround system which I have bought like 4years ago and I watch movies through via a dedicated blu ray player. I enjoy to watch movies on my 46 inch LED TV. I also got a ps3. I have been using playstation media server for my ps3 for some time. But suddenly when I tried to play a episode or a movie, I would get corrupted data and there seems to be alot of so I ended up uninstalling it and I was looking for a new media server.
All I want

I have heard of plex and Kodi, most because I am also looking for a new 8bay NAS and those I was interesting in, are they powerful enough to transcode/play 1080p content. if I were to buy a NAS that was powerful enough it would add like 400dollars in price. So I wanted try out Plex on my pc.
I have a 5930k - 6cores
32GB RAM
4x6TB wd black hdd's
win10x64
Wireless connection on my ps3
my internet speed is 30/10,but I'm planning on upgrading to 60/20 within 1year.

This is my requirements for a media server sw:

  • I want to name the episodes and movies I see fit, if that doesnt work here for plex, plex is not for me
  • I dont want any media server sw to change the episodes or movies. my example Almost Human ep 1 Pilot 720p.mkv, Ghostbusters 2 1080p.mkv, Beauty and the Beast 2017 1080p REMUX AVC DTS-HD MA7.1.mkv.
  • 99% of my media library is in .mkv format and I dont wish to change it to be able to play them on ps3 and showing it on my TV.
  • I want a media server that just plays what I have in library after adding it.

So earlier this summer I installed Plex media server on my pc and on my ps3. So I use mechanical drives for mass storage,im up to 24TB, 3 of those 6TB hdd'es are used for tv shows and movies, it varies from 720p and 1080p tv shows/movies.I have a hdd for movies, its a collection of 720p and 1080p and Remux 1080p. So when I was adding the media on my plex server, I had to chose the hdd and add them to library so they would be added to plex server. So after like 30minutes of seeing them added I checked out my library for movies and tv shows and I found that on almost every season on any tv show there were episodes that were missing and I still dont understand why that is.

I'm here now to try and get answers and what to do to fix these problems.

Same movie in different libraries?

Hi,

I have a movie in two languages (English and Spanish). Then I have separate libraries for movies in Spanish and Movies in English:

  • "Movies English": reads media from C:/Movies
  • "Movies Spanish": reads media from C:/MoviesSpanish

So, I need my dual movie (in 2 languages) to be in both libraries, but avoiding duplicating the file. Is there any way to accomplish this? Playlists don't seem to do the job.

Thanks

Plex clients ALWAYS transcoding when accessing from an external network. Internally works fine!

$

Hey all. I've got a rather frustrating issue - I use a number of clients (a local HTPC running OpenPHT, laptop running the official Plex Media Player etc) and ever since Plex autoupdated (not sure which version #) playing from OUTSIDE my LAN causes everything to be transcoded.

Take this scenario - I have a laptop cabled into my home network. It's running Windows 10 and the August 2017 version of Plex Media Player. Everything works fine when I'm at home, but as soon as I connect to an external network with the SAME laptop, a movie which was previously direct-playing suddenly needs to be transcoded. My PLEX server can't handle that and so the stream stutters. Weird - the laptop is exactly the same, only my network has changed.

Any ideas? I've trawled thru various settings etc and turned on all the "remote play" options to "original" etc but it doesn't make any difference.

Thanks in advance!
Dave

Which version of Plex GUI for Fire TV do you like more?

Keymap.xml to perform CEC-Client function

$

Hi, I have seen many posts about the keymapping for remote.xml however I am trying to control the CEC-Client (Pulse Eight) in RasPlex from the Keymap.xml remap file. So rather than the CEC-Client receiving the signals it would be sending them and this would enable me to use a Flirc receiver to use a non programmable remote of my choice (QNAP RM-IR002) for both navigating Plex and controlling the TV (Samsung) and volume (Onkyo TX L-50).

I can successfully turn on and off the TV with these commands in SSH:
echo "on 0" | cec-client -s
echo "standby 0" | cec-client -s

I had a wild unsuccessful stab at this Keyboard.xml keymap with t and v as arbitrary letters that i could later program in Flirc to buttons, w and g were simply put in to prove my .xml file was working:

file1

Results - w and g were remapped correctly and worked, t and v however had no effect.

In this article ( http://kodi.wiki/view/Keyboard.xml ) in section 6.2 Functions, were the following functions:
CECActivateSource - Wake up playing device via a CEC peripheral v13 Addition
CECStandby - Put playing device on standby via a CEC peripheral v13 Addition
CECToggleState - Toggle state of playing device via a CEC peripheral v13 Addition
these looked promising so i tried the following keyboard.xml remap:

file 2

Unfortunately t and v again had no effect.

If there is anyone that has any advice on how to remap the Keyboard.xml file to utilise the CEC-Client in Rasplex to control the tv and receiver I would really appreciate the guidance. The best case would be a toggle function like Kodi seems to have above however i could possibly work around separate buttons using a Longpress in Flirc if i had to. Unfortunately I am not familiar with how to debug as i am really new to this however i am sure there are tutorials on this and i will learn if it is required.

Thanks for any help

Trailers are disappearing when updating metadata

Hello,

I noticed today, that when I am making a refresh of metadata in the movie section, my trailers are disappearing. When I am adding new movies, no trailers appears as well.
The same thing happens to my Rotten Tomato ratings. They disappears as well.

I am running the media server Version 1.8.4.4249 and using the webapp.

Can anyone help me getting my trailers and ratings back?

Best regards

README

Introduction

What is Phlex? Phlex stands for Personal Home Language EXtension. I mean, I guess. I literally just made that up. Also, it sounds cool.

Aside from being a made-up name that sounds cool, The purpose of Phlex is to provide a natural language interface for Home Theater applications - effectively bridging the current gap between commercial AI Solutions like Google Home/Alexa and personal web applications like Plex, Couchpotato, and Sonarr.

Or, in short - you can watch and download movies and shows just by telling your phone to do so.

Installation

NOTE: YOUR config.ini.php file is IMPORTANT. DO NOT DELETE OR REMOVE THIS FILE ONCE YOU'VE GOT PHLEX RUNNING. IF UPDATING, KEEP A COPY OF THIS FILE AND REPLACE IT. REMOVING THIS FILE WILL ABSOLUTELY BREAK ACCOUNT LINKING FOR GOOGLE ASSISTANT.

There are many ways you can install Phlex, here are a few options.

Using Docker

There is a docker image available. Refer to the image documentation to get started.

Using XAMPP

Phlex requires a webserver and PHP 7.0+ with CURL and SSH enabled in order to work correctly.

For Cast Device Control, you will also need to enable the Sockets module.

For most use cases, XAMPP is going to be the easiest options.

XAMPP is a free, cross-platform web server package, and can be found here: https://www.apachefriends.org/index.html

When installing XAMPP, we only require the PHP and Apache features. You can uncheck the rest of the options in installation if you have no need for them:

MySQL, FileZilla FTP Server, Mercury Mail Server, Tomcat, Perl, phpMyAdmin, Webalizer, Fake Sendmail...ain't nobody got time fo dat.

Once installed, clone or download the Phlex directory to the root web directory of XAMPP, which should be the /htdocs folder. When done, the path should be something like C:\xampp\htdocs\phlex (windows) or usr/home/xampp/htdocs/phlex (linux).

That should be it. You can now restart the apache service for your webserver, and browse to your Phlex installation at 'http://yourserveraddress:80/Phlex'.

To log in, enter your Plex username and password.

If you are running Phlex on an existing webserver, Phlex PHP version 7.0 and up. Phlex will also require r/w access to the root of the /Phlex directory for configuration and logging purposes.
You will also need the CURL and openSSL extensions enabled, and sockets if you have any Cast devices. If you're not using Xampp, you may also need to enable the xml module.

Using a Raspberry Pi

(Thanks to giac0m0 for the writeup)

Check version of PHP

  1. On the Raspberry Pi, check version of PHP

    php -v

  2. If PHP is not v7.0, remove PHP and install 7.0

    sudo apt-get remove php*

Install PHP v7.0 and plugins needed

  1. Install Apache and PHP7.0 using instructions from site: https://www.stewright.me/2016/03/turn-raspberry-pi-3-php-7-powered-web-server/

  2. Install PHP XML (missing from previous guide)

    sudo apt-get install php-xml

  3. Change ownership of Phlex folder to www-data

    sudo chown -R www-data /var/www/html/Phlex/

  4. Add writeable folders to /etc/php/7.0/apache2/php.ini

Add this line to the file, near the guidance notes for open_basedir :

    open_basedir = /var/www/html/Phlex/

  5. Edit php.ini for Dynamic Extensions. Add lines:

    extension=curl.so
    extension=openssl.so

Restart web server

    sudo service apache2 restart

Updating

Congratulations. If you installed Phlex via git or Docker, you're all set. Go into settings, click the "Auto update" toggle, and go to town!

If you installed from a .zip file, it is important to not delete config.ini.php, as this is where your server's API token is stored, which is used to associate your local Phlex client with your Google account.

Post-Installation (Network Stuff)

Port forwarding

First, you'll need to forward IP traffic to port 80 on the computer where Phlex is running. You do not have to forward port 80 to port 80, you can choose any open port you like.

If you wish to change the listening port for Phlex to something other than 80, you can do so in the Xampp control panel by clicking the "config" button next to Apache, and then opening httpd.conf.

In httpd.conf, you will see a line that reads "Listen 80". Change 80 to whichever port you want. Restart apache, and forward to that port. If you are on Windows, you will need to make a rule in Windows Firewall to allow that port's traffic as well.

MDNS/Multicast/Cast Discovery

Chromecasts are fun devices. They're fun for this project because they use Multicast DNS (Aka Bonjour, Aka Avahii, Aka Zeroconf) in order to talk to one another on a home network.

On a very basic home network with just one router and everything connected via wifi, MDNS usually just works. Usually.

However, there are thousands of different router manufactureres, and thousands of different network configurations that could play a part in how well your cast devices will talk with Phlex.

If you are experiencing issues with cast devices not showing up in Phlex, you should first verify that the php sockets module is installed and enabled. If you used XAMPP, it should be included, you just need to edit your php.ini file to enable it.

If you used an alternative webserver option, google it.

If sockets are enabled and you STILL can't see all of your cast devices, I would suggest looking in the web UI for your router and looking for any setting related to "multicast filtering", "bonjour","or MDNS discovery". Most of them should support it, it may just need to be enabled.

Setting it up with Google Assistant

Log into Phlex with your Plex.tv username and password.
Click on the gear icon to open settings.
In settings, under the general tab, make sure you fill in the "Public Address" box with the FULL address of your Phlex server. Typically, you will just need to append /Phlex to the directory path, and a port if you changed it to something other than 80.

For example

273.482.234.33:66678/Phlex

If you've set up a domain with reverse proxy, then just put the url you've setup

my.domain.com/Phlex

Or

phlex.my.domain.com

It is important to try the URL you are providing for "public address" before attempting to link your Google account. If the address is not accessible via a device that is not on your local network (your cell phone with the wifi turned off), then I can't talk to your Phlex client, and the server will refuse to link your account.

Once you've got the address entered, click the "register server" button. Your server address will be sent to the Phlex Mothership and verified, and if I determine your client is set up correctly for communication, will register you with the db and forward you to google to link your account.

Once this is done, you just need to ask your Google Assistant to "Talk to Flex TV". This is the invocation name you will use to talk to Phlex.

You should now be prompted to link your Google account(again).

Open the Google Home app on your phone, and look for the card prompting you to link your account. Go through that, and you should be all linked up!

Boom. You can now talk to Phlex by saying things like "Ask Flex TV to play batman begins" or "Ask Flex TV to play the lastest episode of THe Big Bang Theory". I'll be adding a wiki page for voice commands as time allows.

Multiple Google Home Users

If you have multiple people in your household, it's possible to allow them to link their account to your Phlex instance, without having them create their own Plex.tv account.
All you need to do is have them sign into the Phlex UI from a device linked to their Google account. Go into settings, click the "link server" button, and have them select their own Google account.

Now have them ask to talk to Flex TV through Assistant, and finish linking their account through the Ghome app.

This can be repeated for as many users as you have in your household.

Google Assistant Examples

When talking with Google Assistant, your speech is parsed using API.ai's natural language processing, meaning Phlex is always getting better! Below are just a few examples of the type of things you can ask Flex TV to do.

OK Google, Ask Flex TV to play Batman Begins.

Amazon Alexa

If you're reading this because you suddenly noticed that there is mention of Alexa floating around, you're in luck!

I'm currently looking for beta testers from both the US and UK to help work out bugs with Flex TV as I await certification from Amazon.

Setting up IFTTT With Phlex (UPDATED)

  1. Head on over to https://ifttt.com/ and create an account.
  2. Go to the "applets" page.
  3. Click "New applet".
  4. Click the blue + button for IF THIS.
  5. Search for "Assistant".
  6. "Say a phrase with a Text Ingredient".
  7. What do you want to say:

    • Language parsing has been updated to use API.ai for all commands, so no need for separate URL's for separate commands.
    • Depends on the command you want to use. I use "Tell Plex to", "I want to watch", and I want to download" for playback, control, and fetch commands respectively.
    • You can mostly use whatever you want, but some triggers are reserved - these should work.
    • Put the $ sign where the thing you're sending to Phlex goes.
    • > "Tell plex to $"
  8. Save it.

  9. Click the "then that" button.

  10. Search for "Maker".

  11. Pick "Make a web request", the only option.

  12. Open the Phlex web UI, click the button under "Click to copy IFTTT URL:". The URL should be copied to your clipboard, and look something like this:

    http://{YOUR_SERVER_ADDRESS}/Phlex/api.php?say&apiToken=asdfaksdfjasae670a877d1a1e5931f5cbf326c&command={{TextField}}

  13. The "say" paramater tells Phlex to parse the command with API.ai, giving your greater flexibility over your commands. If you wish to use the "legacy" paramaters, you can replace 'say' with either 'play','control', or 'fetch' to create specific commands for those triggers.

  14. Click "Create Action", test it out.

  15. Repeat for a download and "control playback" command.

Reporting Issues

If you think you've found a bug or would like to make a feature request, feel free to use the issue tracker to let me know. When posting an issue, try to include the following information:

  1. On what OS are you running Phlex?
  2. Are you using a new instance of XAMPP, or an existing webserver?
    • If Using an existing Webserver, have you ensured the proper modules are enabled and installed, and that PHP can read and write to the /Phlex directory?
  3. If you're having issues communicating with a specific instance of Plex/Couchpotato/Sonarr/etc. - tell me the OS you're running that app on.
  4. Is Phlex using http or https?
  5. If you're having issues with a specific command, please note the timestamp in the web UI, and take a look at Phlex and Phlex_error.log files. Paste anything that looks related as well.

DONATIONS

Phlex/Flex TV is currently a one-person operation. There is no big team of people, there are no slick corporate sponsors. I cannot stand ad-sponsored projects or "freemium" apps, and will never try to use this garbage to gain revenue from users.

However, this is a massive undertaking, and has snowballed enormously from a simple IFTTT hook/script to the project you now see today.

SO, If you really really like this project and want to show a little love, you can send money via paypal to donate.to.digitalhigh@gmail.com.

This address is for donations only, if you need support, please look above for information on how to ask for it.

Bonding to 2 NICs

Hi there,

Does anyone know how I can bond Plex to two NICs? We have 2 internet connections which are in each NIC and they work fine, we're able to remote desktop onto the machine from both networks, however devices on the secondary network connect to Plex over the internet.

Is there a way of getting Plex to push across both LANs?

Still on the fence about switching systems but something has changed.

$

I have, as many know, become increasingly frustrated by the direction Plex has taken in the last year or two and even more lately. Their extreme arrogance and their near total lack of concern for the wishes of their user base has only served to reinforce that feeling.

Because of that, and some other problems, I have been investigating alternatives namely Emby as it is the only system that seems even close.

I had problems with Emby freezing and having to restart the server but I decided to look deeper over the last few days and discovered that one of the support files had been corrupted so I fixed that and Emby has been running quite nicely ever since.

Once I had it stable I discovered that thinks like editing the sort title, to group movies as I do not really like using "collections," is much much easier and quicker in Emby. Most other "normal" operations are also easier although usually different.

Emby seems, I repeat seems, to put less of a load on the server but I cannot be totally sure as my testing has not been long enough, yet.

I will not burden everyone with a lot of detail BUT, after my short test I "think" that, for me, Emby may well be a viable alternative to Plex.

I have tested the Roku app and the Fire app and the Windows app. The Fire and Windows are better than the current offerings for Plex and the Roku app is pretty good as well. For me and my needs Emby does everything Plex does about as well and it does some things that Plex does not do at all, can you say "AudioBook support!!"

For those angry or unhappy with Plex Emby looks to be a viable alternative.

In helping my brother I have been trying to reset his password, but the email does not arrive. I have tried several times on 2 computers and my iphone. I just bought him a lifetime PLEX Pass for his account. I've emailed plexpass@plex.tv for assistance but they seem to only work during business hours. We tried for hours Friday night, waited until Saturday morning to see if the block timed out and still can't sign on Saturday morning.
Could anyone assist or do we wait and hope the account is unlocked on Monday?

Can't connect to Plex Media Server (PMS) after updating to latest version of PMS (1.8.4)

Hi

I have not been able to connect to my Plex Media Server (PMS) for the last day. New things I have done recently are (in this order):

(a) Added a HDHomeRun Connect to the local network and installed Plex DVR and LiveTV. This seemed to work ok.
(b) Upgraded my QNAP TS-453 Pro to the latest OS version - 4.3.3.0299 (Build 20170901)
(c) Upgraded my PMS for the QNAP TS-453 Pro to the latest version. The filename was PlexMediaServer_1.8.4.4249-3497d6779_x86_64.qpkg. This seemed to work initially

I have tried everything on this page (https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/204604227), including restarting my router and NAS, stopping and starting the PMS, re-installing the PMS, deleting and then reinstalling the PMS, and I have had no luck!!

I am a Plex Pass subscriber and ordinarily love Plex but this is really frustrating me! Whenever I log into the PMS via the web, it shows my PMS as being "Unavailable" with a red triangle that has an exclamation mark inside of it.

Please help!

What the hell happened to the Plex Ui on the Fire stick?
